what i couldnt understand was that after Hurrem died, it was a fight for her ring. That the ring was believed to be a symbol of power when it really was a symbol of love. Hurrem's ring had nothing to do with the power she achieved.

Mihrimah shouldnt be part of the honerable mentions. She was part of the Sultanate of Women. In fact, she was the most powerful Imperial Princesses. After Selim II ascended the throne, he gave her the title of Valide Sultan.

What i felt is Kosem was the most powerful one... she was the regent for long time... Hurrem always had Sulthan Sulaiman to back support her, and she died before becoming valide sulthanam... But on the other hand kosem she became more strong after Sulthan Ahmed's death. Safiya Sulthanam was also one among the powerful i guess... Dont know much about Nurbanu and Turhan...

@@zaidqamar9884 how did Hürrem fight more than her? If Hürrem fought with Mahidevran, so Kösem had the same with Mahfiruz, according to history. If it's about Ibrahim, Kösem fought with Kemankesh, they were never friends if you read more about it. And Hürrem hasn't even become Valide Sultan. Hürrem was also blamed for ruining traditions, starting destruction of the empire and putting weak Selim on the throne instead of Mustafa who was loved by common people. She was also quite "disrespectful" to all these rules, even though diplomatic. I think both Hürrem and Kösem are great women and achieved a lot. But I wrote only about Kösem here. I don't think Kösem achieved less than Hürrem in any case.

Hurrem is the Legend even after 600 years, considered as the most powerful Sultana in the Ottoman Empire . She broke the glass ceiling for royal women and started Era of Sultanate of Women. Her story is an inspiring look at how one woman can bring so much influence and change to a leader and an empire, even if husband stands behind you! Hurrem’s power in the Sultan’s court grew stronger with every passing year. As Navagero wrote in 1553, “there has not been in the Ottoman house a lady that has had more authority.” Her authority showed not only in her firm grip over Suleiman’s heart but also in her ability to compete with the male rivals in Suleiman’s court, and to be a skillful sovereign and ruler. Suleiman the Magnificent repeatedly came to her for counsel and even appointed her as his STATE ADVISOR in foreign affairs, which allowed her to act as a diplomat with foreign powers. Also, it’s recorded by history that she was official Divan member, attending meetings, voting, listening to males and taking part of the meetings “under the dome”, which is called the Kubbealtı. Only men were doing this before her. Hurrem also had a seal, that allowed her to correspond to MALE rulers and kings around the world. Before that females of the empire were only allowed to correspond with female rulers (like empress or queen : Russia and England) or princesses. Hurrem acted as a diplomat with foreign powers through her letters using the title of Shah (queen), from the day she became first and only wife of Padisah in Ottoman history. It is seen that his signature is always referred to as " The State of İsmetlu Hürrem Shah Sultan Aliyyetü'ş-Şân". Hurrem also ruled the empire when Sultan was away on wars, signing important documents on his behalf and receiving diplomats and foreign ambassadors. Hurrem was a keen advisor to Suleiman in political matters, particularly when he was absent from Istanbul on his numerous military campaigns. She regularly sent letters to the Sultan, in which, in addition to expressing her great love and longing for him, she also informed him of the situation in the capital and of any events that required his immediate attention or action. In being thus vigilant, Hurrem protected Suleiman’s interests and contributed to the success of his reign. There is no doubt that Suleiman trusted her more than he did his male advisors. Hurrem is known to have been very generous to the poor. Not only did Hurrem Sultan exercise unprecedented influence on state politics as Suleiman’s chief advisor and diplomat with foreign powers, but she was also fully devoted to philanthropy. Hurrem’s charitable work surpassed any of Ottoman women in volume and geographic reach. She gave inordinate sums of money to help the poor and needy, she built and sponsored endowments (waqfs) in cities like Istanbul, Constantinople, Mecca, Medina, Jerusalem, Damascus, Baghdad, Konya, Edirne, Bulgaria. Her major charitable projects include: ✔️Haseki Sultan Complex in Istanbul-(Haseki Hürrem Sultan Külliyesi) that consists of a Friday mosque, a soup-kitchen (imaret), a madrasa, an elementary school (mektep) and a hospital(Haseki Dar al-Shifa). The latter is still used as a polyclinic by Haseki State Hospital. ✔️ Two Quranic schools ✔️ Women hospital near the women's slave market (Avret Pazary). ✔️Hurrem Sultan Fountain in Istanbul, Sultanahmet area, a landmark in Istanbul and favorite spot for tourists for taking vacation photos with beautiful background. ✔️ Hagia Sophia Hurrem Sultan Bathhouse (Ayasofya Hürrem Sultan Hamamı)- receives guests and tourists daily and is now operated by Haseki Tourism Group. ✔️ Khaseki Sultan Complex in Jerusalem, that included a mosque, large khan (inn)-caravanserai for travelers and merchants, a 55-room-shelter for pilgrims, a bakery for the conduct of charity services for the poor, flour mills, water mills, soap factories, an area with cellars, public toilets, stables and a soup kitchen “Haseki Sultan Imaret” serving more than 500 Jerusalem's paupers, al-Aqsa's needy worshipers and seminarists. Most of the buildings, apart from the lodge and the mosque, are still standing today. The charitable soup kitchen called “Takiyah Khaski Sultan Al-Imara” works to present day, with two meals still being served to the poor and homeless according to Hürrem's original recipe! ✔️ A caravanserai, mosque and soup kitchen built in the city of Svilengrad , Bulgaria, the name of which was Cisr-i M Ustafa Pasha at that time. ✔️Charitable soup kitchens “Haseki Imarets” in Edirne, Mecca, Medina, Konya, Baghdad. ✔️At one point Hurrem even sold her own gold, pearls and jewels to pay for Janissaries’ (Ottoman soldier’s) boots and a hike in their pay. Mihrimah- valide sultan to her brother. The first and last sister of a sultan to hold the title, the most powerful imperial princess. She kept nurbanu limited in harem even when nurbanu got the valide sultan title, mihrimah continued as valide aunt.

