Northern Michigan is pretty perfect. It has everything you want and none of what you don’t. Taxes and real estate are still relatively low, yet it’s steeped in cuteness, culture, and things to do.

I think you captured the feel of northern Michigan. The houses, the big sail and the wine apart from the fact that the whole area, when not sandy, is so green. It certainly is the destination for a low key vacation with lots to do, eat and drink. Are you heading up to Mackinac or down to picturesque and fun Frankenmuth? Whatever, looks like you'll have fun and we'll get another great travel vlog. Cheers guys.

My family and I vacation in Michigan every year. If you have another chance to explore Michigan, I encourage you to check out Sleeping Bear Dunes and the neighboring town of Glen Arbor. The Dunes are an awesome hike and very scenic. Charlevoix is a super quaint town with a beautiful harbor and interesting architecture. Ludington has great beaches, a state park, inexpensive rental properties, and an amazing ice cream shop at House of Flavors. L Mawby is our favorite winery (sparkling wine: our favorite is SEX, because it truly is better than most human experiences). Other cute towns on the northwest coast include Empire, Frankfort, Manistee, and Pentwater. We typically travel to Michigan late July-August because the water is much warmer. Mackinaw City is a perfect city to stop in before going to the Upper Peninsula. A must-see UP experience is Pictured Rocks. Please keep encouraging travel through the US; I think it is very underrated. Thanks for shedding some light on my favorite domestic vacation spot!

There is now 2 cruse ships doing the great lakes. I was in traverse city late july 2015 for an international archaeology underwater field school sponsered by a north Michigan college. I had never been to that area before and fell in love with it. My wife an me have been back twice since then and went to the same winery, lighthouse, fish town and sleeping bear dunes. Scuba diving in the lake was awesome, and the tag line for the lake is "Shark free and unsalted". They didn't mention that TC is a big surfing town, who would of thought.

Hi! I don't usually write on KZread Comments but i felt the need to do it this time. I just want to congratulate you about your work. You re real travel bloggers, you don't travel because its cool or looks good on camera, you travel because you love learning about new cultures, you can see it in the knowledge you have about the places you go, the routes you do and the places you go, you don't go to the places only with the best pic for instagram but to the most interesting ones. That kind of humanistic love to different cultures its amazing, its true content, something that its getting difficult to find on youtube. While other youtubers have change the paths perverting their channels, growing a fake manipulative "sentimental involvement" with their audience, and making their blogs just a gossip magazine with travels on the background, you have maintained your honesty, respecting your audience and giving them the content they deserve: true and deep cultural travel content. Maybe im guessing too much but maintaining this honesty must have been difficult, seeing other people growing with more dishonest ways. So.... Thanks for everything! Thanks for your travels on my beautiful country (Spain) and one of my most beloved places on hearth (besides my own land Valencia) the Basque Country. Of course you re invited to visit Valencia, its a beautiful land with a great rice cook and beautiful landscapes. Bye!

That town where The Nick Adams stories are referencing is called Petosky! Its also the spot where he wrote The Sun Also Rises, specifically in a little bar down the street from the Stafford Perry Hotel. Its a great little city, and in my mind a must for any new Michigander, especially in the fall.

Actually, it's been more than a couple of decades since I've been back there.:-) You guys might consider visiting Ann Arbor (when school is in session) and Saugatuck (a quaint artsy village) and Holland (lots of microbreweries and eateries, etc.) and nearby Ottowa Beach and then maybe go up a little ways from there to Grand Haven, as well. Oh, one other thing, Interlochen Acadamy of the Arts isn't far from Traverse City and is sort of an international place for kids from all over the world to go and learn more about their craft and make life-long friendships. From what I understand, it's mostly a summer camp but also has year-around stuff going on, even in the winter months.

I'm so excited you guys got up to Michigan! You should definitely go to the Finger Lakes in New York as well, good wine and lake life. I'm looking forward to finding out more about the state I somehow find myself living in. Also, little bit of an lol on the temperate climate. The rest of Michigan at least is an absolute toss up constantly with weather. Awesome guys!
