What a lovely area you 2 live in. Im 74 now but remember my uncles had farms with horses etc i loved visiting them I love the countryside so much . Cannot beat it. I love how you and your mum get on. Thank you for this channel

The lilacs get really big you’re probably gonna have to eventually put them in the ground. Just a heads up if you don’t know, I apologize if you do! And certain types of wisteria can be evasive and again I do like the direction of this channel. I enjoy, watching your beautiful piece of property develop! 😊

I’m in NZ, wisteria here can be a pain & a problem weed. If you want it to grow well, use blood & bone fertiliser, the scent from the flowers will be glorious. Be careful with putting things into the mortar, if the rain gets in it can erode the mortar over time. Not good! You can get hooks that clip into brick walls which don’t damage the walls, they are excellent for just what you are doing. It’s nice to see other folk run out of things just like we do, zip ties especially! 😊😊

I don't know if it's the same wisteria that I had here in Kentucky but it took over and ripped the gutter off the garage then caved the roof in. It gets woody and extremely heavy.

My house was covered in wisteria on the front face-couldn't even see the cedar siding of the house at all. One day after a little windstorm I came home from work and the whole plant lay across the front lawn, in a solid leafy sheet; couldn't see a blade of grass it was so covered. I'd never seen my house before actually and it was a shock. At any rate, you have a stone house so you may fare better, but I can tell you a few puny staples will never hold it as it gets big and heavy. I'd advise pruning heavily each fall. It will all grow back come spring. Also note that is nearly un-killable. When we decided to do away with the plant, we dug down three feet and as wide, to get out the whole root. But any little piece of root or stem left in the ground will come back. It's been a decade and I still pull out little wisteria plants that pop up where the root had been! If you plant Wisteria, make very sure you really want it!

The wisteria is going to be beautiful when it matures and trail over the doorway. Its always nice to have a beautiful entryway that way you admire it on the way in and out. Love the video.😊

Put coffee grounds and tea bags on the roses. This will feed the roses and make them come back.

The doorway will be so lovely when the wisteria fills in and it will smell wonderful. We have one that starts near the house and goes through all the trees to the front fence. It's the only flowers my goats can't reach! I'm loving your new channel!

Love it. I miss my mother so much. We had a little 5 acre farm. My mother was a widow with 5 children 10 months to eight years. We raised chickens and had truck patches to sell vegtables at the market. It was back in the 50s and 60s but still very hard. She also made all our clothes. I never remember her sleeping.

Oh, to have been able to smell the perfume of the lilacs, wonderful choice for cottage gardens.

I am loving these videos. You prune wisteria in the 2nd month, February, to 5 buds and then again in July, 7th month to three buds this will make it flower. Just remember 2 and 7. Am so pleased to see you working away on the garden with the support of the shroos. Stay safe.

Alex, when placing a ladder put the bottom 1 foot out for every 4 feet up. You won't have to lean in so far to work and there is less chance of the bottom slipping . The second rule is to keep your belt buckle between the side rails.

Thank you, Joseph, but we have lived in the countryside our entire lives and know all about predators. The pen is for daytime use only and quite sufficient for what we require. We're also very capable of building anything we want ourselves.

I love the smell of Lilacs. In the U.S. I'm from Mackinac Island Michigan. Every June they have a Lilac festival. If your ever over this way you should go. You would love it. Oh on Mackinac Island there are only vehicles for emergencies only There are horse drawn carriages for everything else. That and bicycles.

I got a giggle from when mom bent over and all the zip ties fell out of her pocket. I can relate to that all too well. Love your videos!

Don't hesitate to prune wisteria. I used to live in a tall old Victorian house that had a wisteria vine that started at the base of the north wall, and it climbed all the way across the roof and halfway down the south side of the house. In spring when it bloomed it was beautiful, the lush green leaves kept the house cool in summer, but they need frequent cutting back to be stopped from taking over. The rose probably needs a repotting or being planted in the yard. How exciting with all the new plants you are getting 🌹

It might have been easier to cut the wisteria down and train it from scratch.

You twist wisteria and each plant has a particular direction that it grows either right or left. You could put a high trellis on the wall of the building. Look at the pole or branch from the base (from the direction from which the vine is growing). Native wisteria, Wisteria frutescens, and Chinese wisteria, Wisteria sinensis, twine from left to right - clockwise, and Japanese wisteria, Wisteria floribunda, twines from right to left - counterclockwise.

Alex and Gail, lilac is one of my favorite scented flowers, along with wisteria & roses...lavender as well. It's inspiring to see you two ladies showing the world that we can tackle all sorts of challenges and rise to the occasion. DIY is so my jam, but at 73 with a health issue, those days are few and far between. So watching you tests my "chill" as I find myself trying to help via the screen. Good job, ladies.

