Summer Solstice in Latvia | Celebrating Midsummer with a local family ☀️ longest day | Jāņi

Join me to get a sneak peak into what it's like to spend Midsummer / the summer solstice with a local Latvian family. The longest day of the year is a magical time so sit back and join me on this exclusive look into how Latvians celebrate Midsummer ☺️ .
We dance, sing, eat cheese and drink beer as we watch the sun set on the longest day of the year. The summer solstice is a traditional pagan celebration celebrated on the shortest night in the year, in June and damnnnn it is AMAZING.
Big thanks to Elina and her family for welcoming me in and letting me share this incredible experience with you.

You know Haley, the entire time I was watching this video and the summer solstice ceremonies, I kept thinking back to this video by Latvian folk group Tautumeitas for the song "Raganu Nakts". It has a bit of a Polynesian feel to it, but they are all Latvian! Raganu Nakts is also around the time of the summer solstice (they mention Jani a lot in the song). The video can be found at: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqebsZeIhLjZgrg.html

Be careful, this has "inevitable human sacrifice via stuffed bear" written all over it. Big folk horror vibes.
