@@Fizzoid I don't doubt it is better, very much better. However, I do have a couple of issues with this test. Firstly, as you point out, how impartial is GMBN when testing sponsored items against regular ones? Would they risk a sponsor backing out if they gave their product a bad review? Secondly, testing the best on the market against the cheapest on the market is pretty unfair. How about that mega light against one costing a couple of hundred? That's still a chunk of money but less than half the price of the Sixpack and would probably be a more realistic real world comparison. Or how about a review of a few none sponsored lights in the 100-200 quid range? I think there are very few of us who pay out 400+ for a light. Please guys, the Top Gearesque stuff is fun when it comes to cheap used bikes but don't also start poncing around with stuff that the vast majority of us will consider way out of our price range.

@@mainzman7239 The saddest part about this channel is every thing that is shown we can get from ALIEXPRESS for cheaper, including their light. The only thing I cant get are downhill bikes or frames. This is the past in REAL biking where real money is used.

That is actually cheap against the real most advanced bicycle light the Lupine Alpha, this thing is the most powerful and advanced thing you can get. For only 1100€ ~1260$ you get a flooder who is strong as commercial plain headlights. You could reach 800 meters with this 7000 lumens. Their charger alone is 200$

It's a bit to obvious that this video is an ad. There are a lot of cheap lights that work a whole lot better than the cheap light in the video.

I'm not sure this helps much. Obviously the EBay lights are dodgey. The cheap lights I'd want to know about are the branded ones closer to £100 with outputs around 1500 lumens +. £300 is still a lot of money even if it is mid range. Biking is already expensive enough as it is.

Don't be fooled by the test setup to call the £300-light "mid-range" - that's a *TON* of money! There's bike lights for 1000 bucks and more out there ... which would make the £400 light easily classify as a "mid-range" light!

Actually eBay lights aren't dodgy (the model tested might be, but there are many lights which aren't). Stupidly powerful flashlights can be had for very little money. Flashlights being self-contained is a double-edged sword, though: there's only one thing to mount on the bike, but it's not very practical to mount a light with multiple batteries on the bike, so battery life is limited. Still, you could get a Sofirn C8F+helmet mount and 2 Emisar D4s/BLF A6s/Convoy S2+s plus bar mounts and batteries for £100. 2 hours of sustained ~1k lumen flood and easily enough spot performance.

Recently bought a Bontrager ion pro RT for $140 cad, works great at 1300 lumens for about 1.5 hrs only issue is long charging time

This is exactly what’s going wrong with mountain biking, if your not riding a £6k bike with a £500 light on, dripping in Fox kit, you can’t possibly be enjoying yourself. Putting videos out like this, only makes people feel inadequate, I bump into loads of younger riders, having a ton of fun with there mates, but they all say “ I’m having a new whatever, for Xmas/birthday etc” as if they feel they should be riding top end stuff. Stop trying to exclude people! Shame on you

We're not attempting to be exclusive here Steve, we're merely pointing out that a cheap price might not be all it's cracked up to be! Especially in this case where the internet purchased light claims to be as good if not brighter! At no point do we tell or expect everyone to go out there and buy top of the line lights. Run what you brung! It's fine!

Honestly, i think those 400+ (Pound/Euro) Lights are a ripoff. I come from a hunting background and we rely on sturdy, bright and good lights. I've noticed that in the last 2 years those superexpensive lights flooded the market but they are not worth it. A good torchlight is about 100 bucks (the more you pay, the more you get e.g. Bluetooth). Shatterproof and water resistant, good battery life and so an. A suited mount costs about 20-50 and you can get it often as a bundle by the lights-manufacturer. So you are at 150 and have a really good and sturdy light for your bike. The lights tested are good - don't get me wrong. But they are not 400 bucks good compared to the lights in the outdoor/hunting market.

Fair enough DeSade79, we're not clued in on the flashlight area of technology, but in dedicated bike lights we believe this video shows the difference in quality and reliability offered at various price points!

Very true there are a lot of good stealth brands from China like nitecore ,fenix Armytek, Olight to mention a few they all make stuff that's way way better than what's available from outdoor store crap like petzl ( they make some way overpriced crap using very old tech passed off as cutting edge) and bike shops are the same there are good lights but when I can buy something that puts out 5000lm plus ( true tested lumens) that's got a ton of smart tech in it for less than £200 why are bike lights £400 and arnt as well made or have old boast driver electronics in? It's the old mtb tax!