Down one side of our yard we have lilac bushes. There are 100s of bushes and in May and June they smell wonderful. They grow and spread very fast. Every spring we have to go down the front of them and cut down all the new growth. If we don’t our entire yard would be lilacs. They would take over.

I so enjoy watching you both work on your property. Be careful on that ladder Alex, put it closer to the house, the farther away the bottom step is from the wall, the easier it is for your weight to make it slide out from under you, especially on a gravel surface. Boy schwoo is trying to impress the girls eh? When his tail feathers grow in he’ll really be a handsome dude.

Where I am at the wisteria can be very invasive although the flowers are beautiful and smell terrific, they can grow spreading their roots all over your lawn the stems and trunks can get as big and bigger than your thigh and as tall as a 4 story building., and it can choke out your trees, hopefully it doesn't grow like that where you are. They were planted back in the day to create baskets and furniture with, they would be tied up following the design of the furniture they were intended for. Lovely flowering trees! Your rose bush was rootbound I would guess. Better to plant it in the soil, and work old coffee grounds into the soil about 1 1/2 inches down into the soil to help it grow, and depending on soil old banana peels too, it gives them a extra boost. at least here it did for me. I grew quite a few for the farm state fair when I was a young teen and won a few blue ribbons for them. and the cultivation of some black roses. Your shwoos are so beautiful, my the male loves to show off doesn't he? :) Oh if you ever wanted to see what or rather how thoe wisteria can be in the south USA I also follow THE OLD BYRD FARM which as it turns out a distant relative of mine. He has battled the wisteria for a long time. If you watch the beginnings of his channel you will see them before he was able to get into the farm house. I love the flowers myself, very beautiful

I would love to see some of the insides of the farmhouse. I have never seen inside or outside of a Scottish farmhouse. It looks so charming!

I have a giant wisteria on the side of my house as well. I call it (and the stray mint plants in my garden) “apocalypse weed” because we’ll all be gone after the zombies get us but the wisteria and mint will be just fine lol. That stuff is amazing 😂😂

Japanese lilac is extremely fragrant . The plant going over the door grows very very fast and can become a pain in the .

I would think twice about covering that gutter above the door. Run the vine under the gutter so the plant doesn’t disrupt or clog that water running. It’s going to look amazing with those beautiful flowers growing around the entrance

Never fails...we always some how run out of something to stop a project you're really wanting to finish!🙄Lol Alex, you put in the time and effort on separating all the vines and it's going to look beautiful when it's all plush, green and blooming with flowers, can't wait to see it! The Lilac Gail brought back was so pretty and I bet it does smell lovely. Funny how we only go to the store for a couple of items and come back with twenty...naught naughty!🤣😂 Hope the zip ties have come in, are y'all going to have one end of the pen covered, not covered at all or completely covered in case the Shwoo's want to get out of the weather? A roll of that clear, heavy duty plastic sheeting would work. As windy as it gets, anchors for the pen will be pertinent. So excited to see it all come together!! Great job with the wisteria. I love lilacs. I have so many on my property and most I grew from cuttings. So pretty in the spring and the smell is amazing.

Hello, Enjoy watching your progress. Your Mom just brought home the pink lilac. When you mentioned putting it by the door, it came to mind...lilac and jasmin smell so good together. I had a bed with lilac,jasmin, and honeysuckle in it. I live in Missoula, Montana, USA. Lawrence

We had lilacs in England. They were huge, but one got destroyed in the hurricain. The smell of them was heady. We also had grapes, but we were in the south, and mum being Italian wanted grapes. We had cypress and laburnum, a weeping willow, lots of other plants for a small area. I wish I could send you a picture of my jungle here in Spain.

If you could staple some chicken wire for some kind of netting all along that molding then the Wisteria would grow to it and you wouldn't have such a hard job I think. It likes to attach itself along a simple space I have a huge Wisteria on my back deck that is up off the ground quite a bit and it's so beautiful what a good choice you made for a plant

Alex the vine looks good and basic bend to where you want it to travel...real nice work.

i had a lilac outside our front porch and walkway grew it for years it took forever cause we had rocky soil then last year it just died. i almost dried cause i wanted it to remind me of my grandma she had them all over our yard growing up. but it failed they smell so wonderful❤

A pressure washer would be a really good investment to clean up the brick on your house.

You may want to google how much space a lilac bush needs to grow. I know the roots are shallow but they will spread and I think they may need a lot more room than that pot . You may want to put them in the ground.

I have a giant Lilac bush at the foot of our front steps. It grown so fast that it' needs trimming all the time

Hang a chain high above the door over to the wall bracket that is already in place for the vine to grow around. Then you can train it as it grows and not have to cut it. I have enjoyed all your videos! All the best to you from Memphis, Tennessee, USA
