1999 - 2022: 22 years to build a success story
SUNWARD Intelligent Equipment Group was founded in the People's Republic of China in 1999 by Mr. He Quinghua, a charismatic and innovative Professor at the Central South University. In 2011, the company was renamed., Ltd. - with headquarters in Changsha City, the capital and most populous city of Hunan Province in south-central China.
SUNWARD started with the revolutionary Hydraulic Static Pile Driver innovation, based on a patent by Professor He Quinghua. Then, in 2000, SUNWARD created a tunnel drilling robot, filling a gap in this field in China. One year later, in 2001, SUNWARD started researching and developing mini-excavators, creating one of the first small excavators in China, at a time when the market was dominated by foreign brands. A successful start, as the SUNWARD multifunctional hydraulic excavator won the ‘First Prize in Modelling and Appearance Quality Evaluation’ during the 6th Edition of BICES the same year. In 2009, SUNWARD continued as a pioneer in the industry, launching the world’s first intelligent excavator as well as the first hybrid excavator in China. During these first 20 years, SUNWARD gained extensive experience in designing and manufacturing excavators, placing the company among the Top 20 brands for excavators globally.
In the years following 2009, SUNWARD extended its offer with many other products, including Rotary Drilling Rigs, Skid Steers, Underground Mining Equipment, Crawler Cranes, Aerial Work Platforms, special equipment, and even Aircraft and face masks.
Today, SUNWARD boasts over 200 products in its global range. In only 20 years, the company has secured its place among the top players globally, generating an annual turnover of nearly $1 billion in 2019. The company has also been ranked in KHL Group’s Yellow Table since 2019, placing SUNWARD among the world’s top 50 Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). In 2022, SUNWARD was ranked at number 32.
SUNWARD’s motto ‘Innovation Leads to Value’ encapsulates the company’s commitment to revolutionizing the machinery used across the heavy equipment industry. The 22 R&D Centers developing engineering equipment further demonstrate the company’s commitment with over 1000 patents registered so far. Alongside these research and development centers, SUNWARD employs over 5,500 people, including 411 full-time R&D employees.
But SUNWARD would not be able to achieve such success without the vision and dynamism of its founder, who places innovation at the very heart of the company. A true forward thinker, Professor He is anchored in a very solid university and research background, and he is driven to constantly cultivate and improve himself. Professor He has registered 252 patents of his own. He has implemented the company’s characteristic integration of industry-university-research, and SUNWARD’s leading innovations have achieved progressive leaps in development.
