Being from the US, we get to watch NASCAR, indycar, formula 1 and other sports car series. But when we get to see Aussie v8 supercars, it's such a treat. I can't believe how many massive crashes have virtually no injuries. I mean, these guys hit concrete walls at well over 120 mph and the cockpits are barely bent out of shape. It's crazy
@Happymali10
4 жыл бұрын
That's because within the cockpit they have the safety cell, but the rest of the cars (which, I think, are based off a chassis, not a pipe-frame) crumbles to absorb energy, plus the HANS-device the drivers are wearing.

Hit a telegraph pole in the wet at 70 kph (43.5 mph), just off centre the middle of the grille. Car jumped and spun to face the other way by the time it all stopped. Pushing the steering wheel away helped avoid any injury. Another time it was straight up the back of another car at 80kph (50mph). 10 kph more and I got hurt. My gut hit the steering wheel and was bruised for a long time. Other car occupant was ok.

I dread to think about the level of Gs especially in the clear head-ons. Having been watching many forms of motorsport since the 70s (that's the 1970s you cheeky lot!), head-ons have always been one of the accidents I find the scariest. The HANS device inventor should have had a medal to show how grateful everyone involved in the sport - from the drivers, their families, friends and teams, to organisers, medical teams, marshalls and spectators (I'm bound to have forgotten someone, so please mentally fill in the blanks...) - is for saving so many lives. There should be a Nobel Prize equivalent for inventions and innovations which reduce the likelihood of death or serious injury in any walk of life. I'm certainly grateful for all of the safety innovations that have been developed so far, as it makes watching live motorsport less terrifying and yet more exciting than ever.

Go hard or go home, nothing like a Aussie v8.......🤩
I haven't watched much Supercar racing in the last few years because I've not been in Aus. But in watching this compilation, a couple of little things come to mind. 1) In what fucking Bizarro World is there a section of a circuit run off that's shallow sand and totally naked concrete? That is completely unacceptable. And 2) if commentators are speaking in low, somewhat apprehensive tones in the wake of a potentially injurious (or worse) incident, maybe it'd be a smarter move to run the replay without advertising the mildly spicy, overcooked chicken burger from the fucking Colonel.
Finally what we were promised at 2:57! I was starting to think the title was clickbait.

Aerodynamics and pit teams play sooooo much more in nascar than they ever will in supercars. Australian V8 supercars. LONG history, very different to what they used to be when just production cars with a roll bar checked in. I know you can get them on some specialised sports channels in the USA. Usually run from March to October. If you EVER get a chance, watch Bathurst 1000, at Mount Panorama. It's a bloody public road. Both ways... I've driven it. Lots... Gotta cruise around to check for cops first... It is LEGENDARY in Australia

@alexgeier7743
5 жыл бұрын
2 plain and simple reasons. 1. a 5 point harness keeps you pretty solidly in the seat. 2. Adds weight..weight is bad
Just dozens of reasons the get rid of the stupid gravel traps.. It has been proven time and time again that asphalt will allow a car to slow much more than gravel traps, especially at speed when the car tends to 'plane' on top of the sand/gravel instead of dropping in to it. I get that it will remove the penalising aspect of going off track so my thoughts are to add foam boards to create reentry chicanes that must be followed to avoid penalty and use unfixed tyre barriers in situations where the car would need to be slowed due to break failure. Regardless, all of the drivers know to smash down the gears to put the car into a spin.
How much is a penalty for the first clip
I've learnt never to drive a green Ford.
Very scary to watch.... Hope no serious injury to any driver there
2nd video. Penalised doesn't make up a $400,00 write off

The tire barriers don't do much. They need the NASCAR safer barrier.