I like Olights, but they don't have good mounts for bikes. I have an H2R that I got the bike mount for, but I just carry it as a backup because it's super floppy. Lezyne and Niterider make good budget lights in my experience. I've got 1500 lumens on the bars and 750 on the helmet for around $200.

Sure, those 30€ lights from ebay or even wish are not worth it. And i know some brands who put the buzzword "tactical" on their product and this increases the price by 25%. Here in germany there is a company "Lupine", also very good lights. Up to 1.050€. What i would love to see is comparison between lights with integrated battery vs battery pack and how good the mounts are. The best light is useless when it's flying around.

@@gmbn I get that, normally your videos are good but these videos of paid adverts don't give a true reflection of actual experience. You're fueling the more you spend the better it is scinario, and that's not always the case and that isn't good for our sport.. You summed it up in the video by saying you can get 17 lights for the price of that one. How is that good? I'm not denying that exposure lights aren't good , they are. Some Chinese lights are also good and the scare mongering about the plug was laughable. To summarise I feel the video does more to harm our sport than promote, not all people can afford mega money lights and it was made to feel if you don't then you can't enjoy riding at night and that's simply not the case. Anyway happy trails.

Agreed with Ian, I've used these lights for years and compared side by side with the expensive ones. This review does seem unfair. Love the channel BTW. On one expects them to be as good, but for the money, they are close, and also very reliable.

As someone new to the sport I can say it is pretty fatiguing the sheer and relentless amount of gear and gizmo pushing , I guess after all it is a commercial market like any other . I believe in investing in quality where possible and doing basic research before purchasing things but quite often a lot of what I see with biking seems clutching at straws in terms of price to benefit ratio. Kinda makes me want to rebel and just tape a couple of cheap torches to my bars like I would have done when I was kid and didn't have the funds. Makes me feel like a slave to consumerism even considering the merits of £100 lights.

Meanwhile, in the real world...

I bought a Bell light at the department store for $20 bucks and it's great. I can see far enough ahead and it's really visible to others and gather attention good at night. Good enough for me!

Hi guys, Great video as usual BUT we all cannot afford the ridiculous price of the Exposure yet definitely want to stay clear of the next to useless Cree. Surely a comparison of recommended lighting available going up in £50 steps would be much more beneficial to us mere mortals on a budget?

Funnily enough that light is not made by cree, it just use the cree XML-T6 emitter (these are rated by Cree at 960LM, but a bad implementation such as trying to fit in too many emitters in a small footprint with poor reflectors like this light will always fail, far better to use 5 or 7 LEDs with better designed reflectors). The exposure actually uses a lower power Cree emitter (this time a Cree XPL2 rated at about 500LM, www.cree.com/led-components/media/documents/dsxpl2.pdf) but with a better reflector assembly.

Been doing weekly Mtn bike night rides for 5 winters using Cree Chinese lights costing £20 with no prob.Of course if one of you impartial bike testers wants to give me a £400 light to use then many thanks.

I'm sorry I love you guys to bits But I'm going to stick up for the cheap lights here. As a group we ride every Tuesday night. Most of us have Magishine Cree lights sub £100. They are amazing lights £80 gives you a full 2 hours on full beam 4 hours on medium. I have a bar mounted and a head mounted lamp 1000 lumins each. The lamp I have ran for three years now and changed the battery pack on one of them. The lamp is light weight the battery pack can be slung under your top tube. I understand that you are sponsored by Exposure and they are a great lamp. But the small cheaper lights have their place.

I've using a CREE Light for years,the smaller one with just 2 led's....Bought a much better Battery,4hrs of Battery life, and it work's fine...Total cost 40 Quid...!!...

I understand this is a sponsored content video but come on. It's amazing how the Ebay special was suddenly a hell of a lot bright when you rode off after the power test at the start! - I'm not claiming it is near the 45,000 lumens but its a lot closer to the Exposure than you're making out. Personally I run Ebay specials (solarstorn X2 or X3) and they give amazing power and coverage and I've had over 4 years of commuting out of the X2. In fact its so bright I've got in stopped by the police when I put them on my road bike. Anyway To refer to Blake's dismissal of the 'More advanced than a car light' - that wouldn't be hard, a lot of cars still use filament bulbs rated for one output.

