I remember coming to sunrise dances early in the morning with my grandma! Loved those days❤

It is AWESOME to see so many people embrace their culture and tradition! I especially love the fact that the kids are NOT SHY about participating. Just freakn' awesome!! :-)

Nay Tive Going to sunrise dances happen alot... Many of the kids are just used to it. And very sunrise dance has a photographer so yeah...

im loving this!! my culture is proudly showing! Being so far away on the eastside of the US. I can feel connected to my roots and imnot ashamed to be myself who is full blooded Apache!

I was honored to be invited to a young woman's sunrise ceremony in the 90's at San Carlos rez. Powerful. Beautiful.

And the Flags are just what they stand for. They are Apache, but they are also proud to be American, so they bring the flags to offer the power and prayer to their homeland. its also to honor the Apache soldiers and all soldiers who are american warriors fighting for the traditional ways to continue.

I think the women's dresses are quite beautiful, and great chanting.

Question why is the American flag there? Answer: We are Native Americans and we honor our relatives who have served in the U. S armed forces with the flag. We maybe screwed by the government but we still are patriotic. 👌🏼👍🏼

@Alfred People of color should never serve in the armed forces. The same destruction the armed forces brought in natives and blacks are now inflicted on people of color in the middle east.

History tells it all Native Americans are the most who have served for this country, even if we were screwed by the Government but we are Warriors and still are to this day

I am Native (Paiute) that little boy bring me a big smile when I need it on bad day, I just watch you video and he makes me smile.

i just beautiful to listen this music.i don't understand anything they sing but makes me feel so relax.

Sitting here missing the sunrise dance ceremonies this summer! Was honored last year as I was able to sponsor one for my daughter. I wanted her to have the same experience I had back in the early 90's. As I read several comments of the godmother wearing the navajo attire to why cowboy hats to the american flag being part of the ceremony I have to mention a few things. For one the godmom is half Apache & half Navajo so in this part of the ceremony which is the 1st day out of the 4 day ceremony the families are being introduced as well as the girl & her godparents this is where it all begins. Usually the godmom will represent her other half if she is not full blooded Apache which is what this godmom did for this part of the ceremony and the next 3 days she was in her camp dress Apache attire just like the ones you see the other women in the video are wearing. As for the men & the medicine men wearing cowboy hats it protects them from the heat & sun as they are singing & praying for the 4 day ceremony, from as far back as I can remember cowboy hats have been around in our culture. Haven't you heard of Indian Cowboy? Lol. As for the American Flag its not really part of the ceremony, during this part the godparents dance over to the girl's camp & some families (not all) will display the different types of flags especially if they have relatives or families from either sides that are part of the armed services. On this day & on the 3rd day of the ceremony during the gift exhanges are the only time it is used, some families display it at the entrance of their camps & thats it. This was a good dance because everyone was dancing & participating throughout the whole weekend & the singing by the late Bert Hinton Sr was definitely powerful as always along with his group.

I really enjoyed this video, thank you for posting. I love the beat and how it just lifts my spirit to hear my native brothers and sisters singing and dancing!

Love the support between different tribes. Love that the godmother is Navajo and dressed representing her own tribe yet she still dances hard in the ceremony.😊

we've had plenty of Native Americans serve our country in the military service and we are proud Native Americans and also proud Americans to have serve our country

Man that communal vibe is awesome! Them yungns, that's how they learn ,so cool to see the community come together and be one,wish ours could so the same but it is what it is. Keep that stuff going there my Apache bros and sisters, good to see natives coming together and getting down ,brings a tear to my eyes ,keep it up there my Apache people's.

I am Apache! My family consisted of just my father andi I. When I was three my father died then I was adopted into his side of the family, eventhough hey were part Isleta also, I was never taught anything because they were scared and ashamed to be native. Now at age 55, I know almost nothing about my culture, very sad story. However, MANY, THANKS for sharing your beautiful ceremony. (I wish I had family to have experienced my own ceremonies and aplaud you for your courage) Bless you!!!!

apacheheart its a sad thing, unfortunately those were the times in those years. We also lost because when my Grandparents made their way out to Southern Calif in 1913, for a job with the Santa Fe Railroad, they never said out loud who they were.

My Mom was from WhiteRiver and our family we were raised in Utah but whenever we get to Whitriver to visit family or to go to a Sunrise dance it feels like home.

aaawwwe, the little guys !!! that's so awesome to know it's going on and on. WE are indians and we have survived all the put upon us. I would love to go witness this someday. Thanks, feel very blessed today.

Be proud to be from a strong Native American Tribe with a history of great leaders. You are your own people.The history of America against native people is nothing to be proud of.

If i have a daughter with an Apache woman in the near future, we are definitely celebrating her Sunrise Ceremony!!! Great video!

Hey that is my grandpa. He is the medicine man for this dance. I love seeing dances that he dose.

I know alot of San Carlos, but this is the first time I have seen the sunrise dance.

I love the unity, the elders along with the cute kids.

Similarly tribe as the cucapah tribe from Baja California.beautiful dance.Aztec Pride.

Hi there sorry for some negative responses you are getting for a simple question. Well here is my take on it and I am Apache. We are in a modern world now and of course live in the West. The western ways of "cowboy" is also a part of our Apache people now. We have cowboys who work the ranch, herd cattle, and live the whole cowboy life style. And as far as I can remember the medicine men and his singers have alwasy worn cowboy hats. It is just a part of our lives now.

Many Native American people are now living in a transitional world of balance. We live two worlds, the Traditional Native world as well as the present "Modern World". They wear cowboy hats because many of them are ranchers, or famers. It's the Southwest. Many Natives adopted the hat and attire because its appropriate for working in their farms or ranches or fields it's just like teenagers wear emo, preppy, or skater type clothing. its just the trend or style a person prefers.

I wish we had a strong culture like this, our culture full of different superstition, bought on trauma of residential schools from catholic nuns and priests. The aftermath left us divided and fighting over government scraps. I wish i could witness this event, keep strong apache, for our youth.
