‪@SupercarsChampionship‬

Scott Pye and Co host Elliot Barbour break down what was a Ford cup in Townsville for round 6. Big names had blunders and plenty forgot how to drive. A few notable mentions though for those that remembered.

    Completely agree with your guys take on the format change. I find the majority of the support categories boring and diluted with 2-3 gaps between Supercars action not to mention the boring racing with one dimensional formats. Big changes are required to engage younger audiences once the current generation are gone. Keep up the good content

    My father and I were there as soon as the gates opened and stayed as long as we could, wasn’t necessarily interested in signings, we were happy to sit behind the pits on Fridays to see the little things you don’t normally see happen during the weekend. Attendance at the track had a great atmosphere. One thing we did was have Bastos up to follow the times, and it made it much more enjoyable and took the ease out of working out what was happening

    These wheel nut issues are similar to what FPR had when CoTF was introduced. Through all of 2013 and a lot of 2014 FPR kept cross threading nuts. Makes you wonder if it's an issue with the nut being cold going onto a hot hub or something like that

    Just a thought; maybe an idea bouncing off of the Saturday sprint idea. Supercars have introduced a live pit lane so they should use that to advantage. 20 minute practice in the morning to do a little “shakedown” then into two sprint races. No qualifying starting grid for first sprint is reversed to pit lane. Second race determined by the results of the first race. Points will be more “evenly” spread. Sunday a two or three stopper race. What are your thoughts?

    That's where I disagree, Roland is absolutely right with the diff these cars need more variables to improve the racing. You can talk about format all you want but we had a similar format in Taupo which produced boring races, same at the Bathurst 500. You can talk about format all you want but it is still a qualifying series that occasionally produces decent racing. Why is the Supercars paddock scared of change, they were against the independent rear end back in 2013 and now against a differential cause drivers don't want to deviate from what they know. Having a differential will also make it easier for Supercars team to have competent international drivers in the car and it will improve the racing by having more variables.

  • @apexhuntersunited

    @apexhuntersunited

    Every Motorsport category is a qualifying series. It puts the fastest guys at the front and slowest at the back. A different diff won’t change that. Go Karting has good racing and has a solid axle… No one is opposed to change and certainly not on here. It’s good to have these chats but our opinion is just that spending more time and money developing something which is already the most competitive touring car in the world is a waste when you already have low hanging fruit that’s cheap to fix. No driver thinks it would make an ounce of difference. Change the tyre and make the car tougher if you want to immediately improve the racing without touching format. Definitely love hearing your opinion mate it’s what this is about.

    @@apexhuntersunited I think you hit it in the last point there. The goal should be to make the racing better without driving up costs. You're the last true, old school touring car series in the world, and that should be a huge draw, but the Gen3 racing has been pretty mid most rounds, which sucks because the cars are so awesome and the drivers are world class. Make the cars more reliable to able so they can handle a little argy bargy, don't be so quick to penalize hard racing, and allow for a wider set up window, and the racing should get better without requiring a big investment.

    I think introducing nascar style stages would go along way too spicing up the racing and producing a more random result. Same for having a playoff after a regular season to decide a champion. Historically and race where t8 are at the back has always been a good open race. Some of the lack of willing to have a lunge might come from the threat of a penalty if it goes wrong.

    Cmon guys I totally get the news being things closer together for the broadcast. But you know how hard the teams work behind the scenes between sessions to get the cars turned around and ready for the next session. They need more than 15 minutes…. Plus if anyone has a mistake in a session & crashes their car. There’s no way they’ll be back out the next session.

  • @apexhuntersunited

    We used to run 60/60 formats and teams made it work. Between the sessions is actually not too bad for the teams, most of the work they do is setup related not maintenance. Control what they can do more like nascar do and just worry about the on track show. Also if they can do race runs in practice in long practices then making the sessions shorter would still be less mileage. Sorry mate have to disagree with you on this.

    Scotty, have you considered a urostomy bag for the duration of your podcast? 😛 As regards the three day weekend, I'm a Kiwi and we only get one round a year for the entire nation to attend. So we go for the entire three days - Friday for us is usually for merchandising and wandering. Saturday and Sunday are regarded as more serious motorsport days. Watching from home, I have it on in the background but only watch the parts that interest me ie: quali and race. My opinion: nix Saturday shootouts, make it special; shake up the structure with two short Saturday and one long Sunday race; bring more events to the calendar. I also think more drivers need to get out in other categories between race meetings to boost driving experience and maximise aggressive potential - using sims is not enough, it needs to be real. Just my two cents worth. 🙂

    Top ten at a few big events is cool like the odd street circuit. Places like Sydney motorsport park is pointless cause its not a high risk track. we don't really see big mistakes. Just the different aero balance between the cars and setup philosophy between the teams. We think parity is actually pretty good its just that the nature of some tracks will suit the other manufacturer. As long as its even across the year then it's ok.

    Talking about teams, I think Mostert couldnt be a better mentor for Woody who was awesome for his experience and Mozzy is driving WAU, with his hustle and shaking up that team and making them accountable. An example of a driver shaking up the team. With Payne, I think the opposite, the team and Garth really nurturing him to bring out his best and Reynolds deserves some credit there too last year.

Also the agenda was not relevant anymore as the pod came out weeks after Darwin. Also take the drivers out of their uniform so they are themselves.
