i lost my dad after seeing him in pain for almost 5 years because of terminal cancer. Even when i kissed him goodbye, he was smiling through the pain. He is the strongest person i've ever met in my life and i couldn't be more proud of him. I miss him so much and it hurts that he will never see the person i'll become. I would give everything just to hold him one more time. I love you dad, you deserve to be in peace.

Ed, I know you’ll never see this, but your song speaks volumes about the son that you were and the man that you are. I just had my first baby, a baby boy, and I can tell you that just being the type person to write this shows that you were a son worth being proud of, and I bet your mom was very proud of you and its clear that she loved you very much. I know it hurts beyond belief, and that that pain never really goes away, but I hope that you’ve been able to find comfort.

I lost my mom weeks ago. It is so sudden since she's so well back in earlier week of December 2021. Still can't believe that she is gone forever. Other songs that helped me, that may help you is Memoeries/Maroon 5, Sissy's Song/Alan Jackson and Go Rest High On That Mountain/Vince Gill and How Great Thou Art/Carrie Underwood. This guy is lyrically stable,he makes videos in my mind for every single song I know from him.The struggles I go through and the number of times I play his songs so that I can always sing along is unbelievable. Particularly this one,every time it plays I always look at my 4 yr old daughter who doesn't understand the song but wants to do what am doing so we just listen."Angel in the shape of my mom" this phrase makes me feel like am taking care of my mom in the name of a daughter.....it's just wonderful 😊

I’ve lost many family members recently. My aunt, my great grandmother, my uncle, and even more. We have a wall in our house with pictures of them dedicated to the ones we’ve lost. My grandfather has been really upset lately. Both of his parents are gone, and he lost his mom on Valentine’s Day a few years ago. He then lost his daughter a year later to a seizure on Thanksgiving Day. I was just sitting in the living room reading and I heard my grandfather listening to this song, and I just went over and gave him a hug.

When I was 2 a fire burnt down my home. I was out with my nan but my family was inside. 6 years later my nan died of cancer and I had no one. The only person I felt was my boyfriend Ben. He asked his mum if she could adopt me but she said no. Instead she asked her friend and now I am getting married to him in 4 months and I'm pregnant with a boy and girl twins. A special person you hold dearly to you will soon leave you…God watches with that person your grieving he looks at them and says you made them strong once now you make them weak only to make them stronger for you and for themselves. Don’t stop fighting everyday just because you lost them..fight for them. I lost my mom to covid and lupus. I blamed my self because she got lupus when I was born but trust me she made me strong. I lost her in December 14, 2021 and I do not want her to come back because she is no longer in any pain. Trust me sometimes God does what’s right even when u can’t see it…even when your mad you soon realize he relived them of their pain and suffering but they will always love you and you will always love them no matter what. My mom is everything to me and my siblings. I am the youngest of 12. My mom is almost 45 years older than me but she has always been there for all of us. She is really sick right now and I honestly don't think I can get through it if she dies. I cry just thinking about it.

Tell her everyday that you love her, always be there for her. I lost my mom just under a month ago to cancer, with just a months notice beforehand that she had cancer. She died with me holding her hand as I told her just how I loved her and how much she meant to me sobbing all the while trying to stop the onslaught of tears from coming on. I'm only 23 so I always assumed and took for granted the thought that if my mom was to pass away it wouldn't be until she was much much older and that I would have more time to comprehend what would happen. It has certainly taught me a lesson of how your "I love you" that you tell someone could be very well be your last. Always be quick to love and never hold grudges, life truly is to short for grudges. And ALWAYS constantly tell and show your loved ones that you love them, no matter how you feel about it. One day you may wish that you let them know every hour of every day. I know that I have. Every day is precious, don't waste them. God bless.

Listening to this as I grieve the loss of my maternal grandma 4 days ago. She really was an angel in the shape of a mum: my mom’s mum. The closest person I’ve ever lost so it’s all very new to me. Love my grandma so much it hurts but this song plus reading everyone going through similar losses in the comments somehow comforts me.