@@gmbn Lumens and perceived levels of light are not the same. When going from 1500 to 3000, it is nowhere near double the perceived light. And perception is what counts. Check this, all science-based.

I've used Cree's for years and they are perfectly adequate for us mere mortals. One on my helmet and two on the bars give more than enough illumination and a run time well over two hours. I only charge them during the day and make sure they're turned off and unplugged at night. Good luck punting lights at £400!! Ask yourself this, if you weren't given them or sponsored by them would you pay that much for a light???

I have a very similar setup with my Amazon Cree lights. And they are excellent. Blake got a set with a crappy bar mount. All mine also came with an reliable helmet mount too. I feel they chose a crappy Cree light on purpose.

I got a cheap solarstorm x2 light 4400mah stock battery is not enough for my 2 to 3 hour nightrides so i just by a 9600mah battery pack and it last 2 to 3 hours on high mode and using it for 2 years no problem

I get on fine with my X2'S one on lid one on bars perfect. Don't ride as long as you do so currently I'm fine me on stock batteries. I mean these are £15!

Solarstormx2 and x3 both have a better designed reflector, where this 14 LED unit has too many LED's to fit in a decent reflector in such a small footprint. I've used Solarstorms for about 4 years and never had a problem. Stock batteries are junk cells though, just a get you going pack. Use 4x Samsung 3000mah in a plastic case and it will run for about 6 hours on full.

I used the Chinese Cree lights for the Strathpuffer 2 year's ago and no problems. Plenty of light and the battery lasted 2 laps between charges. Everything was delivered in perfect working order and the rubber band even held the light in place although I have now changed it to a proper bar mount. I appreciate you get what you pay for but £400 is too much for the average person on average trail riding at night.

Very biased video, did you have to get the worst possible bike light to put against your sponsors? There are far better flashlights and batteries for the same price as the clown of the light you chose! Screw for a power supply, come on? There are waterproof battery packs with LG 18650 batteries, there are (again waterproof) battery packs that you can put your own batteries in, and have nice elastic straps that you can put the pack within the front triangle and stay sturdy -- I actually prefer the separate battery and small and light flashlight on the handlebar than having a huge and heavy flashlight that I often hit with my knees or get in the way of the handlebar operation! About the 10+ diode lights, they are plain stupid. I have tested a couple of lights with multiple diodes, and the more diodes you add, you only increase the consumption, the light emitted goes up by a single digit % - you need a flashlight with 5-6 diodes to match two single-diode lights. And the one you chose is plain wrong. The XM-L diode at full power is delivering around 1000 lumen. But this one cannot provide enough juice for so many diodes, so they most probably work at much lower output, probably around 500lm. So it theoretically cannot provide the stated output. Another issue with so many diodes is the reflector each one gets, is so small, that is next to worthless. I suppose two single-diode XM-L2 flashlights would outperform it, and last at least 5 times longer. But XM-L is getting old now, 6+ years old - and technology moves faster. There are new diodes, XHP50/70 that consume much less than multi-diode flashlight but will most definitely outperform the noname diodes in the ridiculously expensive exposure you used. I have XHP70 for $30 and 6 battery pack for $20. Buying quality cells (LG, Panasonic), you can get a dozen for $30 so you'll have spare batteries to change when the first batch dies. $80 is still much less than whatever options the sponsors provide. Yes, the flashlight is big and a bit heavy (but still lighter than those with integrated batteries), but they provide different length of elastic bands to mount them with, so they won't wiggle. There are screw-in mounts too, for a couple of $ In fact I can buy 3 flashlights, ($90), 6 battery packs ($120) and 36 cells ($90) and still get a change to buy a decent helmet light. And replace whatever breaks - unlike that you have to replace the whole all-in-one flashlight if anything goes wrong with it. But I understand that putting these against your sponsor kit won't please them as using the worst possible lights...