These women were captured from their homelands and enslaved to these men who happily killed their own brothers and sons for the throne. I wouldn't call this "leaving everything behind," I don't think they had much of a choice but to play the cards they had been dealt in life, captured for the whims and amusement of men.

Hurrem sulatana & Kosem Sultan are my favorites 😍😍😍

The best of Sultanas were the ones who were obedient and trained under the strongest of Sultanas. Like how Nurbanu was trained under Hurrem Sultan and Turhan was trained under Kosem Sultan. I mean some of the very best in history.💯💯💯❤❤❤

My favorite sultana is Hurrem and Kosem their beauty is universal.

I wish soon, Tim's production will recreate a series focusing on the Sultanate of women, could start during the near end reign of Valide Ayseh Hafşa Sultan as their precursor down to Hurrem, Nurbanu, Safiye, (also with Handan and Halime) to Kosem and then Turhan

I would prefer the era of nurbanu-mihrimah as valide sultan-safiye then mihrimahs death and safiye against nurbanu. Turhans life wouldn't hurt aswell, it's possible she was poisoned sooo it would be interesting with so many Princes alive and sultanas exiled to old palace.

@@birb5571 Far from accurate to be honest, Ottoman women in 16th Century should be wearing loose fitting kaftan and pants, rather than European style dress, the European dress only became popular among the harem ladies during 19th Century after Empress Eugénie of France visited the harem. You can look up for Lady Sadberk Museum to get a glimpse of Ottoman women fashion throughout time, also there's a 2010 Turkish movie called Mahpeyker Kösem Sultan, which also featuring some pretty accurate costumes.

Hurrem was the strongest haseki sultana. Kosem was the strongest valide sultana. In series we lived hurrems life fully and enjoyed every part of it.. sadly they didn't show us much on kosems, a lot of important parts were cut... That's why hurrem in series was the most favourite.

