For those of you who don't know, you can pick one up for less than $3,000 with less than 100,000 miles and the builds you can do to them are affordable, make 500hp with for about $2,500 and a tune.

Ahh. When GM made fun affordable cars. I had an sc1 slow as hell but I put a cherry bomb on it and the slow didn't feel Soo bad lol now the redline is awesome. Sad gm cut the fun brands out. Pontiac and Saturn had potential.

I have an 04 Level 3 Coupe. It’s slow with 140hp out of the 2.2l L61. However, put an exhaust on it and it sings to you, like it has its own voice. And despite being a FWD CVT with an open diff and soft suspension, it loves corners. I’ve never experienced understeer in this thing, I’ll never get rid of it.

Just picked one up from a buddy for $160 with 12x,xxx miles. Needs new tires, brakes all the way around, and the clutch bled. (Just replaced it and they couldn't get it to work because they didn't bleed it...) Also has new axles and motor mounts as well.

That's just about the best deal I have ever heard of! Wow!

Had one as a daily awhile back. 2000 USD with 72k miles. Needed a clutch and was cosmetically beat and had a terrible vin history, but was so fun. The sound with an intake is like no other and it holds its own against many cars. Loved the races with subarus, those were the funniest

It certainly isn't the best looking car in the world. But, I do think it has aged well. I think it looks better now than it did when it was new.

Were the leather seats an option on the redline? Mine came with factory recaro seats, I thought all the ion redlines did.

They were running out of interiors by the end of the build period and parts on the final cars varied.

Hey, I got a 2006 cobalt ss/sc with full 2.5 exhaust with headers, gm stage 2 with 3inch pulley, injen cai, powerstop brakes and pads, all zzp motor/trans mounts...would be a good one to review. Close to the Ion, but with more power, less roll.

Not true whatsoever lol, stock redlines make more stock power then the cobalts, redlines are also lighter

My brother still has this car, but it doesn't run. I think his timing chain broke, and we haven't had a chance too fix it yet. Plus he has to do the clutch. They are not too pricey too fix, if you have the time and the tools.

Nice video, I have a 04 redline, this one you reviewed is a Comp Package Redline, and about the clutch mine also slips haha. Seems pretty common for these cars if original.

Tell him to make sure is intercooler pump is working, open the cap up and make sure the flow is swirling if not might need a new one.

Not swirling...but flowing from passenger side to drivers side. Cobalts had same wiring issue.

Just remembered if you want a clutch that can handle the power/torque (and dont want to go stage) buy the clutch they put in saab turbos. They handle a bit more as those cars put out 250 hp and 230ish tq. Youll need the appropriate flywheel as well

​@@OctaneMonkeypretty old comment but yeah they do, the normal ion has an f-25, the red line and the Cobalt SS has an f-35, and the saabs have an f-40 which is a six-speed manual

Bro if had this car for 5 yrs and tell my why I never knew it was supercharged, i was always wondering g how tf was my car beating Camaro and charger rt, 5 yrs later i learn i have the ultimate stock sleeper, sweet definitely a RARE stock sleeper and it's very reliable as many times i was gonna get rid of it, the problem was always a cheap simple fix like a alternator or fuse or water pump, just love the car and shell give you 400000 plus miles I'm at 170000 and she still perrs like a beast

I agree, superchargers are great on a V8, V6, not so much in a 4 cylinder car. I guess it's still better than an NA 4 cylinder and S/C 4 cylinders are somewhat rare

Yeah that's not normal for the clutch... Picked mine up last year for $1800. Currently working on going stg3 with it before spring arrives. These cars are the forgotten step child of the cobalt ss and will surprise a few people on the street.

Actually, they're the forgotten baby daddy of the Cobalt SS, as the supercharged engine that the Cobalt has was put into the redline first.

I dont know if it will fit(should though), but if you have clutch problems get a GMPP clutch. Everyone whole gets a new clutch for the cobalt ss gets the GM performance clutch works great up to 300+hp

what happened to the Recaro Seats? They came factory with Ion Redline.

2004 - 2006 had Recaro seats, 2007 had leather

I was doing a little research and since 2007 was the last year of production and they sold better than expected they didn't have enough recaro interiors so they started swapping in leather.

Check ic pump wiring. Some of the wiring was backwards

Jay Phillips you dont need to check the wiring..just open the heat exchanger fill neck and see if coolant is flowing from passenger side to drivers side.

my friend has one in the color red and i can say he's broken his clutch components twice within the year btw im Mk3_jetta_ from instagram

I have 2 I have a white ion 2 quad coupe and a red ion 3 quad coupe both with the 2.2 and automatic transmission. I can’t drive a manual(I’m not patient enough) but if I could and had the money laying around I’d buy it

0-60 in 5.9. Not 6.1 Per GM. I get sub 6's in my de-tuned stock '06. GM makes a stage 2 and stage 3 for these which get them over STi horses. And Sub 4's.

“Sleeper” ?🤣🤣🤣 If anything these are a huge disappointment, like many other Turbo or SC 4cyl. ‘s It’s just absolutely sad they go to the point of Turbo or SC and come out with #’s like 200-215hp! 🤦‍♂️ … what was the point!?… might as well just built the motor a little better. Seriously… such little performance from something that’s usually a big boost, is frustrating.

It’s not faster if it’s stock. The stock ion Redline and the stock Civic SI is no match. I own a Redline. Raced plenty of SI’s. I know for a fact it’s not faster

I had a 04 redline and now have a 2012 si, redlines quicker stock for stock not by much. Really considering buying a supercharger for my si, I miss the whine!!! :(

Complete bullshit. the 2.4l N/A ion (let alone the supercharged redline) would kill literally any civic si from the same year, no contest. your Honda ain't fast.
