SUPER EASY circle skirt - NO zippers, NO fuss, NO π formula - just EASY 1 hour SKIRT!

Dear Sewing Friends, this is a beginner friendly tutorial for a half circle skirt that you can make in 1 hour! Spring and summer is almost here, so you can make this to wear and enjoy! You will need 2 measurements to get started and some elastic. No zippers, no fuss, no π formula for sewing this SKIRT! Also, don't forget that you can use this to create a dress with a variety of skirts! Happy SEWING!
FABRIC TO USE (don't limit yourself to these suggestions) - cotton, cotton blends, linen blends, rayon, chambray, twill and more! It is best, in my opinion, for your first time to use a stable fabric, so that it is easier for you to work with. Fabrics like silk or satin will look great but are difficult to work with if you have no experience.

Unfortunately that's something I can't change and it's difficult to find a skirt which fit on me. This tutorial showed me how I can draft a skirt for my hourglass body type and the best part is you mentioned how I can draft to create equal lengths. That's what I was looking for so thank you very very much. Now I will be more confident to make a nice skirt 😊

Circular skirt, I would put right sides together, sew a seam then iron the seam, turn the skirt inside out or wrong sides together, sew another seam, you don't have to zigzag the seams or cover them with bias binding (as some would do), or use a surger them (we call a surger an "overlocker". Reading your comment again.... Is your serger threaded correctly - just double check, because I never had any threads unravel... This is odd.

I NEED to try this one it looks much easier than the calculation method I tried b4, and I also like how you said that the top piece will be the waist so I measure how long from there you would want it to be, thanks because another video I watched didn't show this and after drawing the pattern out it was tooooo short for my daughter, but this one looks easier

Ok so I measured my daughter's hip got 31 inches, divided it, got approx 7 3/4, then added inch, 8 3/4 inches. when I measured the length to make the curve I got 12 inches, is that correct?

@@Deoshan1 If you did everything according to the video then it is. If you are unsure - make a sample first and then cut your actual fabric. I am sorry, I cannot assist everyone personally due to the volume of requests.

I'm a new sewer and since you raced through putting the waistband on it took me hours to figure it out. Omg. It goes upside down so top stitching seals the casing before you string the elastic through. You can't see that in the video. You're welcome, newbies!

I always stitch down the elastic at both seams.

Linda, the thank you for becoming a Member! Very easy- just make it longer. Also there is an extra video for Members Only + instruction sheets for this project that will explain how you can also make a 1/4 circle skirt and other degrees of flare. Happy sewing!

Hello there :) Make a pattern first and then measure around it or take it with you to the fabric store.

I do like that you are choosing the hem length to your preference, the shrinkage is a great tip and the skirts are lovely. Please don't take offense, I try to help. However, there is a lot of pressure put on skirt side seams and particularly waist bands with elastic in them, so you will find the half inch or 1.5 cm, is necessary. Your skirts will not take the rough and tumble of wearing and washing, with tiny seam allowances, that is why unlike patchwork and quilting, which have no pressure put onto many of the seams, clothing patterns always have the wider seam allowances.

Kathleen, thank you for your input! Never worry about providing some ideas/input ;) Seam allowance and the width of them - is a debatable question. In my personal preference I always go for a smaller seam allowance, depending on a project of course, sometimes wider. I still wear clothes I made 10-11 years ago with smaller seam allowances and they held up great. But I do see your point! I always take even smaller seam allowance on the necklines and armholes and it comes out cleaner and less bulk, and holds together well. At the end of the day, I don't claim to do everything by the book, just what works for me :) Thank you Kathleen!

Absolutely, Nancy! The only thing - if you have worked with georgette before - go for it, if not - go for more stable fabric, hemming georgette in the round might be a task if you have never done it. Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks so much for the great video! My daughter and I are doing this together. Question: we are up to the part of attaching the waist band to the skirt. But the waist band is about 3 inches too small when I arc it around to match the opening up the skirt. Should I re cut a new bigger waist band? It should roughly be the same size as the skirt waist? I wish I could send you a picture!! Thanks!!

  • @ThoughtfulCreativity

Yes, it should be exactly the size of the waist opening + seam allowance :)

I know it’s an older video but I’d love if you could answer a question. I just started sewing! This is really helpful. If I wanted to have a double elastic waistband would I then just do double the size of the fabric of what the space of one band is? I hope that question makes sense! 😅😬

  • @ThoughtfulCreativity

    @ThoughtfulCreativity

If you need to double the elastic then you will also need to make your skirt waist measurement bigger. If you double the elastic, but leave the waist measurement as is - then no matter what you do the waist won't get bigger.

I LIKE. one question, did you use your exact hip measurement or did you add a few more inches in the fabric? I'm sorry, I speak Spanish, that's why I couldn't understand her so well.
