i believe the cloud preview was first. No warning. No lobby posters. No set up . Then there it was. Something majestic was incoming. The credits blazed in your head like a hot iron. Something was flying...and so were we. Then the "S". People knew that "S". Wild applause. Everyone in the theater, the audience, the ushers, the security officers...nothing but applause. That was 1977.

I don’t know about all that, I love Superman: The Movie, but I wouldn’t call it “great cinema”. I wouldn’t even rank it top 100. You can love something, and realize it’s not a great film.

Without question. In my all time top 10 list.

Superman managed to capture timeless movie magic lightning in a bottle like star wars did previous year and many other movies from the mid to late 1970s golden era. I don't know what vitamins the movie makers were having in in the mid to late 1970s, but despite their many documented problems and struggles in making these films everybody involved from the producers, Directors, casting directors, film crews to the actors and actresses were at the absolute top of their game making truly timeless art that probably will never ever be matched again. The movies they made in this era revolutionised how movies are made and watched. Superman was a supeb movie but one of many brilliant movies made in this mini golden era movie making. They had seriously talented human beings from all over the world back then coming up with great art like this people will be in awe of 200 years and beyond from now people as we know it are still around and like the movies like people appreciate great paintings or sculpture thoughout the ages. I think the movies they made in the mid to late 1970s will be long appreciated by people hundreds of years from now. Yes these brilliant movies from that era are that good.

Before the internet the only way to see coming attractions was going to the movies. I remember seeing a couple of movies in 1978 and staying again because they ran this preview for SUPERMAN.

There was a show on the Sci-Fi Channel in the late 90s called Trailer Park specializing in classic trailers, and I happened to catch their superhero-themed episode. I was a college freshman who hadn't seen Superman in years and that trailer gave me chills. It *still* kills me that it hasn't been put on disc.

I don't care what people say. Christopher Reeve will always be Superman to me. Same goes for Margot Kidder as Lois Lane. They had excellent chemistry and worked well together.

3:58 was by far the best! Still holds up today. When I have time I will edit another version with HD footage.

The second trailer is the first one I saw. I didn’t realize until I saw the movie that the music was the awesome theme song!

From a time when trailers weren't that exciting, to the modern era where the whole movie is in the trailers. When can we get the right balance? Even the trailer for _Superman II_ lacked the key line for its trailer: "This is going to be good!"

Have you seen those scenes from the planet Krypton?? Am I the only one who realizes that they look INFINITELY BETTER in ANALOG than in the digital versions?

I honestly think the second trailer shown in this compilation is the best one of them all.

When everyone heard that they were making a motion picture based on Superman they thought at that time it was a pretty far fetched idea. However, when they were able to secure Marlon Brando & Gene Hackman 2 of the biggest stars in cinema at the time, it instantly gave the project credibility.

I wish I could find the audio clip of the outtake of the same narrator from these trailers, where he mocks the biblical level hype of the trailer script. It goes something like “Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Mozart are all shit, compared to the talent of Richard Donner, Mario Puzo, Marlin Brando, Ilya Salkind, Alexander Salkind, Mrs. Salkind, and Christopher Reeve! JESUs Christ makes his return to Earth in SUPERMAN! The Movie!”
