    3 years into the future and Linus is still dropping things in videos. Love the retro content. Just picked up a SNES off of eBay and a few games, missed my SNES from my teenage years and emulators on a PC screen just didn't have that same feel. Would love to see various retro controllers reviewed for feel and input lag. Have both a Hyperkin and 8bitdo SNES wireless and the button feel is so different, kind of like comparing membrane keyboards to mechanicals, spongy vs springy. Both work well, just feel so different. I highly recommend sticking with the 8bitdo if you prefer a closer feel to the original SNES controller.

    Few things. Input lag is because of the converting of analog to digital with the composite cables. CRT's get rid of that input lag. It also looks like ass because the composite video cable is one of the worst things to use to play your retro games. Consider the framemeister and use RGB Scart cables (which the SNES does support). Also $200 for a flash cart? The hell?

    "Input lag is because of the converting of analog to digital with the composite cables. CRT's get rid of that input lag." Composite is analog, that 4 pole 3.5 input he's connecting into is an analog connection, if crt's fixed it why would using the same 'digital composite' cables on a crt not have lag, what you've said doesnt make any sense. The lag is because lcd tv's inherently have some lag from all the image processing and stuff happening behind the scenes, where a crt doesnt, has nothing to do with the leads.

    @@xchronox0 it's probably the 16x9 LCD display causing the input lag. The 8BitDo wireless SNES controllers are apparently renowned for being "lag-free," and it's definitely not the flash cart causing it.

  • @cybernitemusic

    @cybernitemusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    As an owner of the sd2snes it’s totally not the cart. The cart is exactly as if you were using a real cart... The lag comes from both the bluetooth controller (adds a frame or two) and then definitely the TV adds 1-5 frames depending on the settings they’re using.

  • @cybernitemusic

    @cybernitemusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    Matt Baldwin Depends on what tech the controllers use. Newer 8bitdo controllers use 2.4g which are nearly lag free... With the older and much more common Bluetooth controllers you average around 35 to 50 milliseconds (it’s never stable which is also a pain). This vid is from 2 years ago so they would have been using the laggy blue tooth.

    *Far more graphically advanced. Game quality wise I would say it varies a heck lot. Not to mention stuff like buying an incomplete product and having to update it later, or downright pay for the completion of it (DLCs). Much great stuff can be done with new games, but also the opposite, and I gotta say for example platformers are kinda fading away. There are some great ones yes but... it's all about the very same FPS style now in majority. Like, what else gets called a triple A title nowadays? Race games are one thing where they only tend to get better tho (save rare instances).

    Take a look at Cemu, a wii u emulator capable of running breath of the wild (and other games) at 4k 60fps on a high end computer.

    To run at 4k 60fps you would probably need an i7-8700k for that and at least a 1080. I would go as far to say that's high end, relative to me and my 1050ti laptop.

    I love retrogaming and especially the 16-bit 4th generation console era. I was glad to see this video. I've been following the developments of the SD2SNES since maybe as early as 2012 or 2013 but I'm sure it took awhile for it to mature in development and get to market and for Linus to have time in his schedule to fit it into a video. Better late than never sometimes. I was glad to see this video be featured on the channel and I hope Linus does more about these classic game systems. Hopefully he'll do a video about the Turbo Grafx 16 since I always wanted one. I told a friend of mine that I'd pay him $20 for his even if it stopped working. I love the look of the console with the yellow and orange lettering in North America. That's how cool it is.

    I would love more content like this. But not like this... this is just a modern overpriced everdrive that has been out for many years now, for almost every cartridge-based console. But on the context of this.. .might I suggest a comparison between this, a raspberry pi with emulation software and a SNES classic mini? I believe this is pretty much what everyone with a retro-itch wants scratched. You might even include a retron 5 or other non-emulation solution as well :)

    sd2snes is actually a lot more than just an EverDrive, 'cause the SNES has so many damned coprocessor chips. The Super EverDrive cart on it's own won't even run Super Mario Kart or Pilotwings (unless you bought a DSP addon for it). Whereas the sd2snes has a pretty beefy (for a flashcart) FPGA and open-source firmware. Hell, there was someone on GitHub working on SuperFX support at one point, but I don't remember if they got any ROMs working on it or not. Yes, the Raspberry Pi option is available, too. Last I checked, a SNES mini is still going to set you back $120. It's hardware is authentic but if you plan on installing extra games on it then you have to watch out for compatibility issues. (SNES mini does *not* run anything close to a cycle-accurate emulator, and it definitely doesn't support some of the more esoteric coprocessors) If you want to run games that crash or glitch out on inaccurate emulators then you'll either need an sd2snes or a fairly powerful desktop to run higan on.

  • @xeigen2

    @xeigen2

    6 жыл бұрын

    You don't really need higan for anything but some of the rom hacks that use some of the weird hardware quirks. Are there even any games that snes9x can't play properly? It has pretty much perfect emulation in the current version, just not cycle accurate. And it runs on any old potato PC.

    Multicarts exist on the nes not really the snes.Krikzz one is definitely the best quality ones the cheaper ones have been found that they can actually damage your console.This is a everdrive different to a multicart which has a set number of rom.

  • @nickwest932

    @nickwest932

    These are not mutlicarts. They are flash carts. They have cheat support and you can change a great many things in the settings. Multicarts are regulated to what is on the cart and flash carts you can add on the fly. Krikzz and Co. also use quality parts and not Chinese junk, like most multicarts. It is easier on the pins in the SNES.

    You could also use Everdrive. Same concept, of having a game cart with an SD card that you can pack roms in. That one gives you some of the benefits of emulation though, like save states. Very popular among speedrunners who want to run on original hardware, because it's a pain to practice frame precise tricks without save states, and it's shitty to practice them on emulators because the input lag and other factors are slightly different.
