You never forget your first time with the piano. For me it was along the line of “huh, there’s the red coin. No enemies? Guess it’s just a filler room. Wonder if I can do anything with the pian- OH GOD NO, WHAT THE HECK😱”

+coodoo17 coming from someone that hasn't grown up with this game, i can agree. when i look at other themes like "Waltz of the Boos" and "Shifty Boo Mansion", they just don't seem to have the same kind of intimidation or atmosphere as this theme. same could be said about similar themes in earlier and modern games and how modern Mario soundtracks have a noticeably different feeling compared to there earlier entries.

When I first played through this game, I had a very low horror tolerance, and this level was outside my limit, so my dad handled it. He and I beat the game together. Now, my horror tolerance is high, and this is now one of my top few favorite levels in the game, one of the reasons being because it brings back memories of my dad.

The first time that piano snapped at me, I jumped!

I don’t think Nintendo will ever make a level so creepy in a Mario game again, which really sucks... The thing that adds to this level are all of the supposed secrets like the ghoul medal or the secret laugh, just adds mystery and eeriness to the whole thing

The most interesting thing about this level for me is that the main instrument of this song, as well as that sound effect that plays when you drain the castle's moat and solve other puzzles, are both samples from the SC88 soundboard or something, wich some people say is haunted, for reasons that I don't know. Also ghoul medal is just a play on words with gold medal. That's it, there's no scrapped collectible or anything.

+Oni - Sama I was 5 when I first played it. The outside already scared me so much. It took quite some time to get over the piano. Without a doubt the most scary a Mario game ever got. (But the blackout in Luigi's Mansion also really scared me back then...)

This song sounds like something that would be heard at a ritual of some type. I think it might be the repeating drums mixed in with the chanting, spooky

This is basically what people think of SM64 nowadays.

dude. the 90's had some of the BEST games, yeah they are far more advanced in this century but MAN were these earlier games RICH, original.

This theme, and that god dam piano is why i never go into that freaking course again after i beat it. If so i mute the tv.

i like how it starts off as eerie and ominous and then it slowly dissolves into madness, almost as if you’re going insane…

The piano never actually scared me all that much. I guess it's because I discovered it before dark; I'm sure I'd have a heart attack even now going into that room and seeing that piano if I were in the dark by myself! XD But it's mostly the music that creeped me out; I don't even know why I came to this video!

Yeah, probably. When I was little, I just pretended the moaning sound effects were air conditioners or something, because that's what my grandparent's basement air conditioner kinda sounded like at the time... maybe that's why I never slept down there. I guess the horribly bad sound compression in the song makes it sound that way.

@@SpiceDawgCanimation Me neither. My poor child mind was already scarred from playing Quake and seeing Chthon get up roaring from the lava at the end of episode 1. That one made me cry, I remember. (I never had an N64, my house was all PC. Consoles are for rich kids exclusively in Brazil. My cousin had it, and I got to explore the Haunt at 9yo or so.)

Levels: 1: Go on a Ghost Hunt 2: Ride Big Boo’s Merry Go Round 3: Secret of the Haunted Books 4: Seek the 8 red coins 5: Big Boo’s Balcony 6: Eye to Eye in the secret room

While, I never found this level all that scary, there was an element of this level that caused me to have a nightmare. Those damn books.

As soon as I clicked on this video, I knew the top comment would be about the Mad Piano.

I played when I was kid and the piano scared me, but not to much, as I remember. The music never stressed me out, but to my older brother, it was a nightmare that theme and I never understood why until now. I wasn't scared because it was an "adequate" theme for me. Now I heard it and I admit that is a little spooky.
