Very good synopsis Sam! I was hard pressed to decide between the KSL and the Yeti 160E (not apples-to-apples) and I went with the 160E, mostly because I have been a 15 year Yeti owner. My LSL is still a great bike, and I just wanted something different, but if I was on the fence, I’d go with the KSL! BTW, what is your current tire choice? Still Eddy C 2.4?

Thanks John for the kind words in the world of ebikes its getting hard to pick that dream bikes... I run Magic Mary Ultra soft in Gravity casing 29x2.4 front and Magic Marry Soft in Gravity casing back 2.4. i wish Schwalbe made the Eddy in 2.4 for the back.

Hi Sam, how much drag does the Mahle motor give on the SL when motor isn’t engaged? One downside using an eMtb with no power vs a non Ebike is the crank drag associated with turning gears. Ok downhill only but anything else feels…a drag. Still enjoying my 29/29 full fat Kenevo. It’s definitely not just a 27.5 bike as 29 fits the rear with plenty of clearance. Probably what Spesh realised all along. A quick offset bushing later and it’s probably one of the best all mountain eMtb …a 180mm 29/29 bike that climbs like a goat and drops like a buzzard after prey. All you need to do is tinker, what I’ve done for decades with my mountain bikes. That’s what they are designed for ;-) Super vid mate. A good angle for an eMtb for sure. Creative. Enjoy.

Hey Jules thanks for the kind words, ok the SL motor has some drag but it really isn’t much, if I was worried about the drag I would put the range extender on and it ride in 10% power in micro tune and the battery will last all day and take away the drag.

@@SamsBikes thanks Sam…that’s what i enjoy most about Specialized software and motors. Firstly the natural feel (especially with lower acceleration response setting) and ability to make the bike “neutral” in terms of countering gear drag with low support. Likewise even on a 90nm motor with a 700wh battery set to 15-20% support you can go all day unless climbing is technical and steep. Or set a HR threshold and the software dynamically adjusts, although I always set the HR threshold lower as it seems to over egg it a bit. All the best, keep this coming ….must be hard generating such good quality content.

nice work sam. i have a 2021 enduro and love it. I wanted to get more laps in so i picked up the ksl. your precise analysis of the ksl helped me pull the trigger. i'm going to travel to NZ at the end of the year, so i'll be taking the ksl and two range extenders. cheers, mate!

Sam, not sure you are supposed to be using the ebike without the battery. I assume the rigidity of the battery attached to the frame is lost when removed. Any comments on this?

Love my KSL and compleatly agree with the synopsis you gave Sam. I've had a series of Specialized Enduro's and other "Enduro" bikes since my 05 Specialized Enduro. It's been a great rehab tool so I can still keep up with my old racing buddies after an illness that required multiple surguries and took a half decade of riding from me... untill now. I can track my watts and calories as it helps me get stronger. The most recent NFS (in the US) rulings feel like a slap in the face for people trying to manage disabilities and recoveries in a place meant to be "accessible to all." Maybe you can make an episode about the fight for EMTB class 1 access and those that need it.

@@SamsBikes the National forest service deemed that e-bikes are only allowed on motorized designated trails... This means we are relegated to only the same roads and single-track that dirt bikes use. It seems to be more of a suggestion as I know many e-bikers and Forest Rangers that are turning a blind eye but unfortunately many of my local MTB trail associations have taken an ignorant stance along with the forest service. Many local and state parks are starting to follow suite. I'm afraid there isn't enough public education on the capabilities and use of a class 1 E-bike. I now live in Southern California but my old racing buddy from Colorado, now owns and manages a successful trail building company that contracts with the U.S. Forest Service and many cities and counties around the U.S.. The Ironic thing is all his professional trail builders are using E-bikes to build a lot of these mentioned trails. Specialized has a great outreach program that they are involved in to help expand access for the sport. edit: www.fs.usda.gov/visit/e-bikes

Well dont know why the took enduro to a sl class, but enduro should be able to have power to climb. The others kenevo are left behind because most of the riders are looking now for 29er or MX ebikes not fully 27.