My grandma passed in May. We were all there to watch her last breath. She was a mom to me, as my mom had some hard times during my upbringing. She was full of God and powers I can't explain. I did all of this. Cleaning her old stuff, going through it all, rearranging as people took some things. I miss her every day and this song always squeezes a tear from me.

Yeah...I believe that my mom is now my guardian angel and still keeps me and my big brother safe. Thinking of it puts my mind at ease when I’m stress or upset about something.

My mum died 2 days ago from cancer. I still don't want to believe it. It was tough to see her in so much pain and I miss her so much but I'm so glad that she's no longer in pain. I understand you perfectly, my mom passed away on december 24th 2018. It's painful that they leave, we will forever miss them, but now they are resting in peace at last, without pain or suffering, after a tough every day battle. They will forever stay in our hearts and be with us wherever we go.

We played this at my beautiful mom's funeral last Friday im glad I knew she was proud of me before she passed every word describes her to a T, love you always mom

If Ed Sheeran read this comment, Tho it's impossible 😅. I'm really thankful that you wrote this song. I got the courage that I need to tell my Mom that I really love her and appreciate all her efforts and kindness that she gave us. She is a hero of our life. The first time that I heard this song is when my nan died last winter, even though the song has been out so much longer than that. But my nan was more of a mother to me than my mother was or ever could be. Sop the lyric that says, "You were an angel in the shade of Mom" really got to me. It still gets me. I remember I was driving when I heard it the first time and I actually had to pull over because I was crying so much. It was just so weird hearing that song for the first time just days of my nan passing. I loved Ed Seerean and thought I was after hearing all his songs. Anyways, this is a nice song and if I were to have written a song for my grandmother after she passed nothing would have fit better than this song.....from the day old team cup and pouring the old ginger beer (ginger ale, from where Im from) down the sink.....she was an angel in the shape of my mom, she would be there holding me up...... miss you Nan, so so so much. A heart that has been broke is a heart thats been loved. I am the person I am because of her She taught me to love and care for others and to be the Mom I am today because I would not have learned it from my mom

My mum passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning, I remembered this song from when she was in a coma two years ago and we didn’t think she was going to make it. She got given a second chance and she is not suffering like she was. I am 16 and she will never see me pas my a levelse, if I go to uni, my wedding or her grandchildren. I haven’t spoken to anyone and I’ve kept to myself I’m scared right now and I feel numb but I know she is in a better place. I love you mummy, I hope one day I will make you proud. 💛💛

You have already made your mom proud. It is evident in the way you just spoke of her. Please talk with someone about your pain. It may sound trite, but time helps us heal. I lost my sister 4 years ago, and took my nephew in. I know she is so proud of Charlie:he is now a Marine. I know that my life was better for having him live here. I think we helped each other heal. I will say a prayer for you. Your mom is already in Heaven, so the prayer and good thoughts are just for you.

Today i faced my first Mothers Day without my Mom. I always knew it was going to be hard but, the word hard doesnt deacribe the hollow empty feeling that i felt wakeing up to this Mothers Day. 9 months ago i lost not only my Mom, but also my Best Friend, my Confidant, Advisor, and my partner in crime on playing jokes on people. In other words i lost the other half of me, i cried so hard today for the first time since her funeral, after hearing this song, that like so many other people i felt that it was written just for her, and my heart broke into pieces all over again. I love you Mom and oohh how i miss you so very much. So until i take that walk home to you, i will try as best i can to navigate this shitty life without you in it as best as i can. My mom died in July 2022 from Alzheimer’s. Her bday is in April. Even though I went through last year anniversary of her bday and Mothers Day, it hit me harder this year. My younger sister agrees. It’s so hard. My heart and prayers are with you.

My mum passed away when I was 8. She had breast cancer and for most of my life I have had to watch other friends live their life with their mums and I have always felt so alone. This song makes me realise I’m not. Everyday hug your mother or father so much tighter than the day before because you never know when that last hug will be and I certainly didn’t.

@@skyechurch9303 she will be ok. I have breast cancer n it's been 2 years. I have completed all treatments n ur mum will come out stronger. Advise her to cut down on acidic food (sugar, seafood) n take more alcaline ones (vege, fruits, water). ☺
