    I really loved a shot or two on FF for how big and wide the image felt, but overall Id say I actually prefer them on S35 much more. Thank you very much for this test! It's one of the most thorough on KZread! I have a full set on pre order and am waiting till I can try a demo set for myself, this only has me more excited!

    @nickcarter7611 I totally agree with you. It's just something about how much more drawn into the scene I felt with the super 35. I myself have been debating about shooting my next project FF or S35 and I 99.9% sure I'm going to go S35.

    I love this idea of having both a “character lens” and a cleaner option. That’s more meaningful to me than the old “two focal lengths” thing. Looks like a brilliant lens!

    Honestly it feels like Atlas took note of just how close Orions come to covering LF, and chose to squeeze out 100% image circle coverage on a compact set of 1.5X glass optimized for S35.

    And yet again, I wish for a wider focal length in the mercury set

  • @Veptis

    I am not sure. I would have expected the larger sensor to show more of the distorted edges... But I guess it also means you can use the shorter focal length with a smaller sensor. And the wider lenses show more distortion. And yes, I like the distortion. So maybe It's time to buy a large sensor camera.

    Glad I got my preorder in for my Mercury 42 @ 5K. Just noticed they Atlas has not priced these at 8K each.( almost the same as their Orions) . I wasn't expecting that. I thought these were going to be priced at 6K after the pre-orders.

    I don't have these lense, but using a SLR Magic 2X 50mm on my Sony A7Rii, the full frame is much clearer. I feel I am giving up sensor on S35 and it seems to be less clear. Of course, I can change taking lenses to get rid of the Vignetting. I have zero Vignetting using the 645 lenses I have or the 85mm lens. I am not sold on S35 as of yet.

    1st. Clearly WAAAAAY better in S35 mode. But if you wanted to shoot in S35 mode and use the whole frame for faces, can you? what happens if you're shooting traditional OTS shots or French overs? putting 2 people in frame looking into camera on each 1/3. How much detail do you retain outside of the center of the lens and how quickly does it drop off. Personally, in FF, unless you're shooting on the crosshairs, the lenses seem borderline unusable in real world scenarios. In s35 it appears to be much better, but everything here was center framed. I'd be really worried about getting to set and a client has a shotlist and all you can do is put everything directly in the center. Seems like this lens is telling you how to shoot vs the lens being an extension of the DP's story telling capability. I really want to see how these perform around the edges in practical shooting scenarios. Id be worried that I'd get in trouble as a dp choosing these lenses for a paid gig when so little is in focus. As a rental house, I feel like id have producers asking for refunds since these don't have a large area of sharpness and I feel like they'd be asking if they were collimated right or if our set was bad. Just too many variables to use these confidently in any professional scenario unless you were trying for a really trippy scene.

    Seemed to work just fine for Oren Soffer on The Creator - actually what you’re describing as weaknesses are the qualities that made them choose this lens to match the vintage Kowa anamorphic that they shot most of the film on. If you value very clean, sharp images why even go for an anamorphic lens that’s attempting to replicate vintage characteristics?

    A friend of mine, did you shoot on the S1h in super 35 mode the second time and then in full frame mode 6k inside? I can't understand why anamorphic mode is highlighted in S1h as 4v3, but there is 6k 3;2. Isn't it possible to shoot inside anamorphically 6k 3; 2?

  • @AnamorphicOnABudget

    @AnamorphicOnABudget

    Yes, they're both possible. The "default" anamorphic mode is 4:3 though.

  • @ggdfggdfgdffgfddg34

    @ggdfggdfgdffgfddg34

    Жыл бұрын

    @@AnamorphicOnABudget And why is the default mode 4:3 in super 35? In the videos you say that the picture with super 35 mode is cleaner, as I understand it is more sharp in the corners, but isn't this a problem of the lens and not the sensor itself? You talked about the purity of the image, but I clearly saw that in the full frame mode, the bokeh is more pronounced and the three-dimensionality is more felt. You know, I was thinking about GH6, but after your video, I don’t understand at all why anamorphs are needed on 4/3, when bokeh is an almost unattainable task?

    I actually liked the S35 more. The sharpness is better. Also, the full frame felt odd in a way I can't explain. Maybe a less natural, real life look.
