Sultans of Strength | Wrestling Culture In India | Documentary About Desi Kushti & Dangals

Ойын-сауық

Sultans of Strength - A Documentary about the Desi Wrestling Culture, known as Kushti or Mud Wrestling.
We travelled into the heart of India to know more about the Warrior Monks known as Pahalwans - Indian Mud Wrestlers.
The world we found was very different from what is portrayed in the glitz and glamour of Bollywood movies such as Sultan & the upcoming Aamir Khan starrer, Dangal.
These wrestlers are a far cry from the glitzy WWE style of wrestling that most people are accustomed to. Even Khali The Great, started off by learning to wrestle in his village "akhada," which is basically a mud wrestling pit
See the video to get a glimpse of the simple and almost ascetic life styles, that these Indian wrestlers lead, employing simple calisthenics, a vegetarian diet and natural body building techniques to train their minds and bodies for combat.
Give the video a thumbs up, if you like what you see and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE for more great videos!

    Ok... these guys not eating meat has nothing to do with the science of the digestive system and metabolism.. the reason they do not eat meat is entirely cultural (do not get culture confused with science. Which is fine. In all actuality the protein in meat has a more complete amino acid profile than all/ any vegetables and is more bioavailable for building muscle (IE strength).

  • @BloodFeather

    @BloodFeather

    6 жыл бұрын

    @Dalton Philips you are uneducated on the topic; if you mix any type of dairy with for example potatos you already have a higher bioavailability of amino acids /protein combined with a complete amino profile which is superior to meat; also 99% of meat is low quality / full with hormones to begin with; and thats ignoring that meat in general fucks with your health => earlier death lower heart health etc etc etc there is no reason to eat meat at all and counter to you arguing cultural reasons in their case put a mirror in front of you and realise that the only reason you murder innocent animals for pointless reasons is your own brainwashing by culture; if you in any way were aware of what science says you would know that there is no net positive and only net negative things stemming from meat consumption and this is not even addressing environmental issue that comes with animal consumption

    Ok. way to assume. lol I am fairly educated on diet as it relates to athletic performance. Unlike those who preach vegetarian is the only way I do not prescribe to this line of thinking. Their are many diets that can work for performance. These guys not eating meat has more to do with their culture than actual science. It is also important to note that meat is a luxury in most places in the world. Due to this access to meat would be an issue for the men in this video. further more the staples of their diet are inexpensive grains for the most part (IE. rice) which is an excellent complex carbohydrate. These guys would be much more impressive if they had greater access to nutrition. (Not just vegetables but also meat.) veganism is great but lets not pretend it is the optimal diet. (maybe morally optimal?) The same statement applies to vegetarianism. Here are some articles explaining the importance of complete proteins and benefits of eating clean meat I also included some articles about the various diets of today's top athletes and olympians. www.gssiweb.org/en/sports-science-exchange/Article/sse-58-the-role-of-red-meat-in-an-athlete's-diet www.lisamiddleton.com.au/thoughts-entries/2015/10/25/five-reasons-why-red-meat-is-good-for-athletes www.businessinsider.com/diet-nutrition-advice-top-athletes-2016-7#ultrarunner-dean-karnazes-who-recently-ran-50-marathons-in-50-states-in-50-days-relies-mostly-on-a-diet-he-calls-a-mix-of-paleo-raw-pescaterian-and-mediterranean-5 www.vox.com/2016/8/11/12421352/what-do-olympians-eat-diets

    They get their max push ups and pull ups and squats up. I am not talking about Hindu push ups, I am talking about deep push ups, between three chairs, all the way down and up. They get their push ups to 300 non stop, pull ups to 60 non stop. Squats to 500-1000 non stop. And then they bulk up to 250-300lbs, while maintaining those numbers. That's how they get jacked. They get their relative strength to elite level, then they increase their bodyweight while maintaining that same relative strength, and end up building absolute strength to world class levels... That's how guys in supermax Cali prison do it as well. Age old military hypertrophy technique. Never fails.

Not only in hinduism but in buddhism and jainism also eating meat and killing innocent animals are avoided. But there is no hard and fast rule.

    Why can't you like both though? You don't have to choose. The problem with wrestling is that it does not have a strong marketing behind it. Like Japanese martial arts, BJJ, American boxing or UFC does. Sponsorship will allow more people to make this a full time profession and attract more people towards the sport. Look what wonders it did to Kabaddi. IPL also did wonders for cricketers who would never make it to the national team. It allowed more players to focus on the sport without worrying about earning a daily living. We need something like this in wrestling. Indian government is utterly useless and we cannot rely on them to do anything right.
