Awww thank you so much Joy💕 I've not used my oven since, ninjas are hard to come by at the moment, except for overpriced ones on ebay or scam websites where you'll never receive what you've paid for (I was stung but had paid by cc, so got money back thankfully!) so be careful! Many reputable places do email alerts when it's back in stock (currys, argos, qvc - not sure if they do email alerts but that's where I got mine after a tip off via a ninja fb group) there are other makes that have a dual drawer as well👍no bending down to look in the oven is a big bonus as well😄 atb kerry 😀👍💕

Probably some other people have suggested this but put that roast in upside down, cook the bottom first then flip it right way up for the crackling. Give the crackling a max crisp blast at the end. This works for me.

Yeah, that's what we do here in Denmark. Roasted pork is actually a traditional Christmas dinner here. Use coarse salt and rub it down where you have cut. Don't be shy with the salt. In a normal oven, we put water and bay leaves, maybe also whole pepper, in the tray. Check for water once in a while, don't let it go dry, it is needed for gravy. At half-time we turn the roast upside. YT video in English: "Den bedste danske flæskesteg med sprøde svær og brun sovs - Opskrift # 56". BTW, red vine is also good to the roast.
try cooking the pork joint without doing the max crisp , then when it is cooked, cut the rind off and put that in the air fryer on max crisp to cridp it to how you want it

I’ve got the same air fryer - you don’t need to do the max crisp - just cook with the probe and the crackling will just happen ! Best crackling ever - I put salt and pepper on mine - I still parboil my potatoes but not for long - makes them super crispy on the outside even with the shaking they don’t fall apart - try mixing some sausage meat into the stuffing mix / they hold Together better and taste delicious xx made my mouth water seeing your dinner

Hi Jason👋😀 thank you for watching, I'm so glad you find the vlogs helpful
I basically did exactly this last week before I saw your video. I used the probe in a 1.3kg pork loin joint, used the large protein setting, and Roast mode and set it to Pork - medium well Like you, i found that the outside was cooking too quickly, although for me while the crackling started off good, it seemed to go softer towards the end of cooking - so while the joint was resting, I tried to crisp it further on the max crisp setting - which worked to an extent. I wasn't sure how best to do the roast potatoes so I soaked, dried and seasoned them much the same way as you did, but I cooked them without the crisper plate, again using the roast setting for 30 mins, I added a couple of garlic cloves and a few sprigs of rosemary and used avocado oil as I only had extra virgin olive oil . Shaking them every 5-8 mins. They went nice and crisp in the Ninja but I found they quickly lost their crispness once the device switched off that zone. Most importantly though, I wanted to use the Sync setting - with this you set up the probe exactly as I did, and then set up zone 2 with the roast potatoes for 30 mins of cooking. According to the instructions the unit should start cooking the meat first and you should see "Hold" over Zone 2 while it waits for the meat cooking to get under way. What I found in my case was that it actually failed to start cooking in Zone 1 that zone displayed Hold, and the roasties were almost entirely cooked before zone 1 was switched on with the probe. I found the meat to be perfectly cooked, but as I said the crackling left a lot to be desired. Maybe I should have used Air Fry mode like you did rather than roast. I'm going to try it again, maybe with a joint of beef, and this time I'll wrap the outside of the beef in foil so it does not cook too quickly
@budgetcookinguk
10 ай бұрын
Thanks Mike, your comment was great, full of detail. I've never got the hang of sync, preferring to time it myself. I learnt to start the meat upside down first, chicken and pork- beef I don't buy very often but the probe is so good for this, wrapping in foil initially is a good idea I think. I'd go for the cooking option under the one I wanted, so for example if I wanted it medium well, I'd pick medium, if a little too pink you could cook for a little longer but if overcooked theres no going back. It cooks a little while resting as well, and you can ramp up the roasties while its resting. Plus drawer 1 is freed up for yorkies or more roasties if you've got a lot in Drawer 2. 😀👍sounds like you've got this sussed any way, good luck with the beef roast!!
If crackling starts burning, slip it off with a knife and keep it warm. Also rubbing with salt helps crackling.
Just found your channel and subscribed. 🙂Love a good roast dinner. 😋

No problem Darren, thanks for watching👍👍 I made the best roasties (so far) in the vid 'midweek gammon roast' where I par boiled 1st, then put in a drawer on roast for 15mins (whatever the preset temp on roast is - cannot recall👍) then 10 mins on max crisp (lots of shaking, I couldn't shake earlier because pots too soft from par boiling) times an approximate as it depends on quantity and how much you par boil. Trail and error! Congrats on getting hold of one🎉🎉
Its trail & Error Kiddo i have the same air fryer the Ninja AF451UK, but as you said its a lot of faff using that probe ,but I've honestly never used the probe and i guess i never will, i see a few horror stories on KZread were the probe has let these people down.Ninja ain't going to compensate you for failed probe cooking time , but that don't help when you have a room full of family all waiting for a Sunday lunch, but you managed to turn it around fair play to you i salute you for not going into panic mode, maybe they should install an anti panic button on all future Ninja air fryers Lol.

When using the probe and using the pre-sets, you can also tell it what you want tray 2 to cook at and for how long, then the Ninja works out the timings and starts try 2 so that it finishes when the probe hits the internal temp.

@budgetcookinguk

Not so much under, I had it on an old baking tray with wheels but have stopped using that, no discolouration at all underneath (on the worktop) the air vents are at the back and I move it out as there are sockets behind and do not want them getting hot, I use under wall cabinets and found I do need to keep the kitchen well ventilated compared to an oven being on as there def is more steam/moisture (depending on what's cooking) I do not mind that thou as, compared to ovens, AFs are so quick to cook food👍👍and cook them well
I found chicken breasts to be a bit overdone on the outside so I baked them for 25 mins and then just air fried for 5 mins to get some colour, worked a treat. Great to experiment, thanks for the vid

You're not wrong but if you're unsure how long something cooks for, it's difficult to use sync. Being new to it at the time, I had to guesstimate cooking times, judging by looking at it rather than say sticking Drawer 1 on for 30mins and drawer 2 on 20mins, press sync and hope for the best 🤷♀️once cooking times are established, sync prob would be a good function - I've still not used it. Probe is good👍airfryers are great imo

Best way to get crispy crackling.. 1) Boil kettle 2) Score fat lengthwise , with a razor blade or REALLY sharp knife 3) Pour just boiled water over fat to help open up the cuts 4) Dry joint thoroughly 5) Rub olive oil on to fat surface 5) rub salt well into cuts in fat Cook as air fryer suggests. 😊

Why didn't you put the potatoes in at the same time? The idea of the duel zone is that the air fryer will hold 1 side while the other side cooks. Once the second side is ready to start cooking, it will then begin. The point of the duel zone is so that you don't have to calculate when to start cooking a second food item. The air fryer does it automatically so that both foods finish it at the same time.
@budgetcookinguk

That only works if you know how long something takes to cook, the AF doesn't actually 'know' this as it all depends on what it is and how much is in the drawer - whoever is using it inputs temp/time etc. I've never used sync and find that it doesn't make a difference as I know how long food takes esp now that I've been using it for over a year, that vlog is very early days when AF cooking was very new (for me) plus 1 drawer sitting with food sweating while the other cooks doesn't appeal to me. You did ask😂👍

I am looking at buying this AF so been doing a bit of research that’s all. The one I am looking at (same brand and everything) comes with a cooking guide.
