Sunningdale Level Crossing, Berkshire

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Date filmed: 12/09/2019
Route: London Waterloo - Reading Line
- Sunningdale Station
Location: A30 London Road, Sunningdale
Trains: Class 455 (South Western Railway) - 2:32
A rather massive level crossing located on the very busy A30 just beside Sunningdale Station within Berkshire. There are four road lanes in total that cross this level crossing - two lanes each side of a traffic island, so it is massively busy with road traffic since it is on a fairly major route. There are two LED wigwags each side, and one of those is situated on the traffic island on each side of the tracks, and there are also 2 additional LED pedestrian light modules to warn pedestrians where there are no wigwags. There are also very odd stands at the ends of each of the four barriers at this very angled crossing, which clatter a lot as the barriers raise and lower, and these are accompanied by four alarms which are far too quiet for a level crossing of this size on such a busy road, with two on the entry-side wigwags and the other two located on the same poles as the pedestrian lights. The barriers here also have a very strange section of no skirting, very much like the case with those barriers seen at the level crossing in Newhaven.
This level crossing has changed drastically since this video was filmed thanks to a full renewal. It is now controlled from Basingstoke as opposed to the now-closed Feltham Area Signalling Centre
Thanks for watching!

Interesting crossing! 🙂 I have never seen a level crossing located on a busy road before.

It certainly is a very interesting level crossing, and this is certainly at least one of the busiest roads I know with a level crossing on it 👍🏻👍🏻

Very intrigued at how this crossing works when your driving across it at 75 mph. are there like warning lights a quarter mile ahead or a half mile ahead telling you to slow down or something? Also, I've never heard the term "Dual Carriageway" before and I had to look it up so your a fellow American reading this, it's a railroad crossing on a freeway/interstate (although interstates don't exist in the UK for obviou reasons)

The road speed would have been reduced to around 30-40 odd miles per hour since the dual carriageway is going through a town. The highest speed limit I've ever seen on the approach to a level crossing is 50mph, as the road speed is often dropped due to safety reasons.

UK Level Crossings & Trains Channel I was in Wisconsin driving across the freeway and there are a few railroad crossings that you can literally go across it at 75 mph. I saw the Sheriff do it in front of me and so I just followed suit. Not saying I would do that over there but there are highway railroad crossings. However, down in Texas where I live, the highway dips below the railroad crossing and the railroad keeps going above the highway. It never goes over because there’s no telling how tall the train will be.

Restrictions eased back in May, and basically, non-essential travel is legal, so long as a distance is kept from others, and you return home the same day, which I have kept a close eye on throughout the past few weeks. I've avoided anywhere busy as a result. This video was taken back in September 2019 in case you were wondering, some six months before all this kicked off.
