Don't even get me started lol
Worst idea I ever did was an efan. They draw high current through the wires and relays. Lots of heat and room for things to go wrong. One of my relays melted. The fan went out and before I could catch it. My engine overheated and warped the heads. The cost to rebuild was greater than the value of the truck. I ended up scraping it. I have learned to respect the 100's of millions in engineering into these vehicles.

Lots of things draw high current, If you have the proper relays and wiring, there shouldn't be a problem The majority of vehicles nowadays have electric fans

Pretty much described what happens when you don't run the right wire size and relay size for the item you want to run. I've had electric fans now for over 10 years including a pair of flexalite 16" 3000cfm fans cooling a 600hp Cummins 5.9. wires only get hot when you have too much current on a small wire.
This is the kind of project where you could use a 3d printer to custom print brackets for the fan to the stock bolt points. Great mod!
@PoorManMods

Yeah, I could easily 3D print a bracket or even make one out of steel But it's secured pretty well for now and it's hidden so I didn't feel like putting that much effort into it 😆

Good video and info brother!!! In my research, I hear guys love the fans off the Continental's. Not sure of size and such, but they are highly rates and can be had at the bone yards. Cheers From Motown/Dearborn. Oh also, no worries on the zip ties. If ya ain't riggin, you ain't ridin. lol

A high flow air filter may help, but that's really it engine wise for this engine. Lifting, heavier wheels and bigger tires will murder fuel economy, so stick to light weight wheels stock ride height and street tires if fuel economy is a concern. Headers will help with power but in my case they hurt my fuel economy a bit.
What part of the Sequoia engine did it hit? And was that a 1st Gen Sequoia?

Will this fit in a 92 4Runner, if so what kind of relays and wiring do you recommend to improve it?
@782941105

my 92 v6 4runner, I used 95 Ford Taurus fan. Had to trim fan shroud a little bit. Fan width almost perfect fit. High speed connection for engine cooling. High speed used Dakota Digital 70 amp relay to withstand 110F desert heat. (30 amp, 1 of the pin melted). Low speed connection for A/C. Low speed used eBay generic 30 amp relay. Fan turns on at 200F and turns off at 185F thru a lower radiator in-line hose fitting adapter with temperature switch from eBay by seller american-volt. About 2mpg gain, same as Poor Mans Mods Freddy. Also switched the factory 60amp alternator to 100amp MR2 alternator.

Heck yeah 👍
I used the same controller on my Mazda truck. It's pretty good but I wish it was built better. Would be nice if it was better looking and in a sealed in a nice enclosure. Most of all I wish it had a connector instead of wire just going into that potting material. Also a thread in sensor option would be nice

@PoorManMods

I dont think theres such thing as too much air. When driving down the highway at 65-80 mph, you are getting more air flow than most fans can generate and its not hurting a thing.

The best solution is to find a large electric fan that fits center into the stock fan shroud, you secure the fan to the radiator, then put the fan shroud over it, and everything else remains exactly the same
@PoorManMods

@@ImperatorCaesar22 I disagree but you're certainly welcome to go that route
@ImperatorCaesar22
4 күн бұрын
@@PoorManModsOr you don’t have to secure it to the radiator, you could affix it to the shroud itself. But what’s your reasoning? Other than it (subjectively) looking more OEM?
@PoorManMods
4 күн бұрын
@@ImperatorCaesar22 Securing an aftermarket electric fan to the OEM shroud wont look OEM at all, and id imagine it would be quite difficult to do so, or just look awful. If you mount the fan to the radiator inside the of the OEM shroud, that renders the OEM shroud useless, the fan would have to be in the very back/hole of the shroud to make it really functional. Seems like alot of headache, and probably more cost than just finding this OEM ford fan and dropping it in. The ford fan is likely going to flow more air and be more reliable than an aftermarket/universal electric fan too.
@ImperatorCaesar22
4 күн бұрын
@@PoorManModsWell that is a very good point about it possibly looking janky or being a headache. And the drop in fan is definitely easier and cheaper. What I was thinking of is getting a fan that matches roughly the diameter of the fan shroud hole, securing it in the center, then putting some type of foam or other material to fill the gap (should be no more than 0.5-1” if the fan is big enough). That way you retain the stock look, don’t have to mount it directly to the radiator, and don’t have to mess with the coolant overflow either, and to remove it entirely if you want to do maintenance, it would lift off by unbolting the shroud it’s mounted on. That’s what I was thinking about doing but your idea is also way cheaper and easier haha. I just don’t want to secure anything directly to the radiator, that makes removing it harder, plus I wasn’t sure about CFM, but it sounds like this flows sufficient air.

@@tomkelly3896 I do not know the CFM. I just know it's a fan originally designed for a 5.0 iron block V8 car and it does just fine and those cars and in my 4Runner. If you're having issues running hot, you may want to consider a larger radiator if you're going to consider changing to this electric fan
