The government is essentially making a final stand against Zod since as soon as they’re done beating up the soldiers and Secret Service agents, Zod makes the President kneel and abdicate control of America and Earth itself to himself. A bazooka in the White House makes sense.

Yes, I’ve seen this entire movie in theaters about 40 years ago because I remembered when General Zod and his men or woman attacked the White House because I remember the scene when General Zod taken a full automatic assault rifle and then was firing it inside of the White House because decades later when I watched it on a VHS cassette tape, that scene was not included in the video.

Glad I grew up in the 80s..Superman 2 was easily my favourite, Terence as general Zod was perfect..his side kicks were perfect for the role too, I always wondered why the Villians were so well spoken as thet had English accents lol, music at the back ground was creepy and spot on

Yeah, for a 1980 film but there's not enough bass. I demand that this movie get remastered with a soundtrack made entirely with a tuba that's been pitch corrected to have the loudest, lowest, most bowel-shaking notes imaginable, like 10x the strength of the seismic charges from Attack of the Clones.

This scene is pretty goofy, but I LOVE how General Zod starts using a rifle when he gets his hands on one. I think most writers would've opted for him NOT to pick up a human weapon, perhaps to reinforce that god-like quality, or perhaps Zod would think himself above such a thing. But I love this detail of him choosing to try out a human firearm. Not only is it hilarious in a meta sense, but it actually shows a piece of Zod's character. He's curious about this new world, but we've seen that already. No, it shows his affinity for violence, his love for it. He's not the worthy king he sees himself as, but a a bully - or a THUG. He rules purely by violence and has a cruel streak, shown in him using the humans' weapons against them, even when he doesn't need to. Pretty cool, that little moment. It's part of why Zod is so memorable as a villain, even today.

@L Well, you're probably 12 and are impressed with laughable, over the top performances, CGI effects, and chaotic explosions (btw, all too divert attention away from the weak story telling and shit acting).

The Superman 2, Richard Donner cut follows the Original Film script. At the end of the Superman 2 R. Donner cut, Superman turns back the time, the whole movie. This makes the Superman 2 R. Donner cut somewhat a imaginary movie. This scene is from 1977. In 1977 the production of Superman 1 and Superman 2 started. In 1977, Donner recorded large parts of Superman 1 and Superman 2. But due to financial problems, Donner had to stop working on Superman 2. In 1978, the producers only wanted Donner to finish the Superman 1 movie. The Superman producers liked the " Superman 2 time reversal " so much, that they used this in the Superman 1 movie.

I wouldn't say it's the first time. Lest we forget he was military on Krypton before his rebellion. Odds are he had weapons similar to the guns on Earth. He probably was merely curious to how these ones worked compared to that. Even though he looked at this gun for the first time, you could see he was handy with it like it was second nature.

@@Shanethefilmmaker So a super human kills a normal human, using guns, just wondering, if Superman had fired a gun, at them, whether it would have made any difference, probably not, but couldn't he fire super bullets, that could have stunned them, and made them fly at super speed, or would he need a super gun for that?

For a long time, I was curious what Zod meant by that line. "No one who leads so many could possibly kneel so quickly." If I'm not mistaken, that means a leader would at least negotiate and/or plea for the people he's leading, not simply kneel without a word.

Based on from what I read about the military, it's always assumed that in surrender/defeat, the person in charge would either go all out (no retreat, no surrender) or ask for terms for surrender because they have the lives of the men/people that they are protecting in their hands. The President in the Commander of the armed forces in the US so Zod would have known - which says a lot about Zod's background and experience - that, even if he steam rolled into the White House, he would have expected someone to say: "What do you want?" and "If we give up, will you stop harming people?"
