IMO, much of the reason it works at Purdue is the fact the most players stay through senior year. I think the type of player recruited by Purdue sees the value in being a Boilermaker for life, not just while they are in school. It's not that Painter refuses to go to the portal, it's because he hasn't really had to. Painter also has a knack for finding players who aren't necessarily sought after by other elite programs but have certain character traits, and turns those recruits into high level team oriented ballers. I could be wrong. I'm just a dude on a couch.
