    A short, informative video; no hype. Thanks. I just bought one, (with the wrong adapter plug) and look forward to trying it out. The packaging was neat, and adequately protective.

    I'm wondering if this would be a good emulation box? I'm planning to run a bar top with vertical MAME games only.

    I think this might be okay, but for peace of mind i'd suggest getting a PC with better graphics capabilities. The only emulation I tested was PCSX2 which granted, is more demanding, but it sucked! Beelink SER 5 might be a better choice for your needs. Thanks for commenting

    I bought one that hasn't arrived yet. I did so because I'm a mac user and there are a bunch of little games on steam that don't seem too terribly graphics intensive that I'd like to play but don't want to fuss with bootcamp. I'm really hoping it has enough CPU to run 'They are billions' and 'Forts.'

    I'm looking for something to use as a file server, has got to be a Windows machine. would the 16GB/500GB version do the job?

  • @SmallBoxCentral

    @SmallBoxCentral

    I don't see why not! Although remember your speed will be limited to the LAN port speed, so max file transfer speed you'll get is ~120MB/s in ideal conditions.

    @@SmallBoxCentral thanks for the reply, so one with dual LAN ports and preferably 2.5gbs would be better?

  • @SmallBoxCentral

    @SmallBoxCentral

    7 ай бұрын

    @@jhcs43 Sadly it's not that easy! To get 2.5gb speeds you would need a 2.5gb switch/router and a 2.5gb network card on each PC you want to use it with. Otherwise it will default to 1gb. I don't think you can combine two ports to double the speed on windows file servers. Ultimately your speed will always be limited by your slowest network component, so you would need to upgrade everything to 2.5 or higher to get faster speeds which is very time consuming and expensive With that said 1gb speed is more than enough for most things, it's only the really big files (10+ GB) where you start to feel it being slow. Hope that helps

    Does watching 4k 60fps video count as doing something graphically intensive? That's all I need it for and these celeron or n100/200 devices seem perfect for that.

  • @SmallBoxCentral

    I'm surprised how well it handled the 4k video if I'm honest, because I would consider it graphically intensive too. Maybe KZread's compression means the bit rate is so low that it can handle it fine, but would struggle with 4k blu-rays. If you had doubts maybe step up to the SER 5 or something but I think you'd be fine if it's just KZread

    I would expect it to do video trans coding very well. According to Ark this has intel quick sync support thats intels hardware encoder/decoder which is one of the best in the business. On that basis it will be great as a small media box and performance should be comparable to other intel 12th gen parts.

    does anyone know if this would work OK with stock market trading/charting software - such as TDAmeritrade/Schwab _Think or Swim_ or similar? I know it's not a CPU/GPU intensive video game, but software like this (in my standard usage) does repaint hundreds of quotes and update 4-6 charts several times per second. My ~2013 desktop with an Intel 4770k handles it with ease, but I'm required to upgrade to Windows 11 and I don't want to spend more than I have to. Thanks

  • @SmallBoxCentral

    4770k performs better than this so I'd probably go a little higher end like a Beelink SER5 - the Ryzen 5 5560U in the SER5 should be about twice as fast as a 4770K (and it's still quite cheap relatively speaking)
