Super Duty E Locker Swap! (Sterling 10.5 / 10.25)
Today we take out the garbage limited slip differential that came with the one ton axles I installed in my 2010 Toyota Tacoma, and swap it for a factory Ford E Locker from a 2011+ F350.
These E Lockers can be found cheap at junkyards or in my case Facebook marketplace and will work in any Sterling 10.5 or 10.25 axle.

The thick cut gears are made to run on a 3 series carrier so you don't have to replace the carrier when going to lower ratio that would normally use 4 series with a normal gear set.

That's what I was thinking, a thicker ring instead of having high/low ratio carriers.

Yeah Joe Dirt, Canadian style!
Thats sick, i love cheap performance parts lol. Although it looks like an antiwrap bar would be helpful. Looks like you were getting decent axle wrap.

There is a anti wrap there 🤣 But what you can't see is it ripped off the factory crossmember.. Gotta build a solid crossmember for it

@@DirtGarage all those toyota horsetorx twisting shafts and ripping brackets 😆
I have a 2016 F-250 with the E-Locker, works great.
Nice upgrade!
Nice shaft.... a little twist for funzies 😮
Can tell this was a research project, before diving in
Your "new" used locker looks like the previous owner didn't install the pinion correctly and it self clearanced on the carrier. You might want to keep an eye on that

Yeah it had a crush sleeve failure I was told. I'm well aware of that 🤣
About to do the same. What gauge wire and thread size for the cable gland did you use?
I wonder if the solder, heatshrink, connector, seal, wire coating is temperature rated to the gear oil temps

I see in the thumbnail solder was external to diff
How did the pattern turn out ?

Pattern was perfect still. Drives better than it did before, being completely open on the street is nice.

Why are you using red rtv?!?!

@@DirtGarage .... I love your enthusiasm!!!... You might be right!....I wonder if mine looks a lil different because it's a two-wheel truck on a 1-ton rear axle... matched with the zf6... wonder if things are a little different. supposedly the two-wheel drives can tow a lil more.... I'm going to do some investigating, comparing and get back to you on this....