@@gmbn All my mates know "Chinese lumens" are bollocks. Yet plenty of us have been using Chinese lights for years. Why? Because they are close enough while being a lot cheaper. One on the helmet, another on the bars. Rain, shine, Uk conditions, they hold up well. Perceived level of light is very much diminishing returns. So you could double the "real" lumens and you would nowhere near double the actual perceived light... They all use the same Cree bulbs. All the expensive lights have is better reflectors that make most of the difference. You can choose quality batteries for the Chinese lights. I love your channel but think you may be biased towards the sponsor here. Yes, if you want to buy British and pay more for better quality and modes you can, and rightly feel good about it. But, effectiveness is not that much better. To beat the Chinese we really need to put more tariffs on them. They use many unfair practices to do so well on price. That's another topic beyond the scope here. But would appreciate some greater honesty in this review.

I picked up a $100 niterider light on a sale for about %40 off on a website and it works great. The eBay lights sucks but unless you are rich there is no reason to spend $400 on a light unless you are a pro.

Sorry, but video description promised "cheap bike lightS vs performance modelS" ... with only *3* lights tested (and 2 of'€m trav€₤₤ing in out€r $pac€) this is hardly more than an info-mercial for me. How about testing in defined price brackets (50 buck steps) and comparing 5 lights each?! And especially on night rides _even sporting identical equipment_ the following rider will always benefit from the information telegraphed by the leader and will catch up in the end! (p.s.: *_10_* different modes 🤦🏻‍♂️)

I love it, was on a winter tour recently. I used a dynamo light there powered by my hub. I loved being out in the hills on traffic free roads at night. Rode up hartside pass and camped out near there. Also love night riding with my Chinese cree lights. Around my local forest on techy terrain or in peak district.

A new video from GMBN, cheered my day up 😁

the CREE XML-T6 is the LED chips in the lamp "or at least what is claimed is in the lamp. I really really doubt Cree has anything to do with the light as they make high quality LEDs, the LEDs in the Exposure light are CREEs

@@gmbn My £30 light has lasted years. So have my mates' in the MTB club. Listening to your replies, they go against my own direct experiences. You can buy battery packs and upgrade to quality 18650 cells for not much extra money. The £30 Chinese lights themselves are very well built and waterproof. I did buy a more expensive dynamo light - as the money does make a difference there. But for the MTB lights - two of the £30 ones are great -reliable and more than bright enough for all kinds of techy stuff.

Nice vid, my set up is an exposure six pac on the bars and the light & motion seca on the helmet. Having a external battery on a helmet /head light is nice as you can throw it in a backpack or pocket and reduce the weight on head. The all in one one the bars does away with battery mounting and cabling issues. Win win.

I was just talking about this with my friend tonight! I have a pretty expensive 600 lm light that competes with the average car and my friend has no light and wants one, we wondered if a cheapo light could compete for a much lower cost, apparently not and indeed it's not great for the earth to buy cheap and buy twice. Also in my opinion always mount your brighter light on your helmet I only run a light up top the exact same light is twice as effective if not more when on my helmet!

I an currently running to different lights, one from Lezyne and one from Lupine. The Lezyne unit is certainly no crap, but the Lupine light is much better in every respect like brightness, battery life and built quality. I am pretty sure that the new Lupine Alpha or even the Betty will blow the Exposure Sixpack out of the water...

I've used light and motion seca lights for a few years and they've been great. I have a few cheap no-name lights around and they just don't have similar intensity, mounting security or beam pattern. I have mixed feelings about the batteries being connected via wire. They are inconvenient but you also don't have to clamp the battery mass to your handlebars which has been an issue over really rocky trails for me with a heavy light/battery combo where the terrain causes even decent mounts to slip.

Ive recently bought a Moon Meteor Storm Pro on a deal for £72 and its brilliant. Came with a bar mount, helmet mount, a remote to attach to the bar and the build quality feels really good. A round up of lights in a more affordable price range would be nice to see.

I found the best compromise on BL70s from Kaidomain with their own battery packs. The color, intensity and battery life can go head to head with some of the most expensive lights on the market, just for a fraction of the price.

These light are insane.. so bright. - but personally I dont buy a light for "features".. I just need it to shine when I need it. but if I had to have a feature I would go for 1st, Full light for trails 2nd, low light for normal street use at night ( every "night" riding ) I think that is about what I need.

