Injuries are a part of the game that's at least partly beyond a team's control. Still, some teams are more top-heavy than others. Some teams are deeper than others. Something I've noticed about the Chiefs is every year, for several years running, they were deeper than the year before. SB LIV was on a shoestring. They have so much better players, now, and so much better depth, but they don't have as much star power. Hill, Watkins and Hardman were pretty elite in SB LIV. But they didn't have much of an interior offensive line. Now they've got a good interior offensive line, but they don't really have a star-studded WR group. After this SB, KC still looks like it has room to grow, without losing a whole heck of a lot, if they can lure back some key FAs.

It reminds me of a fifteen round championship boxing match. After ten or eleven rounds of body punches, they finally take their toll late. Mahomes presence puts so much pressure on the defense all game because you have to expend the effort to protect against of the so many facets of what Mahomes can do to you, that at the end of the game the pressure and the extended extra effort all game exhausts the defense. Defenses just wilt against Mahomes late in games. Things that they were able to defend all game, but at a cost of extra expended effort, they no longer have gas in the tank to defend at the end of games.

Nothing tires out a defense more than having to chase and cover for an extra 2 or 3 seconds every play or every other play. In the old days, you wore down the defense with the running game. Mahomes wears the defense down by scrambling around, extending plays, and moving the sticks, making you go right back and defend him, again. It's almost better to let him throw bombs, and then grind on the ground against the Chiefs, to avoid being ground down.

If you are playing for a third possession possibility, you have to go for it on 4th down inside red zone and then go for two after a TD. There is no situation where there will be a third possession because Andy Reed will never be playing for a FOURTH possession. He will win or lose going for it on every 4th down and he will go for 2 after any TD. Know your opponent.

I'm gonna get heat for saying this, but I think the reputation of the trio of Reid, Mahomes, and Kelce is so deeply entrenched that we won't even consider this Chiefs defense to be on the same level as the 1985 Bears or 2000 Ravens even though they were statistically pretty similar and dominated nearly every game they played.

Put the whiskey down, b4 your IQ drops below 25! The 200 Ravens were t even as good as the 85 Bears (and are only 3rd best in franchise history), going by some analytics. Part of that, is from not getting many turnovers. But, I will say, they’ve had the best Def of any team in the playoffs.

Truly hard to compare teams of different eras, but anecdotally, no one will be referencing KC’s D in 40 years the way the ‘85 Bears still are. KC’s defense was excellent this year, but those teams of yesteryear gave up almost no points in the playoffs, all games, so I’d leave it at that.

I'd say the 49ers have won more than their share of superbowls during the Montana and Steve Young years how many was it 5 times between the both of them? Purdy will never be the reason SF ever wins a superbowl he will have to be a game manager that isn't asked to carry the team the way a mahomes has to do game after game in the playoffs. Put mahomes on that talent filled offense of San Fran to go along with its star studded defense and he might not of lost a game all season!

  • @notthatrkelly

The 49ers need to recognize the need to keep Purdy's pocket clean and invest picks on the O-line. They also need to add a third LB (they're missing Azeez Al-Shaair this year) and a few new corners. Also, Jake Moody sucks.

He thinks that if he mixes them in with overall okay to great plays, it's okay to have some crappy ones & he's _wrong!!!_ The crappy ones allowed the other team to make it on Big Downs. It's as if Wilks is just calling them in some predetermined order & if that means they give up 1st downs on 3rd or 4th, he just can't help it when actually, he _can!_ It's *his decision!*

49ers had the game won in the 4th quarter. They needed 4 yards to win. 4 Yards!! And they had 2 downs to get it. Give it to CMC, get the 4 yards (even if it takes 2 downs) , milk the clock down to 3 seconds, kick the game winning field goal, win the Superbowl. Once they decided to give the ball back to Mahomes with 2 minutes left, they might as well have handed Mahomes the Lombardi 🏆 . Shanahan is a tool.

Reid has proven he can win with or w/o mahomes. Billicheat can't win w/o Brady that's been proven before and now after Brady.
