Gunn already said this is not a comedy movie, obviously Superman will have his classic humour but he won't be a comedic character. The movie will show us how evilness and terror is increasing in the world, people have lost hope,(simply the boys universe) Superman emerges as a symbol of hope for those innocent people. This is literally the best set-up for a superman movie

Superman is my favorite superhero. I can talk about Superman and what makes him a great character (even if people think he is boring character because he is so strong and has no flaws). Man of Steel is my favorite Superman movie (and movie in general) and even if I think Henry Cavill is the best Superman for me, I have to admit, I'm kinda hyped to see what Gunn will bring with his version of Superman.

If this is his suit .....then I love it! it's time to get back to the classic look for Superman. And DC characters Some people may think it looks silly but it's not silly . DC characters have always had a old school look to them when people constantly try and change it and make it "modern " it doesn't always work . DC looking like there 70s-90's counter parts in film is the way to go gunn gets it .

@@thewatcher9500 Sure! I think the MCU is the perfect example. They modernised the way their heroes looked and I think that sold the quality of the franchise. I think the older designs looked cheap and corny, which was appropriate for the time but now we are in a different time. I think it's important to make it accessible to modern audiences and I think making these heroes look like how they did in the 70s may not allow modern audiences to find these characters cool or even taking them seriously. As someone who is on the outskirts of the DC fandom, as I have never read a comic, what got me into the genre was the modernisation of these characters. Turning them from cheesy heroes to badass and cool heroes. I think it would be taking a step back if we changed their designs back to how they used to be.

G'day it's Steven from down under again I'm a big fan of Mr.Christopher Reeve's Superman, I grew up loving his version and the traditional suit, though I was never a huge fan of the yellow S emblem on his cape. This fan artwork is bloody cool and looks like a modernised version of Mr.Reeve's suit, however there is no need to change the chest emblem from an S to a C, which appears to be the case now, the Superman emblem is iconic and is no longer instantly recognisable, this is a major issue in my opinion. Up, up and away we go...where Gunn is taking us is still a concern but we're forced to give him the benefit of the doubt regardless of his chequered history and dubious actions.

James could use the man of steel suit with no trunks.

Pierce was very good in particular on The Wire, so I believe he would do a good job as Perry White. And I do agree that Hoechlin's suit, even now, looks like it has a bit of padding. I'm just glad that Hoechlin's suit no longer has the straps that his costume had on Supergirl.

I'm with your take. I prefer no trunks with red belt but if it looks as good as the first concept art, i don't see why not? Maybe with a smaller belt perhaps. Definitely none of that diaper designs or boxer-cut trunks.

If they go the material and color of the kingdom come suit from Crisis i think the trunks could work very well. For whatever reason, it all just fits so well on Brandon's suit. And to me it looks simple and professional at the same time (plus i like the texture is a bunch of tiny superman symbols) Also i should add for Tyler's Superman & Lois suits they actually removed more padding with each season

To me, the point of character design is to make the core concept work. If I have the option of keeping the red trunks and they look good, how they do in the first image, then I choose that every time over the safer option of ridding of them. He’s Superman. To me, that’s the test. If you can’t convince me to take you seriously when you wear the trunks, you aren’t Superman to me. Christopher Reeves pulled it off. Every other Superman should be able to as well. He’s the one character who I’m adamant about it with, even if only for the screen test. He has to make you believe in the unlikely, take serious the optimistic in an environment opposed. If you can’t put him in those trunks and when I look at him convince me to go “Holy shit, that’s Superman,” IMO, don’t bother. If he ends up not having them, fine. But that’s just my philosophy.

I hope Clark isn’t timid. He’s a mild mannered reporter.

@OurMovieNews ... It just don't feel like Superman without the Trunks. For over 75 yrs the man wore Trunks, it's an odd look without them & unnatural. I was born in 81", so the Christopher Reeve movies were all i watched growing up, i was and still am attached at the heart to them Movies. The Comics i read growing up all had Trunks. To me it feels as if you changed the Hulk from Green to another Color, it won't look like the Hulk. Way to much BLUE, it takes away from the Playfulness, Bright, hopeful, kiddish look Superman has. He's Recognizable to the world with the Trunk, without them the only way to know is to look at his chest & see the "S".