Definitely a good feature for a light to have! The exposure's featured in the video have a few brightness modes and a decent spread to really cover the trail. Helps that 'full whack' setting really reach your peripheral vision rather than just being a spotlight in front of you!

@@gmbn IMO (and experience): _all_ night riders are equipped with a separate helmet light *anyway* cuz we tend to not drag our bike around for a "number 1" in the bushes, or for handling equipment/my backpack, fixing a flat or walking a sight worth seeing - a helmet-mounted spotlight just can't be beat here. So you might as well invest the money (saved on a less specced bar-mounted light) in a good one suitable for riding! This way 3 modes on a bar-mounted light will suffice. (for me!)

Mine that was a little more expensive (but still way cheaper than exposure) has lasted 7 years. Many of my mates in the MLB club have been using for years without a problem too.

Actually this would be about 14000 Lumens as rated by Cree for the XML-T6 emitter (960LM per emitter), who also make the XPL2 emitter (500LM per emitter) that is in the Exposure!

Exposure lights rock!

As much as I'd love to have some Exposure lights, I just don't do enough night riding to justify the cost. For my occasional night rides on pretty tame terrain, I find my NiteRider Lumina Micro 850's are more than adequate. $120 for 2 of them and the optional GoPro mount is super convenient for my helmet. Awesome night riding guys! Wish I could skid around like Neil and Blake. Crazy skills!

One of the best lights I have purchased over the years cost me £13! Its a 2 X Cree LEDs in an aluminium body with battery built in design and its served me very well for over a year and a half and is still going strong.

This was aweseome. Now for my bit, I've had light in motion Enduro 5000 set with the 1200 helmet, beautiful set up. Also, the battery pack, "night rider"... it's not a problem for the bike light, the helmet light can be a bit cumbersome to strap what is 2 18650s in a plastic housing to the helemt, but it works. And well. And not 700$

Lights aside can see why Neil’s called the Don cos he SHREDS those trails basically side ways in the dark And I always thought it was cos of his last name 😂🤙🏻

I run cheap light from AliExpress on my FF chinbar, and it works perfectly. I used my the working cells from my old unsusable laptop battery, to fix the light`s battery pack. I can get few hours of riding (2 or 3 maybe, i`ve never clocked it, to see how long it lasts). Handlebars mounted light is a no no for me, because of the blind spots and the shaking. But I haven`t done proper long night ride yet

Pretty sure the Exposure light is great and all, but it costs just a few Euro's less than my bike. There must be a better budget light. I got a 20£ light from Declaton, and it works great in a straight line but you can't see curves so well.

Great video, as always. The six pack light is a great light but it is extremely expensive for just a mtb light. But anyway, can't complain about the video🤙🏼

Currently using a NiteRider Pro 3600... Best headlights I've ever used!

Bike lights have always been overpriced! There are some great cheap lights out there once you know what to look for. The big thing to watch for is cheap fake battery's anything with "fire " in the name steer clear! Remember good 18650 battery's (what nearly every top end makers use) are around £20 for two so a £160 battery pack is a rip off even with the charging grubbing. Have a look at fenix and Armytek thurnite they all do head torches that put out 400lm for 4 hrs and under £70 that real lumens not Chinese lumens. These manufactures blow the likes of petzl black diamond etc out of the water for rear lights. So buy a cheap head unit and spend your money on battery's and chargers.i have lots of top headlights but use a cheap Chinese head unit that puts out 1200lm but runs on a usb power pack (again get a good one Iike Anker or aukey) plenty of light for 2.5 hrs for under £50 job done.

I hope u hit 1 mill on Christmas day or New year's Eve !!

Two solarstorm x3 torches for 4 years now. One on my helmet, one on bars. Have been soaked wet through and are super bright. £43 all in. That's just over a tenner a year.

What about having a GMBN-Tech on Led lights? You can find out there cheap ones that work very nice. There are many factors for a good decent light: Type of LEDS (T6, U2, etc), type of Driver (XM-L, XM-L2), batteries, etc.

I am pretty happy with my 30 € Amazon Cree light. If it falls off the handlebars? Guess what? Cable ties!

