Thanks for the video. I also prefer building from the shore onto the water. However, I do have a couple critiques about your design. First of all, I see no reason not to start off with all scrap metal walls. In the beginning, scrap metal is a much more reliable and abundant resource. In fact, until you get a tree farm it remains the most abundant material. Additionally, scrap metal is much tougher to destroy than wood. With metal walls, barbed wire and wall spikes are unnecessary. I often do start with a wooden bridge, because i don't really care if those panels get destroyed. They can easily be replaced. Secondly, I do all my defensive fighting from a second floor. So I put up half walls all around the second floor. Once the enemy gets ranged weapons, it's dangerous not to have half cover. I don't bother with windows on the lower floors for two reasons. First of all they can shoot through the windows and damage manufacturing items inside. Secondly, and this just started happening with the new 2.0 release, I've had enemies jump up from the water through my window into my base. That was bad. Once they kill you from inside, they will often camp your respawn bed. Not good. And finally, I've kinda stopped using a dock for the same reason. I've seen enemies jump up from the water onto the dock, even if there is no ladder. I certainly wouldn't put my research table, grill or anything like that outside on the dock. They are easy targets. I did like your use of wall spikes, but it still leaves a big hole for them to jump onto your dock. And one more minor critique. If you put walls out in front of your base, you won't be able to shoot the enemies attacking those walls from your rooftop. You will be forced to go meet them hand-to-hand. I try to avoid that. Thanks for the video though. I always appreciate alternative ideas for base defenses.

Really enjoyed your video. Great setup and to the point. You do not drag on about each item and such. I get that some die hards are probably mad about mods. This is a tutorial not a how to grind video. These are the way to show how. You did it very well.

How about on top of the civic center low roof? You only need to defend the low side, maybe the one corner you build your stairs up from your dock! And a machine gun or two will do that handily. If you want more time to get more kills, build a defensive dock further tiles away from wall?

The factions will tear through that the minute you reach guys with guns. it'll take all of about 10 seconds of gunfire to destroy a wall while you're trying to defend and then they're inside. If you build on the water, they will just attack your foundations and rip those out from under you (starting with the mutants faction). I'm still trying to figure out a decent way to defend and haven't do so badly so far but as you progress, it will get worse

We did this also and so far we manage to not lose anything and it is easy to sdefend it.

lol i built on top of the refinery,npc cant raid me. they cant destroy my foundation. but they can destroy my walls buts its cheap to replace anyways

I don't mind mods at all - play the game like you want and is the most fun for you, is my take on it. Speaking of mods - can you say where you got them from as I wouldn't mind using them for a creative world take on things to test different things. Like how to build defenses for mid to late games where most of all the attackers are ranged and just blast your base ignoring the spikes and shyte.

Just change the setting for survival under the modify tab, buddy. I do that because I don't want to run my ass off trying to get everything done. I want to enjoy my game not pretend it's my new job.

bad base, better u build on the rock and the only jop u must is shooting the enemys so u need no walls and other defens stuff - simple
