Photographers have the same challenge with landscape photos with regard to originality; it’s hard to take a picture in some National Parks without completely mimicking the same shot Ansell Adams has done (and thousands of others have done since). But, I remember reading in Emerson’s Self-Reliance that he felt all thoughts that a man has are unique because he has never thought them before, even if other men have (paraphrasing, of course). So I worry less about that now than I used to! I hope you keep doing these travel vlogs, and I like that you keep them daily instead of one big long one.

You make a really good point! I've had a similar thought about painting. No two painters will paint the same subject in exactly the same way. As for the travel vlogs, I plan to keep going!

I find it intriguing to paint or photograph in same place with another person. The final paintings or photos truly differ.
about 50 years ago, I took some very grainy film and drove out to Joshua Tree to take pictures under the full moon. VERY dramatic and amazing!

Hailey Keller Michael is exactly the same person off camera...as authentic as they come
I had never realized how surfaces pick up light differently, the blue vs orange reflections on the rocks blew my mind!!! There really is beauty in everything!
Congrats on realizing the superiority of painting plein air, rather than from photos. Personally, I don't care if a view has been commonly used, if its new to me, and I can find someway to exploring it visually, or artistcally, its worth doing.
i went one night, last March and it was cold and rainy. it felt so peaceful.
Nice choice of background music! Oh man such a great point about discovering your own unique "point of view", and then translating that into a painting, there as they say "lies the rub". This is going to sound crazy but you need a Onewheel, it would so useful in how you travel around :) It's like surfing on land (an endless wave). AMAZING ROCKS! (loved the humor at the end too!)
That "Happy Cooker" place you stopped by reminded me of some paintings by William Wray (of Ren and Stimpy fame) that he calls "urban landscapes".

Especially loved your Joshua Tree(s) painting!! Very nice work!

Love THIS! And, love your sense of (selfie) humor! Thank you for pointing out the reflected shadow colors on the rocks!! Super helpful. Painting is all about learning to *see*, eh?
Such an interesting video. Thanks again for sharing your talent with us.
Great video and great work Mike as usual, very interesting place. While you were crossing those buildings coming back I thought "he should stop there and take some pics for studio paintings" and you did LOL. Sunny buildings casting strong shadows in a desert make great paintings.

Good to see the painting videos again. I have been painting mostly from photos, but you got me excited again to go outside. Of course now it’s winter here, and I’m not that excited!
tree portraits YES!!!..it might help to include the long shadows of sunrise on the ground..give it more interest.!
I've been binge watching your videos while I'm sick and stuck in bed lol! living vicariously through your vlogs 😂

So cool to see how you’re all painting the same area but your paintings all turned out so different! The colors of the desert are so pretty.
Doing vlogs✅ a good content ✅ exploring areas✅ what i called a painting wonderful ✅ keep up the good work👍❤️
8:50 those paintings came from the God's hand LOL. Mike runs wild in the wilderness haha.
The Hidden Valley trail is so beautiful. I appreciate your observation of the reflections on the rocks. The crisp contrast of light and shadow would be fun to paint but the trees definitely a challenge. Great vlog!

Loving the Joshua Tree series! You can never be alone when nature walks with you in such abundance. Paintings are smooth too man. Next roadtrip I'd love to hit up Utah, California from south to north, up through Oregon and Washington. The coastal highway is too rich an opportunity to dismiss :-)

Thanks! I'd love to visit Utah. Friends have gone and highly recommend it. Yes, the coast highway is amazing, especially through Big Sur. I really need to explore north of the golden gate!
I love how differently you see the world (from a painter's prospective) it gives me more understanding into my mom's paintings and why she loves it so much ❤️ thank you for sharing your painting road trip!!! 🙌
You have such talent! I love watching your videos when I’m taking a break from homework, I’m a college student from New York City! Keep up the daily travel vlogs!!! 🤘
you make me want to go! i just google mapped it and it’s only 4/5 hours from me! i love when videos inspire me to live differently. soooo cool man

your attention to color and detail is astounding! it’s very interesting to hear about the different aspects that go into a good painting/piece of art.
That was a beautiful trail! And a great real time example of the warm & cool colors on the rock. You should do more of that...seeing color the way you need to in order to paint is a learned skill and I think a lot people don’t see the colors that way. I don’t and I’ve been doing photography forever. I was conditioned to seeing the shapes and values over the color. Great paintings as usual too!

I always watch your channel during my study breaks and it is literally the most calming thing after doing extensive college chemistry. Also inspires me to go paint my favorite park, keep it up!
The light tones look good n nice to paint. I think in a subject like this the shadows will set the stage. Happy Painting Mate 😊🎨

does holding your paint brush that way make it easier to paint/blend things or have more control over the paintbrush???

It allows you to stand back from your painting while painting it. That's also the reason oil painting brushes have long handles. 😊

chamberlainpaintings thank you for the tip! 😌good to know, i didn’t know that about oil brushes, i haven’t worked w them much quite yet
Isn’t it hard to sell paintings that recall a beautiful experience?
@chamberlainpaintings
4 жыл бұрын
The only paintings I have trouble selling are good ones that I've lived with on my walls. I have paintings that I would have gladly sold when first painted, but now I'll never sell. It's the time spent with them in my home, living with them day after day that creates the attachment.