I had a cree t6 for commuting. This was a 3 bulb jobbie. It's ok. But the beam has little spread, so straight ahead only. I had a cateye triple before this. Much better. However, you need to spend a bit to get a viable light. So I just got the exposure race 15. This suits me as it is a middle ground for road and xc. The programming means that I can see well enough for off road, or do over night events, like audax rides. I still have the cree, but use it as a helmet light. On low power this is a much better option, when combined with a decent bar light.

I also think riding style is an important factor in choosing the right light. I mostly do XC rides on fire roads with the occasional rock garden. For fire roads, most Cree lights will be sufficient. I however never let the battery pack charge unattended as those packs have a nasty reputation of catching fire. I recently bought a Cateye Volt 100 Helmet light, and that is quite nice for looking into curves. For my main light i have a Uniquefire HD16 , which is bright enough for car drivers to flash the high beam at me when biking in the city.

That is some absolutely Bodmin riding style for nighttime!

I got a $20 ebay light for my helmet - solar x2 - it's actually really good! I have a Klaurus g20 on my bars which cost $140. Pretty solid setup for me.

I've had the cheap eBay lights and now have some Exposure lights (Axis and Equinox) and if you stick to the lights that are around the 1-2000 lumens area they are similar in power and beam pattern. The batteries are good at lasting too. Where there is a massive difference is in the quality and how they perform after a few uses. The eBay lights were pretty much dead after a few months of use with frayed cables and shorter runtimes, the batteries actually refused to charge after being stored for a few months over summer. I've also had the dodgy charger issue on the cheap lights too. The Exposure lights have been consistent over 2 years now, holding charge fine and as they have no cables they haven't become useless after bouncing around in the bag in the boot of my car. If you only go night riding once or twice a year then the cheap lights are an option (as long as you budget to get a decent UK-sourced and tested charger) but if you regularly ride in the dark (I even do it in the summer!) then spending that bit more for all-in-one quality lights is worth doing.

I run this exact cree light and yes the clamp is not great if your bouncing down trails hard but for 80 percent of us it's fine. One on the bars and another cheap cree light on my helmet was perfect for me. I did a test on this cree light and I got over 5 hours run time on high setting. This is more than enough for general riding... Ye if you want to race enduro the more expensive lights would work better but for trail riding with mates this cree light does the job.

They do the job, but we find that you might be a good one, but you never actually be sure of what you're getting.

I bought an exposure six pack and a Diablo 2 years ago. Hell expensive but I’m of the philosophy buy once and be done. 2 years on and I reckon they got another 8 years in them. Solid, functional and yeah just plain easy to live with and use.

Those six pack light look great. I just wonder about that feature where the power gets kicked down at low speed. If you're on a slow approach to a technical roll in or steep section, if you slow down a lot at the top to get a look before you drop in, it would be very annoying if the light then kicked down to low power so you couldn't see as easily. Not that Ill be affording those lights any time soon, but I just wondered if you came across that.

Hey Max, a legit worry that the guys at Exposure have thought about! The time it takes for the light to fade down to a lower setting is extended, so won't happen within a short time of you slowing. If you stop and need to reset, just tap the button and it'll boost up again and stay at that level once you gather pace again :)

Question. Why is light setup diffrent from motorcycle enduro night light setup? On motorcycles they usually run the strongest lightsource on the helmets. What is the reason to having a differrent setup on a mtb? Great content, keep it up.

Good question! We think it's to do with the helmets involved. A motocross helmet is bulkier and more sturdy, so a heavier light on it is less noticeable. Whilst you can (and some of us here prefer) to run the brighter light on the helmet, it can be heavier and off-putting. Especially on an open face trail lid. That's why the majority of us here choose to run the brighter source on the bars. Not only is it lighter (weight), but it points consistently in the direction of travel, rather than turning your head and loosing track of a lot of the definition on the ground directly ahead.

There should be no difference in light setup between motorcycle enduro and mtb , I run the same setup for both. The reason bar application is advised for the large exposure lights is that they have an internal battery pack and are heavy, if you run a light with a separate battery pack you can put a very bright light on your helmet which is light such as the solar storm lights.

Just ride a little bit slower and more carefully and you'll be totally fine with way under 1000lm lights. As much fun as bombing down the trails at night is, let's not forget about wild animals. Flooding their habitat with thousands of lumen lights seems unnecessary to me.

