This is a great bread machine, we had one we used so much that the coating of the pan was wearing off, I contacted Sunbeam to order a new pan (the machine was still good), they responded and said a new pan was not available, instead the sent me a whole new machine for free. That is how a company should be.

The reason why the yeast isn't supposed to touch the liquid when using a bread machine is because coming in contact with the liquid will cause it to activate, and you don't want it to activate before the machine is ready to mix. It honestly doesn't matter much if your going to make the bread right away. It's really only an issue when using the delay timer, since you don't want the bread to overferment.

I bought Sunbeam bread machine 15 yrs ago and never used it. Your video makes it looks simple. During the Covi-19 lock down, I’ll make my own bread. Thanks for making this clip!

Thank you Mike, you gave me confidence. I watched a couple after you as I wanted only to make dough for crispy rolls. Advice: I notice they took the pan out of the machine to add the ingredients. This makes sense, so the ingredients don't spill into the machine. ;-) Fingers crossed. 🤞

Tip: after it does the last "punch down" or "knead" you can take the dough out and take the paddle out so you don't have to fish it out after it bakes :) (DON'T remove the dough after the final rise or it will deflate again).

I've had this machine for years. It is a GREAT machine, even though it might be the least expensive. I always monitor the dough ball in the beginning of the cycle to make sure it's not too wet and sticky or too dry, and add tiny amounts of flour or water as needed until the ball is pretty round and shiny, and especially not sticking to the sides. It comes with a hook to remove the paddle after you've shaken the loaf out of the pan. I let it cool about 30 minutes on a wire rack from the oven, which fits over the kitchen sink (no need to buy a special cooling rack). Tip:. Slice the bread on a cutting board with an electric carving knife. You don't mash down the loaf and the slices can be as thick or thin as you like with less mess.

I just use my Sunbeam bread machine to do the kneading and first rise (#8, dough setting). Then I take it out, pan it, let rise again and cook it in the oven. You get more bread and it is lighter. I can't knead bread anymore because of arthritis so the bread maker is great. I also use my own bread recipe (get 3 good size loaves) I would never part with my bread maker and if it breaks, I will certainly be getting another one.

Yes that's so true, I would not use salt but I'm a salt free diet and sugar is what it needs, plus I think the heat would kill the yeast too hot it wouldn't rise too cold you won't have a high rise.

The yeast is a live organism and in dry form, like you use in breadmakers, it is dormant and when it comes into contact with liquid it activates it and begins working, in other words begins to give off the gasses that cause the bread to rise. If it comes into contact with the water too early, for instance if you’re using the timer or the wholemeal setting and the ingredients are sat there for a long period of time, if the yeast is activated too early, it will loose its effectiveness or die when the machine is ready to begin making the bread and your loaf either won’t rise at all or it won’t rise to its full potential. Hope this helps.

I follow the instructions on the jar of yeast and proof my yeast first, that means adding it to water and waiting until it foams, then add it to the recipe. I could never understand why the bread machine instructions say to add the dry yeast last, kinda defeats the purpose of a fast rising dough.

Because it is a programmable machine with delay option. the yeast has to remain dry on top of the flour. I have used a black&decker bread machine for decades now , I have just purchased this new model. I dont expect to remain with the receipe coming with this new machine, I think it uses twice as much yeast as my older machine. so I'll eventually modify the receipe to my like.

Just saw your video a few minutes ago. I noticed that you did not use dry milk powder called for in the recipe, but you used regular milk. This is probably the reason your bread slightly collapsed on the top. I have a Regal bread machine from the 1990's and it still makes wonderful bread.

The reason you don't want the yeast to touch the liquid is that yeast will basically come alive when it reacts with liquid and begin working. It doesn't really matter if you're going to make the bread right away, but if you want to set the timer so that you will have fresh hot bread in the morning, you need to keep it from touching the water.

@@casualmike8395 flours aint flours. . . cake flour - bread flour - strong bread flour. One difference is the protein content. Flour from soft wheat has less protein (6-9%) & is good for pastry & cake. Hard wheat has more protein (10-15%) which leads to more gluten and is better for breads. The more protein the stickier the dough. Whole grain flour has more protein and more fats so doesn't keep as well (fats will oxidise & taste nasty).