For me, Meryem/Hurrem has the swag among all these girls.. she portrays Sultana Hurrem very well, that no one can leave with it after she left the series. though the old hurrem was good. But overall Meryem/Sultana Hurrem was my Favorite among these women, I watched Kosem as well, the story was great but I'm looking for something from the characters the same feeling I had while watching the Magnificent Century. But sad to say kosem was worth watching but I don't have any eagerness to stay awake in the middle of the night just to finish the episodes.😝 I love all the characters from the magnificent. I laughed so hard every time hurrem smirk, when she craves for quail because she’s pregnant, I was smiling every time all the plotting of valide and mahidevran bounce back to them. And I cried so much when Suleiman ignored sultan hurrem because he was with another girl.. I love all the characters from the Kalfas and agahs to all sultanas, sezahdes, sultan Suleiman to hurrem, they were all fit to their characters. They gave me the feeling to hate and love them while watching the magnificent. 🤣 it’s bad that I had watched Magnificent Century first I should watch Kosem first so won’t have this comparison while watching kosem.😏

But first I watched kosem ep 1-30 and there safia sultan always mention that she want to be like hurrem I thought safia sultan is a powerful sultan but she admire hurrem she want to be like hurrem therefore I'm curious how powerful hurrem would be this lead me to watch magnificent century hurrem I'm so excited it's 10 times worth to watch than kosem. Because the story of hurrem is amazingly beautiful while kosem story seems like they don't prepared well for the next episode. I noticed that every episode makes different story. Their rival is interesting but so annoying that they make that drama directly without plan. Not so worth to watch. Therefore I stop at ep30. But hurrem drama just wow I'm speechless director plan it perfectly from AtoZ. I'm still watching I reach ep 93 I'll continue watching till end😍😍

Future Sultan start to give their favourite concubine/ wife the “Haseki” title because of Hurrem. Even Valide Sultan does not have the title Haseki before. That shows how strong and powerful she is despite the fact that women arent allowed to rule the Empire.

Hürrem could rightfully be called the "Mother of Sultanate of Women", or that all of her descendants' wives and mothers were her disciples, and Kösem was her most powerful disciple

Most of the buildings, apart from the lodge and the mosque, are still standing today. She was strong only because of Suleiman, while Kösem was strong with and without marriage. She was the mother of two sultans, loved and respected by the Ottoman people, the complete opposite of Hurum. Correct your information.

The ring never existed in real life. kosem herself sat on divan, on the imperial throne and ruled the empire, three times great valide sultan, the strongest sultana ever existed in ottoman history. Kosem broke the most important rules, not hurrem. If you want to make it more clear then it goes that way: hurrem was equal to valide sultan power as haseki Kosem was equal to a majesty power and even above him.

Hurrem, Safiye and kösem were the most influential Sultana and beauty wise Ayse Sultan (kösem's son Sultan Murad's consort) seemed the most beautiful one for me. Many doesn't know Ayse Sultan cuz she was portrait in season two for a short period because she quit the show. They kind of wanted to put her as the Villain but almost everyone felt sorry for her and hated the main character Farya. If you search for Ayse Sultan you will definitely get stunned by her beauty.

Originally a new position was created when Roxelana married Suleiman in 1533. But until 1595, this position did not have much power. They used to advise the Sultan but they did not have much power. But they had trusted men at court to ensure that their children could sit on the throne after the Sultan's death. But everything changed after Mehmed ascended the throne in 1595. Mehmed was not very good at managing the empire. So his mother controlled everything. From 1585 onwards, Safia had acquired considerable power in the harem. After Safia this power goes to kosem. No worthy ruler sat on the throne after Ahmed. Although Murad ascended the throne in 1623, he was very young, so all power rested with Kosem. But when Murad became an adult, he usurped all power from his mother Kosem in 1632, returning the empire to its pre-1585 state. But after Murad's death in 1640, Ibrahim who was mentally retarded sat on the throne. As a result Kosem came back to power. However, in 1651 Mehmed's mother Turhan killed Kosem and took that power herself. Mehmed was young so the power went to his mother Turhan. But as Turhan was not as skilled as Kosem in managing the empire, he retired from the post in 1656 and abolished the post, and as Mehmed was young, all powers were transferred to the vizier Mehmed. And through this, the sultanate of woman ended