Just bought a Vitagen set up from Amazon here in the USA $26.00. (40 pounds)?. I'll let you know how it works out. Out of the box the brightness seems adequate. Merry Christmas GMBN!

First GMBN video I have ever disliked, and I am seriously thinking about unsubscribing if this is the way the channel is going. I understand that Play Sports Network is a marketing company but there is a difference between showcasing a bit of kit that is a bit pricey but high-quality and something a complete ripoff like a $600 light. High quality, powerful, and long-lasting lights can be that are much cheaper than the overpriced Exposure without being complete junk like your ebay lights.

We're sorry to hear that, jrhist16 gmail. It was obvious to use lights from Exposure, as they're one of our partners. And we wanted to look at how the cheaper lights that many people buy from Amazon/ebay compared, at least to a degree. It's often the fact that people just go for the cheaper lights, while others splash out for the more premium lights, like Exposure in this case. We certainly know that there's an in between, and we actually didn't go out to look for the worst lights we could, but just the lights that are often bought. We don't think that Exposure lights are a ripoff, however, and think that based on their performance and quality, you're investing in a set of lights that will last many years and keep performing just as well.

I'm using the Cateye Volt 1600. It's not the brightest out there but I'm not riding it on the super technical stuff anyway.

CREE us a manufacturer that makes LED chips and are pretty much the same in all lights. Suspect the super light also has CREE XML T6 LED inside as well. The difference is usually battery quality, overall build quality and design. Also, 2x lumens would not equal twice as bright. It is a non-linear logarithmic relation.

My my wife and I both run Fenix lights and they are great bang for the buck. I wouldn't consider them expensive at all for what you get and they are insanely bright!

Magicshine for UK riding FTW

I run an Exposure Maxx D on the bars with a remote switch and an Exposure Joystick on my helmet. The lights are worth the cost purely for the reduction in clutter and cables, due to the batteries being integral to the units. It’s much neater. Also the brackets are very solid and quick release. The customisable burn times are also features well worth having and are very useful. I’ve never had an Exposure light let me down when out in the dark in the middle of nowhere. However I’ve had plenty of the cheap ones like what was featured in this video completely die on me without any warning. I gave up on the cheap lights after going through 4 of them in my first year of MTB. I went Exposure and have never looked back. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I agree bike lights shouldn’t have to cost so much to be any good, but with everything in the cycling world in my experience. Nothing cheap in cycling is worth having if you expect it to do it’s job.

Glo worm make some really good lights their cheapest one is £120 and has changeable lenses. They also can be programmed to change brightness modes. They sell 3 different models. £120 being the cheapest and £240 being the most expensive. They have very sturdy mounts and both lights can be controlled via a Bluetooth controller on the bars.

Lights like the exposure £485 one are extra useful when riding 24 hour marathons. The run time has to be managed rather than a 1 1/2 hour night ride with our mates where I take a spare battery and light, the cheap ones. You get what you pay for but if you haven’t got the cash then better to have some form of light than crash 😂

Try to compare with the lantern, "wheel up V9D-1600"

I have both the lights in this review (all four in fact). The cheap ones probably aren’t as bad as made out (torchy on eBay is ok), however the exposure combo is so much better, if you regularly ride at night, particularly solo, it is definitely one of the best can buy for you bike. Also bear in mind you can get them for about half the prices quoted. #whosaidmtbwascheap #moneywellspent

Is it water proof/resistant? The Light and Motion Seca and the Exposure Six Pack?

Had quite a few lights eaten over the years.I use a gas lamp now and things leave me alone.

even a pair of 500 lumen lights that are made by an actual bike light company work quite well.

If it's snowing, you might not want too extreme light power. Luckily most lights are somewhat adjustable. (Same applies to car lights)

remember when top gear used to get an entire show out of 3 different cars having spent not much more that £1000 between them, now we cant even get 9 minutes of decent content from a nearly £500 light. hardly any wonder that Exposure need to sponsor all your videos, not many people are dumb enough to be convinced that spending that much dough on a light is a good idea

Forgot to say that all the guys I ride with also use £20 Chinese lights with no issues.What a coincidence that Blake’s light not only had a duff charger but also came loose😂
