I hope Tokushoryu knows how many foreign fans watch sumo because of his yusho. 😊 And Ura's sumo and perseverance brings happiness to us, too.

Coach Sendagawa/Tokushoryu and Coach Izutsu/Akiseyama looking cute in their track suits! I know Ura gets the most attention (deservedly so - I love his unexpected "brand of sumo," pink shimekomi, and down-to-earth personality, too) but can we also talk about how inspiring Tokushoryu's yusho was from several years ago?!

Win or lose, Ura makes all of sumo better just being there and competing. His courage, perseverance, passion, and humility are an inspiration. Regardless of rank, Ura will always be Yokozuna to me.

Also the names of the coaches as well. Sendagawa-san (Tokushoryu) and Izutsu-san (Akiseyama) are familiar faces but many of the other coaches like Inagawa-san, Wakafuji-san and even Kise-shisho aren't seen much in broadcasts outside of Japan.

Definitely not qualified to answer, but my guess would be due to risk of injury. It’s a tough sport as is, so eliminating unnecessary hazards in training seems logical.

This type of dohyo is called "Sara dohyo." This reduces the cost of building dohyo and also prevents potential injuries by edge fighting
