Summer 2015 NYC Watch Trends Part 1 - The Best Rubber Watch Straps Reviewed & Where To Buy Them

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In the first of a two part series, I look at the latest fashion trends I see frequenting the wrists of my fellow New Yorkers in the big bad city.
Today's episode I take a look at rubber straps with three examples of the main types of rubber used along with their respective pros and cons. From the most affordable to the luxury end, there is bound to be something to please every watch enthusiast and aficionado.
For the best place to buy all the rubber straps shown in this video I totally recommend USA based "Holben's". With their impressive extensive range, outstanding prices, free fast shipping (within the USA) and quality service there is NOWHERE better to buy your watch straps of all kinds.

Another great presentation TGV. I have bought watch straps from Holbens via their Ebay store and have found them to be professional. The item is always sent straight away with online tracking so I can follow where it is. The only down side is that basically it takes ten working days to reach me here in Australia. Regarding watch straps, a recent purchase I made was the Hirch Accent rubber watch strap and it is great, worth every dollar. I will have to check out some of those Bonetto Cinturini vanilla scented watch bands next. Cheers

I own a Hirsch Robby, and although it's an extremely well-constructed strap, it takes a long time before it's bendy enough to comfortably curve around your wrist. For the first few months of owning one, it left indentations on the side of my wrist even when worn loose. It took a few months for it to soften up and maintain a nice curve. One weird note, you note at 6:40 about the "gorgeous" smell of the rubber. That's a treatment at the factory in Italy to give it a vanilla smell, to mask what would otherwise be a bad odor from the natural rubber.

Really enjoyed this video. I actually steer away from rubber straps, preferring a stainless steel system, but I ordered an Otium watch and it arrived just a few weeks ago. I thought I was going to get sick when I opened the box and looked at the rubber band, but then I picked it up and was amazed. It is soft and flexible. The underside has a slightly raised matrix which allows the wrist to breath and not become all sweaty. When I wear it I don't even know it is on my wrist. Just that comfortable. And that is why your video had me glued to the screen. I could completely relate to what you were explaining about your bands. Thanks for sharing.

I got to love the $100 strap on the 200$ watch. It actually works very well. I was looking at the same strap but in red for my seamaster. Not sure about the rubber though. Might have to go with the leather black and red stitching. Great video as always. There is very relaxing yet very captivating watching you talk about watches.

That Hirsch is really outstanding. Absolutely bellows quality, and aesthetically very pleasing as well. It is pricey, but OTOH investing in a high quality watch and pairing it with a cheesy strap/bracelet never really made sense to me. I suppose one could argue that the strap or bracelet is primarily an accessory to the star of the show, but I think that a well-matched combination can completely alter the character and appeal of the watch in some cases. That specific strap on your Fligthmaster illustrates that in spades - they were made for each other.

I got a Bonetto for my squale 20 atmos, and it was almost too wide at 20mm. Really had to force it to fit between the lugs, despite being the right size. Made installation and removal a nightmare. Great quality though. Cut it too short (lesson learned), and wound up with the HR equivalent and I'm not complaining. Lower build quality but still adequate and installation was much easier, and being that it's silicone, it turned out to be way more comfortable. Color is also more rich than the Bonetto for some reason.

Super late to to the party but caoutchouc is a natural rubber derived from latex. Does that not make it particularly not hypoallergenic. I believe that you can have a potentially dangerous reaction to it if I am not mistaken. Also haven't natural rubbers been superseded in many respects by synthetics. I fear very much that this Hirsch may not be as good as the price would imply. That said I am not expert on the topic so all I said may be wrong. Please correct me if that is the case.

I admit that the $107 strap may be good for some people, as it is scratches-resistant, etc... so it can last forever. But the good thing about the resin straps is that they are CHEAP, and one can change them from time to time to give new, non-boring look to the same watch. So isn't it sometimes better to buy $7 straps? If it is scratched or boring, you can replace it by something else a year later...