I liked the first image you showed. As for the trunks, I'll admit I'm of two minds. As with so many I was first introduced to Superman as a young age through various cartoons and comics and the trunks were always there so I never questioned it. When they were removed by the New 52 and 'Man of Steel' it took a little getting used to but I did, especially when we got animated versions of that style. But now the trunks are back in comics. As for live action, I think the trunks would work because of how silly they're supposed to seem. Siegel and Shuster were inspired by the outfits that carnival strongmen would wear. In fact one comic actually has a young Clark be given the advise by a circus strongman who wore trunks outside a leotard, which Clark commented on how silly it looked, that a ridiculous costume would help disarm people's reaction to his strength and put them at ease.

That thumbnail looks like Hayden Christensen as Superman.

I am team trunks all day. It represents the classic superhero which can work with the Kansas farm boy persona. And from what I gathered from the films log line. It seems this movie is a return to form of sorts, or a commentary on modern superhero’s.

Let's hope for the best.

I’m good with or without the trunks on the suit, I feel like we’ve had plenty of examples for both sides working and I’m sure it could happen again for either one. No trunks might be a safer bet for modern audiences but I feel like the trunks feel cheesy and unapologetic like Superman himself though I also feel like it can depend on what kind of suit this will be, like if it’s more homemade looking like Martha Kent made it for him then again I think either option could work but if they went with something more like Kryptonian battle armor like the DCEU suit then I’m not sure if the trunks would work with that maybe unless it’s something like some edits I’ve seen out there of making the area the trunks would go red to kind of imitate the trunks I guess, but if it would be anything like some other edits I’ve seen of just putting the trunks on the DCEU suit then I don’t think that would work though mainly since they might not go with something very similar to the DCEU that’s not to say a Kryptonian armor suit with the trunks couldn’t work cause I’ve always really liked Fortnite’s design for Superman and that was basically just the New 52 suit which was armor from Krypton with the classic trunks

As someone who's on team no trunks, the 21concepts concept art looks absolutely phenomenal. Christopher Reeve looked amazing back in 1978. I think the problem most people with having trunks is that Cavill's suit is too alien, hence why the red doesnt mix well with his suit, and people have grown to like its trunkless design. The tone of blue and the somewhat dark red cape do the job pretty well, combined with the unique belt design and crest from snyder, very alien and pleasing, it looks like an alien S. The concept art of the legacy suit has a touch of homemade but not quite thanks to the fabric, its like an inbetween of the MOS chainmail pattern and homemade fabric. I REALLY hope the suit looks like the concept art.

Literally every live action suit with trunks looks better than the ones without….

Man, I have nothing against this new Superman. But saying that this is the best Superman suit it's a spit in the face of what you were saying before about Zack's Superman. You need to check your mood changes. I did watch Superman from 2006... compared to Cavill's suit, posture and so on that movie flops hard, 1 or 3 cool scenes... that's it. So far Man of Steel is the best Superman we had like it or not.

Loved Wendell Pierce in The Wire. Looking forward to seeing him as Perry. As far as the trunks debate, while I prefer no trunks, i'd accept trunks if they're done well.

Imo, it would make more sense to portray Clarke Kent as a version of Kal-El who has to be very careful living on a planet essentially made of egg shells.

I'll be honest when Henry Cavill was so rudely dropped by DC, I wasn't very optimistic about this project. However, the casting has been really good and Wedell Pierce is a fabulous addition to this already great cast. He'll make a fantastic Perry White! Watch the series Jack Ryan to see the type of Perry we could get, he can be very commanding in scenes. A no-nonsense kind of individual.

I think that Superman wearing trunks works because it's a comic book, it's supposed to work that way. But in the modern live action version, it won't work. (for me) I guess they could just borrow that scene on Superman and Lois TV show, where Superman wore a trunks in a memory or flashback scene, like Supes in his early days of being Superman. I don't know if this is possible, but fans could have an option on DVD version if they want to watch the film Superman, if he has trunks or no trunks.

