What's amazing is that, even after 40 years, the flying effects and flying Reeves performance still stand out as the best in film.

I was born in '82. As a kid, my aunt rented the Superman movie. She teach me how to rewind and play the movie. I watched the film a lot of times. Superman is my favorite superhero. Thanks Richard Donner, Christopher Reeve and all the crew for your work! All of you are amazing!

palekeleke that’s awesome. I was also born in 1997, since I saw this movie on 📀 as a 4-6 years old with documentary of this Superman movie.

The BEST of all the Superman movies. Warmth, charm and a sense of humor. Brilliant casting and music score. Christopher Reece defined the role and those who followed were just pretenders. The special effects did not go overboard, concentrating on the story and character relationships. It is THE gold standard.

I could have listened to Donner and Mankiewicz talk about Superman I & II all day.

I believe a big reason for the success of this film, that wasn't found by films before it, is the fact that everybody involved was a true fan of the source material so they all took what they were doing seriously to show the character and the source material the utmost respect.

The fact that a paralyzed Christopher Reeve was willing to talk about Superman spoke volumes about his courage. After 1995, part of him must have envied the Man Of Steel on the screen.

It wasn't really finished. It was more of an assembly cut made up of rough footage. Conceptually it showed Donner's vision, but it wasn't a complete movie, and the performances were better in the theatrical cut.

Me too. I wonder if they could digitally using CGI. Remove the scenes Lester shot , and finished all of it Donners way. Would have been something to see.

That skinny kid redefined Superman on the big screen, darn near erasing the previous actors of the part and completely dominating the actors who came after him. There is something beyond magical with the original Superman movie and there is something in Chris that no other Superman actor can duplicate. I enjoyed Henry Cavill as the new Supes but Chris will always hold the top spot for me.

Between Henry cavill & Christopher Reeve they played the man of steel but to me personally the late Christopher reeve was by far the better Superman.

The Reeve superman was the absolute paradigm of the character at the time, and has become an icon of hope. The Caville version had a muddled tone between anti-hero and hero. Not my kind of Superman.

I hear what you're saying, but Reeve was right. The role IS bigger than he is--and that's what he meant. And it was that respect for the role that made him such a great Superman.

Damn... lol. why for a few minutes I felt like I was flying around with Superman watching this...

Brandon Routh gets too little credit. He did a wonderful job in the role, but Christopher Reeve embodied the Man of Steel better than any actor before or since.

Richard Donner NEVER should have been disrespected by the producers . Richard Donner's SUPERMAN is STILL the best comic book movie and most respectful to the comic book itself .

Although christopher reeve was not the best actor around, its amazing how well he was in superman. Just perfect as superman, and played the character so well. Casting hit a home run finding reeve to play that role, as i doubt anyone else could of done it so well. Reeve in other roles, was not the best at acting, but when it came to superman, he just played it so well. It was like the perfect glove, ie reeves to play superman. Just a perfect fit.

Still to this day! The best comic book movie 🍿 ever made! Still holds up after all these years!

Me too. Although Cavill is the first to fill the boots that didn't leave me thinking about Chris the entire movie. He wore it well enough that I could wait until the film was over before comparing his carriage of the part to Reeve's, but there is something so unassuming about Chris's smile and those perfect eyes that still give him the edge. His courage after the accident only made him more the spirit/essence of Supes to me, and that much harder to unseat as the true Blue.

This is so re-watchable. From back when making movie magic was a huge deal. Amazing.

Puzo, Donner, Reeve, Hackman, Williams, Brando, Unsworth, SUPERMAN! It’s insane, when you think about it... ❤️

Marc McClure was not only in the Superman blockbusters, but Back to the Future as well.

It's insane to think that after the producer watched The Omen, that director would have been chosen to direct Superman. Doesn't seems logical but boy do these types of decisions work out..

When I watched this film I was 13..and I was mezmorized by it. That theme tune is just great.

Definitely 1 ov thee films why u go to the cinema to capture the magic, others ie: jaws, star wars, raiders ect.

I enjoyed all of the Superman movies. I thought he was the most amazing guy, and he was the handsome star in the world.

He thought the torch was passed on to him and he was a "temporary" custodian. Only if he knew that it was he who lit it in the first place, and still OWNS it.

Donner done some great movies. Special effects by this time, was pretty well done. Prefer it over todays idiotic cgi everything.

I would like to see the original Mario Puzo script turned into one or more movies. CGI is good enough to recreate images of Christopher Reeve , Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, and so on in a realistic looking fashion. Look at Rogue One A Star Wars story it is that good.
