Being a Mario nerd here. In regards to Princess Peach I wanted to add, her being a fighter and joining the heroes is also inspiration from the old Mario comics, the 89-90s Mario bros cartoons, the super princess Peach game for the DS, In theory they will probably make her get kidnapped either sometime later in the movie or in the sequel, which also explains why Mario doesn't have the fake Italian accent since the Mario bros are originally from Brooklyn and their original voices were scruffy Brooklyn accents, so Mario having a generic voice is not far fetched. Miyamoto (the Mario creator) is going for source material, from deep cut resources to new, Nintendo got a lot of resources, yes Nintendo is mostly involved in the movie, tho you probably new that 😁 Nerd out.