5:35 I appreciate your stance on no trunks, but recently I think characters like Thor and Spider-Man are going back to wearing more comic accurate suits. They brought back the red waist for Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield Spider-Man and Thor in one moment of Love and Thunder he wore his classic comic book attire. TMNT in their recent movie Mutant Mayhem also had them dawn their multicolor knee and elbow pads and initial belt buckles like from the 80s animated series. The point I'm making is that comic book movies, not all, are slowly beginning to embrace or vaguely go back to comic accurate attires. Some Marvel and DC movies as of late, have been abanonimg their 2010s realism mentality in favor of just having funnier movies with people wearing brighter colors and corny action. Again, not all projects have been that way. I'm pro trunks and I know that there are others who really do want to see Superman wear trunks again.

Just 2 days ago I thought to myself Him As Perry White, then to hear this news is something else......And as well YOU NEVER SEEN HIM IN ANYTHING?😱 This Man is ONE of THEE BEST Actors and I mean THEE BEST out there. And he has been in SOOOOOOOO MANY ROLES within Movies and Television shows.

As long as they get the cape length right, I'm happy. Cavill's cape was way too long. It dragged on the floor and made him look short. As for the trunks I'm okay with them. As long as the colors are right.

I personally don't care if they go with trucks or no trucks as long as whichever they choose it looks good and makes sense for the story. But that first image with thee trunks is a fire picture and would be perfect if the suit looks close to it.

Will this be a blockbuster??......only time will tell

I'm a big fan of Christopher Reeves Superman, but I like the Man of Steel suit better, it kinda of sucks we'll never get a sequel to Man of Steel, which it was an awesome Superman movie. So yeah, no outside underwear looks way better In my opinion DC disrespect the character way to much, in favor of promoting lesser value characters they have, including the Bat. Superman is a classic, a childhood favorite and for more that I'd love to watch more movies about the character, I'd rather they stop using the character at all, if it is to make him a schmuck to promote their new bs characters

I'd take the directors words over some documents. Especially when that 400M could be production & promotion budget combined. The promotion budget tends to be the same as the production budget anyway so that could be what the 400M is referring to. Every film has to make at least 2 and half times its budget to break even so I assume that if the 400M is correct, that is for the total budget of the movie, not just production. Whereas Gunn is saying 400M is not for production.

@@OurMovieNews Even if that is the truth. 200M for marketing is a wild number. From what I know marketing for blockbusters is usually up to 100M$. With 400M as an overall budget the chances for making a profit for WB are really small in my opinion. Two previous Superman movies in the XXI century underperformed so this has to be a masterpiece to bring a casual audience, especially with the fierce opposition during a month.

Remember, this is a movie about the biggest Superhero of all time in a brand new DCU universe that NEEDS to be a big success to help the momentum of future projects. If you don't fully commit to your new idea then are you really giving the DCU the best chance it can have?

If James Gunn is casting the Kent's I hope Martha will be Neve Campbell aka my favorite actress. Neve would definitely nail that role. But that's only if Gunn is casting the Kent's.

Yes, I do. If Gunn is looking for a superhero universe, he has to establish the characters first no matter how many movies it takes but still maintaining the consistency, unlike the fourth movie of Thor which, to be honest did not felt needed for his character and all the growth he has been through in the past movies. His character growth was tremendous in the third films and joining a guardian was a satisfactory conclusion to his story arc. So knowing the limits to how much a character needs a story is also I believe makes an important factor to how much impact he has on the future of his/her respective universe.@@OurMovieNews

Pa Kent telling young Clark in Hack Snyder's version that perhaps he should allow people to die just to keep his secret was bullshit. Apparently the one that I love the most mixed AI and art together but I believe the other suits are completely fan made

For me, without the red trunk it just usually isn't Superman. Any other superhero I agree with you (being one of some age, maybe it's generational), but Superman is different: iconic, classical. etc. Although--of the newer designs, even more than the no trunks look, what really bugs is that silly collar on the most of the new suits. Please get rid of THAT, definitely NOT Superman.

Still not a fan of the red trunks for a modern cinematic Superman. Just looks corny. I think the way around this is to use some red accents in the waist and groin area for a callback to the classic trunks but without actual trunks

Henry Cavill is the best Superman and have the best suit EVER. PERIOD. This SIMPerman movie is gonna flop and WBD is gonna pay big time for what they've done to fans.

I thought Watchman wasn't very good but Man of Steel is my favourite movie of all time. Just because you haven't liked Gunn's previous movies, doesn't necessarily mean his Superman movie won't be good for you. I'd give it time. Try and keep an open mind and maybe you will be pleasantly surprised!
