Kubla Khan Took the words outta my mouth. Man today everyone is so spoiled, a new superhero movie comes out every 4 months lol We're so used to cgi now that we're not impressed with anything. We take these huge production scenes for granted But back in the days of miniature, n practical effects it was a treat to see these. The epicness n sense of awe are pretty much gone. Not to knock on the new movies they are actually great for the most part.

"Superman: The Movie" is my favorite Superman movie. Watching these candid scenes is like watching Michaelangelo painting the Sistine chapel. Seeing the finished product was fantastic. I'll never forget the Lois Lane interview with Superman. As he took her flying, the John Williams music with Margot Kidder's asking "Can You Read My Mind?". Or when Superman is wracked with sorrow when Lois Lane is killed in the earthquake. And makes the decision to break the rules by turning back time to save her. Starting with the Salkind's and Richard Donner, they gathered an impeccable crew of dedicated artists. I'll borrow another's quote, "It's a pleasure to watch you work".

Happy seeing on You Tube the three minutes of behind-scene footage starting at 15:25, filmed outside and inside the lobby of the actual New York Daily News building. At 17:23 the two leads walk past me as I'm cleaning the glass door of the lobby's clock, a task director Donner personally assigned me as a background actor that day of shooting. In the film itself I'm also visible behind them across the lobby as they are going out.

Brando knew how much he was worth to the industry and took full advantage of it. I have to admit; it's nice to see an actor screwing hollywood instead of the other way around.

If I was him I'd be ashamed as another director. Anyway the last shot is bittersweet u see Chris & donner up front as they worked so so hard staying behind months to finish the effects plus reeve is a freaking kid yet bulked up 70lbs of muscle mass plus his acting & at his young age u see how mature he is & looks. Than u see lester grossly who did nothing standing in the shot right behind donner. What a horrible insult. While donner was there u did nothing!!! Just a go between for communication than u take the man's job! Ugh and seeing spengler who donner said really was the instigator & rat lol again the son I feel had to stick by daddy & his cousin spengler. How could these jerks come to set & not be impressed. Great footage!! In my opinion, Christopher Reeve was born to play Superman. He had the look, the build, the height, everything!! Reeve's playing of Clark Kent/Superman was perect. Playing Kent as a clumsy, socially awkward reporter was a great idea, while also parting his hair on the opposite side as Superman, making the appearance a little more subtle. Also regarding the "your ass" comment below, I myself always thought that was what Zodd was saying as well, but I think he's saying, "both you and then one day, your heirs!!!", meaning the son of Jorel. Awesome footage here!!

But the movies got derailed after Donner was let go. Originally he thought the series could have spawned 6 sequels. To.me this is the best version of Superman ever. Damn, I still love that John Williams composed musical score. His music helped many a good film be a great film. Notable examples include Superman, Star Wars and Indiana Jones. But there are much more.

It's also harder with extras because you are mostly furniture, used when needed and you have no idea what they are shooting and why the hell they shoot it so many times. It's probably easier being more up the ladder because you can tell what is going on and you have more of a say in it and can have a good time.

So weird seeing the villains smiling and laughing after spending my whole life only knowing them from the film. I was skeptical on Henry Cavil's new Superman portrayal, but I must say I do love him as the character now. He captures a dark, confused, conflicted side that I love. But still, Christopher Reeve is and always will be thee Superman.

I took my first high school date to see this film. I'll never forget the experience. I was so shy, I was a freshman going out with a senior and being the young boy that I was I felt I had to act like a man. And so, when we sat in the theater I put my arm around her chair. I kept it my arm in place so long I actually got a cramp. I never told her though. I guess you could say, I too was a Superman. RIP Christopher Reeve. Great great man.

I wish they would go back to wire work, that stuff was more realistic than the CGI that we get now. Can you imagine what we can do today, making a movie similar to this, but different. After this shared universe, I would like to see WB bring back Superman, like this, with a spectacular score like John Williams. They need an actor in the role of Superman and Clark, somebody who can pull off both characters. I would love to see something like this, but in today's world, but using old school tricks like wire work and the stuff that Chris had to do and CGI. The movie would have to come out in 2028 though, on the 50th anniversary of the Superman The Movie or 90th anniversary of the character. I don't know if lightning strikes twice, but to find someone like Christopher Reeve to embody the character, would be an amazing discovery. I'm not talking about copying the STM, but the essence of the film, the verisimilitude of the story and characters, set in our time.
