I've found that as a warm air mass on the ground drifts prior to "popping off" your likely to have better luck finding the lift or catching the thermal on a tree line. The warm air drifts on the hot ground, reached the trees then has nowhere to go but up. Nice save. I had a similar extremely low save in Governador Valadares BR. I was setting up to land, maybe 30 -40 feet up when a vulture launched off a fence post that was maybe 5' high. The bird went directly into a column of lifting air. I had just enough elevation to follow the bird, make a turn burying the left break of my old Octane to below my seat and i was in lift all the way around. Took that thermal to cloud base, and flew another 40k for a total of about 75k. The 75k was nothing compared to the incredible and lucky save. It's still at the top of my flying memories. I'm flying a Delta 2 now but man I had some great flights on the original Octane. Flew that wing for almost 8 years.

Shame I couldn't understand your commentary as my German is very poor, but it would have been interesting to hear your thoughts. I had a similar experience a few years back coming into land low over a cow farm intending to land in the next field. It's an amazing feeling when you spend ages slowly gaining height cm by cm in bitty lift and leave your landing field behind : ) very nice. Never say die : )

I use a renschler TEK Vario. You can buy it on spezial request. I have also a video about it.

Armin, vor einem Jahr habe ich schon Dein saugeiles lowsave bestaunt und nun hatte ich selbst das Anfängerglück beim 2. Mal überhaupt an der Winde eine schöne lowsave Erfahrung zu machen. I noticed in Arizona that on some still unstable days you can turn your hand fast 5 cm. above the ground in circles and actually trigger a tiny dust devil. I also read somewhere that because of the coriolis effect doing this in one direction is more effective -anti-clockwise I think- than the other. And also if you are flying with friends you could maybe get them, when they land, to trigger the thermal for you! Thanks nice video.

Im dem Falle bei so vielen Kreisen im Nullschieber zu knapp über Grund hätte es sicher nicht gelangt. Aber wenn es minimal besser zieht, geht das auch mit einem guten EN-A.

Wie hast du da dein Vario eingestellt? Steigen 0.1m/s und sinken -1,5m/s?

Alles direkt, da ich ja auch alles direkt mitbekommen will. Dafür ist der Ton maximal leise, das er ich nicht nervt.

Alter was für ein Flug! Ist es nicht gefährlich wenn du tief so doll drehst? Ich hatte das Gefühl du würdest jeder Zeit abstürzten, vor allem wenn du eine starke Seite des Bartes triffst.
