Okay, hearing that the endgame is tied into the story and such and that there's an actual damn reason to grind endgame is all I needed to hear Josh! That was the biggest problem I had with Rise, basically the "Saitama" problem. You're the strongest you can be, the most powerful, yet there's nothing to really wield that power against. With Sunbreak's apparent endgame... Oh yes.

Yep. After Valstrax I ran out of things to do. The event quests never drew me back in. Heck I didn’t even care about the Apex monsters since they offered nothing of worth to actually want to keep fighting them. World even in its base form kept me coming back due to having more rewards to fish out of it (the armor variety in Rise I found to be paltry compared to World and the cutscenes featuring my character just as anemic).

@@alexkogan9755 Rampage quests didn't do it for me. Apex versions of monsters not having their own weapons or armour sets, basically killed my drive to keep playing after Allmother Narwa. Cool that some event quests came but emotes aren't it.

The thing I'm most excited about besides playing it for myself is watching cottons reactions to it all.

I'm already vibrating so hard I'm creating a little dent beneath my chair from the sheer excitement, and your review just made the dent on the floor twice as deep from how much the hype got multiplied. But in all seriousness, I'm actually really excited that it's gotten so much more difficult, because Rise was fun but not really challenging, and because of my health problems I didn't really even get to enjoy Iceborne when it came out, so I'm so happy to hear that Sunbreak would provide me a challenge on day one that I can actually enjoy with my renewed health! so close now. soon. I was already really excited for Rise. Knowing the difficulty, and more importantly the end game is there makes me extremely excited. Also, the end boss being better than Shara? That's a high bar. Shara was incredible. So now I'm even MORE excited. I can only get so excited before I break, Josh.

I've been through FightinCowboy and Rage's reviews so far and both have praised the final boss as one of, if not the best in the series. If the datamines are telling the truth about the armor, that's also true from a gameplay perspective, with some absolutely ridiculous gear...

Rise has been my introduction to monster hunter as a whole and I adored it! So as a newbie I gotta say... Having the monsters absolutely wreck my shit is my favorite thing about the game!!! Sure beating a monster first try is rewarding but to beat it AFTER it's beaten you mercilessly dozens of times? You can't get better than that!! It's so so so SO damn rewarding!! It was a little sad how most of the HR monsters went down so easily which killed my motivation to play.. But hearing all this good talk of MR and how it kicks your ass? SIGN ME UP!!!

If you play on switch you should give Generations Ultimate a try. Yes you loose a lot of the quality of life stuff and fight in zones but it's worth it. You'll get wrecked once you hit G rank, shits rough but so fun. You'll have to deal with the hunter flex, basically you can't move when you drink potions you have to wait for a flex animation. It's always fun to get knocked out of the zone into a loading screen mid fight though it does give you a second to heal up and eat. If you do try it one thing you need to remember, make sure you always throw a paintball at the monster. Nothing sucks more than spending 30 min going zone to zone trying to find the damn thing

If that’s true then I’d be so happy. Rise was my very first Monster Hunter game and I immediately became attached to both my cat and my dog. I want them both to be as good as they possibly can, I plan on going through all of Sunbreak with them regardless though.

I was constantly pausing nad unpausing when you were looking at the armour and skill and the ones you looked at look like they'd be fun to mess around with like Espinas' Foray. but overall great to hear sunbreak is looking to be more involved with endgame than Base Rise. Base Rise is great, its just only had 2 updates within 2 months of the games release then drifted on with 1 event quest every week and yeah outside the Apex emergency events not that challenging. great to hear that likely not the case now

Love the review! Love the Mh content so far. On the subject of fashion hunting I'm heart broken to see layered weapons not make a return, as I made them half of my outfits.

I only played for 4 hours or so last night after its midnight release before I was ready to pass out, but even that beginning was a pure joy. The changes to the older monsters starts with the very first one...some of the moves it pulled out were totally unexpected, and it was much faster than earlier variations. The fun starts right from the beginning. I cannot wait to dive back into it now and see what I come up against. Long live the Hunt!

Hey guys, I only have one question. Are there any monsters that haven’t been revealed in trailers or leaks? The small roster is the only thing keeping me from getting it on day 1 release. Otherwise, I might just end up waiting until most of the post launch monsters have been added to the game to buy it.

The roster is about the same when iceborne was released. Amazing amount of variety and the first update is only a month out. Sunbreak will definitely cover you until then

@@TheSwoon69 sunbreak has a lot more variety than iceborne, true, but if you mean simply the launching roster size, iceborne's is more than 50% larger than sunbreak Sunbreak -> 17 new large monsters Iceborne -> 27 new large monsters (later adding 8 more making it 35 total)

Depends how much you care about quanity over quality. The monsters on offer are of great quality which is better than getting a ton of monsters that all fight similar to one another. It's like playing Tri/ TriU where the monster quality outweighed the amount in the game. GU was awesome with a massive roster but many monsters had similar attack patterns which you easily got the hang of.

@@WisdomAkpan211 Yeah sunbreak's base roster addition is more in line with 4U's and GU's base roster addition.

I am so hyped now. I loved Rise but it never "kept" me like the other games did, though that could also have been due to life creative things happening, but it did feel too easy as a vet. So it became more of a hop on, casually beat the crap out of some monsters, unlock Crimson Glow, beat it up for 2 hours, get it's armor, make a build then hunt every now and then for like a small break. So hearing about Sunbreak dealing with those issues I'm really excited. I miss being an obsessive hunter XD. And as a GS main since the beginning of hunting time, I've always kept your reviews/commentary on the game as the "go to" on if I'm going to have a blast. Super excited.

