I can imagine LL having the same deal with his office as Michael Jackson had at the netherland ranch. There was a self serve area with 10 cooled snickers, mars etc bars and whenever someone took one, a servant had to replace it from the fridge. @@JormundFenris Technically my butt. There's a fair margin between wielding absolute power and abusing absolute power. The US military, could, within a few minutes, probably level Washington with the ground and install a military junta. But they won't. - Does this potential for absolute rule make the military a despot? The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, loves us. And for some of us, we love them back. But love without choice is as meaningless as lust without intimacy. Thus, while God (in the aspect of the holy trinity) could have made us mindless clay automatons who can only sing his praises, he did not, he gave us autonamy, free will and choice. If we choose to do good. That is on us. If we choose to do evil. That is also on us. Thus, Jesus (nor the other two aspects of the trinity) is not a despot. For the record, I'm not really religious. Because bible thumping boomer mammon worshippers frighten me with their hypocricy.
I love the interaction from All-Star Superman where Lex tells Clark Kent how much he likes and respects him. Libra assures Luthor that his efforts will be well- rewarded; when Earth is conquered and the spoils are divided, he's first in line with Supergirl. "Small town kid in the big city, pissing off powerful people and doing what he thinks is right and damn what everyone else says" applies just as much to Superman (he's SUPERMAN. He pissed off Solaris and Darkseid). Luthor's a kind of tragic character in that yeah, his ego, competitive nature, drive and genius made him what he is but they're also what makes him a VILLAIN. Without those qualities, or even them being a little toned down, he could've seen thru a disguise that is basically "wear glasses and slouch", made pals with Superman and lended his genius as a member of the Justice League. But he CAN'T, so that potential as a hero is never reached.

@@jarrettadams4102 Superman embodies everything Lex wants to be and everything he could be. That's why Lex hates him specifically. Even though there are other heroes who also embody most of those traits like most Green Lanterns, both The Flashes, Stargirl, Pat Dugan (operator of STRIPE, formerly Stripesy and the Star Spangled Kid) and Uncle Sam (as a literal manifestation of the American spirit, Uncle Sam _literally_ embodies "the American way" which is not a claim Superman can make) . Also far as I know, it's that very hate that's basically the one thing that's stopping him from being that hero he aspires to be.

I liked Superman's reaction in the One Year Later arc when he found out that during the entire year he was gone, Lex spent the whole time drawing up more plans to kill him for when he returned instead of doing literally any of the good he said Superman being around prevents him from doing. Money quote: "Where's that cure for cancer, Lex?"
@monitorlizardkid8253
10 ай бұрын
So whatever, I'm just going to this out here, If you want to see what lex might be like without his superman obsession, look up Shere Khan from the Disney series "talespin" "I desire only two things, money and power, unpresentable employees provide me with neither" basically he's a ruthless but honest(brutally honest?) corporate multimillionaire who enjoys driving small family run companies out of business, but treats his own employees quite well. He also has a private army, up to and including battleships, to deal with air pirates.
One of the best parts is Superman breaking the action figure/statue, and then it somehow fixes itself and re-materializes on Luther’s desk. So funny
If Luther really wants people to look at him like Superman, all he has to do is help people. That'll do wonders for his reputation. No smarmy gimmicks, no ulterior motives. Just help people. I'm sure they'll hate him at first, but if he uses his wealth to help people rather than to become more powerful, he'll be seen just like Superman. I mean, if that's his motive, it shouldn't take a genius to know that.
@TetsuDeinonychus

Solid JJ does a pretty solid Clancy Brown Lex Luthor. One thing I love about Lex Luthor is how he represents the perfect anthetisis to everything about Superman, whereas Superman is hopeful, optimistic and humble, Lex is cynical, pragmatic and egotistical while still being able to be menacing and fiercely intelligent. His rivalry with Superman is one of the most interesting in comics and Lex deserves the title of being one of the greatest villains in fiction

Funny as this vid was, I really into the first 30 seconds where it was just talking seriously. Lex's speech where he talks about owning Metropolis from Superman TAS is one of my fav scenes and I like the reference/ recontextualizing this scene to be a conversation rather than monologue... and then flawlessly going into the actual bit
I love how sirectly after Superman destroys the toy Lex throws at him, it's just still there on Lex's desk in the next scene and even though it's probably just because that was the one frame they had for that, it's just funny to think that of all the rich guy things to have, he just has a limitless dispenser of that one toy
The guy even offered to appear in his podcast, he is such a champ

Dude, I'm pretty sure you worry far too much about your writing, so let me say, this was excellent. Iconic versions of the characters that you haven't touched before (I think) absolutely true to how they were written, didn't resort to one being a total dick (which *is* funny, but this was a different angle) the tiny bit of fluid animation fitted brilliantly. I'm sure some will say "have character summarise entire motivation to other character and be called out on it" you do all the time, but that's your *style* and you both nail the characters, and have dozens (including versions of the same characters) to work with
