The problem is that they're trying to play solos that are more metal than punk. Had they been playing actual punk, I wouldn't have complained. But try to play a metal solo and fail hard at it, then I will definitely complain.

Considering Dave left and then Tom entered... and then Dave just returned, and seeing them now so chill talking about their solos and how Tom plays stuff that Dave wrote, or Dave saying "Damn, I shouldn't have left" dunno, I think those things were my favourite something in the video.

Reminded me of the Foo Fighters, with Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett. Pat said when he rejoined and met Chris it was awkward at first but they were both cool about it and got along really well. Same with Iron Maiden too. Most bands have additional touring guitarists anyway, so why not just have three permanent guitar players instead 😄🤘

The only thing BLink 182, Good Charlotte and others have in common with Sum 41 is Punk. But it stops there. I myself am a much bigger Blink 182 fan than I am any of the others but I can recognize that Sum 41 is very very very close to Metal. If you actually break down their stuff, they get very close to a Metallica and Bullet For My Valentine type tone at times. Heck, they even get close to a System Of A Down type tone. And Sum 41's lead singer is much better than Blink's and Good Charlotte's etc. But In my heart I will always be closer to Blink 182's discography.

Making your leads into rythms and phrasing correctly and effectively are the most important aspects. Just because you don't want to practice and are happy where you're at, doesn't mean that's the be all end all of your potential. Keep practicing, it WILL benefit you in the end. Even as simple musicians, trying more things, and practicing is very crucial. Rhythm AND lead can both be incorporated into the beat, and if used correctly, can give chills up your spine, not only inspiring yourself, but making you WANT to do more great things, so practice up sum 41!! No crutches!! Not dogging on anyone, meant to be inspirational! When you're satisfied with what you do, you don't go any further! Anybody can play like a virtuoso. watch the guy playing solos with his two FEET cause he has no arms, you'll get what I'm talking about!

Absolutely agree, finding chord progressions and making rhythms was my thing in my band, but I wanted to also do leads as most of the time I wasn't very happy with what the lead guitarist came up with, I also wanted to do harmony solos with him to add a little more show, so I started practicing more scales and I'm amazed at the progress I made, I was completely sure that I had hit my limit as to how much or how good I would get, couldn't be more wrong. Now my compositions are much better and intricate, my chord progressions are more interesting, I can do lead and my speed is also better. Never stop pushing yourself and never stop practicing.
