Summer Cicada loud sound song
Cicadas are insects in the order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha (which was formerly included in the now invalid suborder called "Homoptera"). Cicadas are in the superfamily Cicadoidea. Their eyes are prominent, though not especially large, and set wide apart on the anterior lateral corners of the frons. The wings are well-developed, with conspicuous veins; in some species the wing membranes are wholly transparent, whereas in many others the proximal parts of the wings are clouded or opaque and some have no significantly clear areas on their wings at all. About 2,500 species of cicada have been described, and many remain to be described. Cicadas live in temperate-to-tropical climates where they are among the most-widely recognized of all insects, mainly due to their large size and unique sound. Cicadas are often colloquially called locusts, although they are unrelated to true locusts, which are various species of swarming grasshopper. Cicadas are related to leafhoppers and spittlebugs. Cicadas can cause damage to several cultivated crops, shrubs, and trees, mainly in the form of scarring left on tree branches while the females lay their eggs deep in branches.

How cute lol
He’s a handsome guy 😊 Our yearly ones here in Illinois are green/camo and are called “scissorGrinder” cicadas because they sound like scissors opening and closing. The 17-year cicadas in our area are more colorful and really loud like this guy.
Why do they do this 24/7
Like a drill
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...
Now multiply this by 10,000 on one tree lol
It is help to know which insect noise
Beautiful species - wonder which species it is? Looks like an Indian one? ‘Gaeana Atkensoni’
Sounds like drill machine
Is that Borneo or something?
Does the stridulation come from the scraping of their wings, just like grasshoppers or crickets do ?
@Lykoloo

Cicadas do not stridulate. They have a pair of specialized organs that produce the sound called tymbals.
@SethGueko2008

@@Lykoloo Ok thanks, are those organs located beneath the wings or somewhere else ?

It depends on the family of cicada, most have them on the underside of the abdomen but some species have them on the sides right behind the hindwings. You can see a clear picture of them in this video: /watch?v=al3vr3OsCsc
There like drones and signal towers also they weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh

Which is it? One video says they emerge every seventeen years, a news cast said it happens every 13 years? And I am reading in the comment section that people were hearing WHAT I AM HEARING RIGHT NOW TODAY, a year ago… five years ago… how do cicadas emerge so sporadically if they are only supposed to emerge on a 17 year cycle?
@matteo5564

It depends on the species, periodical cicadas like the Magicicada sp. emerge every 17 years in specific areas, many others may became adult in just 4 years or so. You may hear cicadas every year because there are many species apart from the periodical ones which become adult earlier, like Neotibicen spp.
I got afraid of it when my aunt grabbed it cuz too loud
I hate that sound. So loud and annoying plus when you hear them you know it's really effing hot.