I appreciate how hype this review is without any spoilers!! 2 more days!! I cannot wait!!!

Awesome review!!! I’ve followed your channel for Elden Ring; keep up the good work👍🏾 I want to give a different perspective from a MH noob. Rise was my first, I’m no stranger to hard games as a Souls vet but that was what kept me from MH World. I didn’t feel I’d have the time to invest to really enjoy it as I just wanted to play Bloodborne and DS3 (the latter as my persistent online game). I beat Rise but never ventured further past Magnamalo. I’m just now starting it back up as I’ve bought the dlc but am realizing just how much game I have to play to open the new stuff. It’s been fun and tough as a great sword user fighting the last monsters so for me the game is hard and full of content. I plan to not rush but just get there to the dlc when I get there. Anyways the point I’m making is that as a first time player, Rise is more than enough for me. 60hrs for the main I think. Curently grinding Magnamalo for the full armor set is fun (he’s an awesome monster). Plus I finally beat that fiend Rathalos after 3 tries: didn’t have fire res armor. I’m ecstatic hearing from a vet that this is possibly the best so I’m looking forward to getting gud and enjoying this as my online Switch game :)

This may be a dumb question, but how are you getting the PlayStation buttons on your prompts? Pc?

Please please let me know so I can avoid other spoilers. Can I layer all my weapons or is it still stuck to rampage?

Question if your allowed to answer! Since you mentioned rampage is being replaced, what happens to the rampage weapon tree? Does the new system present a whole new tree, or do the build off the rampage tree, or something completely different? And if so, are they still as customizable? in terms of the 'rampage' skills and layered weapons. Thanks Josh!

From my limited information there is something added to Rampage weapons called Rampage decorations, it's supposed to make them viable in Master Rank. But of course Josh can elaborate on that better since he played the game.

@@AscendantStoic From what I've seen in the info, Rampage Deco slots are on all weapons and let you slot in special Rampage Decorations. Rampage Decorations have the Ramp-Up Skills on them. So you could slot in Kushala's ramp-up in a Teostra weapon.

God I’m so excited, even though there are only like 3-4 new monsters on the roster, almost all of them are new to me because world was my first monster hunter game

stupid question but will i be able to play Sunbreak DLC from a different region than my game card? tho i tested out buying a cosmetic and it worked in-game, can't really say for sure and i need to know asap so i can refund

I avoided the demo. I want that raw experience and my word has the hype been getting to me. So excited to dig into this and you have only amped up that excitement with a promise of satisfaction.

That end game rank grind you mention.... may be accelerated when theres people to hunt with. The quest board can already drop you on a mostly done quest. Hell even worlds 'no one after 10min' was enough to limp a monster then sos with the quest basically done.

Damn it I can't wait any longer I'm so hyped ffffff

In regards to the slog to grind your MR, I'm positive they'll add an event quest down the road that gives you boatloads of MR exp just like World and Iceborne have had.

Hearing that the final boss is one of the best, you are including athal khar with that statement, before sunbreak had my attention, but with all that I heard in this review, it has my life captive for at least a couple of weeks (good thing that this expansion releases right after my exams, because I would be in big trouble if it didn't)

With every weapon getting a counter of some sort I feel like this is definitely one of the best MH games

I wouldn't be surprised if towards the end both the blood blight and the frenzy virus combine to create the endgame

More skill for elem/status and scaling boost for the weapons. Will raw finally step down from the meta?

I can't permanently agree with the 50 - 100 gap being a downside when not everything is in the game. Remember the true final boss in base rise was hr 50, which was added later, and then at certain breakpoints you had normal apex monsters, which was also added later until valstraxx hr 100.

I don't know why everyone complains about rise's difficulty. Apex zinogre was one if not the hardest hunt i've ever done. I just hope sunbreak will be balanced, getting obliterated by every single attack is not funny in my opinion. (Base rise was easy, something slightly harder wouldn't hurt)

Well, it's easily harder than base world, but it's still in the lower end in terms of difficulty in the franchise.

@@jackgarcia5926 yeah this base worlds difficulty was almost nonexistent until the ats and kulve arrived. Thats in a perspective of a veteran, people that started with world of course have it way harder, same goes for rise and people tend to forget that. That’s also mainly why a lot of people cry about rise being too easy and world being way harder.

Looks awesome, and I'm excited. Gore was a surprise to me, whoops haha. But it's ok because playing tomorrow.

Are there monsters that were kept in secret and not shown in trailers in the game or no there isnt just a yes or no is good and I cant wait for tommorow to finally play Sunbreak.

Should I hold off playing sunbreak until I get to HR 100 and beat valstrax (HR 75 atm) or should I just hop into sunbreak and go back to valstrax later with, presumably, better gear?

you have no idea how i was about the tail of that gore in the replay. i was like "but cut the freaking tail!"

I miss the elder melder from world as a backup for getting some rare monster drops instead of throwing myself into the same quest like 30 times

I don't know that anything will ever match the sheer pleasure and variety of the Relic-System Loop. Being able to adjust the monsters and map combination of your end-game loop is outstanding! I will say however, having Rank 10 upgrades paths for EVERY weapon tho... will bring SB close!