She broke the glass ceiling for royal women and started Era of Sultanate of Women. Her story is an inspiring look at how one woman can bring so much influence and change to a leader and an empire, even if husband stands behind you! Hurrem’s power in the Sultan’s court grew stronger with every passing year. As Navagero wrote in 1553, “there has not been in the Ottoman house a lady that has had more authority.” Her authority showed not only in her firm grip over Suleiman’s heart but also in her ability to compete with the male rivals in Suleiman’s court, and to be a skillful sovereign and ruler. Suleiman the Magnificent repeatedly came to her for counsel and even appointed her as his STATE ADVISOR in foreign affairs, which allowed her to act as a diplomat with foreign powers. Also, it’s recorded by history that she was official Divan member, attending meetings, voting, listening to males and taking part of the meetings “under the dome”, which is called the Kubbealtı. Only men were doing this before her. Hurrem also had a seal, that allowed her to correspond to MALE rulers and kings around the world. Before that females of the empire were only allowed to correspond with female rulers (like empress or queen : Russia and England) or princesses. Hurrem acted as a diplomat with foreign powers through her letters using the title of Shah (queen), from the day she became first and only wife of Padisah in Ottoman history. It is seen that his signature is always referred to as " The State of İsmetlu Hürrem Shah Sultan Aliyyetü'ş-Şân". Hurrem also ruled the empire when Sultan was away on wars, signing important documents on his behalf and receiving diplomats and foreign ambassadors. Hurrem was a keen advisor to Suleiman in political matters, particularly when he was absent from Istanbul on his numerous military campaigns. She regularly sent letters to the Sultan, in which, in addition to expressing her great love and longing for him, she also informed him of the situation in the capital and of any events that required his immediate attention or action. In being thus vigilant, Hurrem protected Suleiman’s interests and contributed to the success of his reign. There is no doubt that Suleiman trusted her more than he did his male advisors. Hurrem is known to have been very generous to the poor. Not only did Hurrem Sultan exercise unprecedented influence on state politics as Suleiman’s chief advisor and diplomat with foreign powers, but she was also fully devoted to philanthropy. Hurrem’s charitable work surpassed any of Ottoman women in volume and geographic reach. She gave inordinate sums of money to help the poor and needy, she built and sponsored endowments (waqfs) in cities like Istanbul, Constantinople, Mecca, Medina, Jerusalem, Damascus, Baghdad, Konya, Edirne, Bulgaria. Her major charitable projects include: ✔️Haseki Sultan Complex in Istanbul-(Haseki Hürrem Sultan Külliyesi) that consists of a Friday mosque, a soup-kitchen (imaret), a madrasa, an elementary school (mektep) and a hospital(Haseki Dar al-Shifa). The latter is still used as a polyclinic by Haseki State Hospital. ✔️ Two Quranic schools ✔️ Women hospital near the women's slave market (Avret Pazary). ✔️Hurrem Sultan Fountain in Istanbul, Sultanahmet area, a landmark in Istanbul and favorite spot for tourists for taking vacation photos with beautiful background. ✔️ Hagia Sophia Hurrem Sultan Bathhouse (Ayasofya Hürrem Sultan Hamamı)- receives guests and tourists daily and is now operated by Haseki Tourism Group. ✔️ Khaseki Sultan Complex in Jerusalem, that included a mosque, large khan (inn)-caravanserai for travelers and merchants, a 55-room-shelter for pilgrims, a bakery for the conduct of charity services for the poor, flour mills, water mills, soap factories, an area with cellars, public toilets, stables and a soup kitchen “Haseki Sultan Imaret” serving more than 500 Jerusalem's paupers, al-Aqsa's needy worshipers and seminarists. Most of the buildings, apart from the lodge and the mosque, are still standing today. The charitable soup kitchen called “Takiyah Khaski Sultan Al-Imara” works to present day, with two meals still being served to the poor and homeless according to Hürrem's original recipe! ✔️ A caravanserai, mosque and soup kitchen built in the city of Svilengrad , Bulgaria, the name of which was Cisr-i M Ustafa Pasha at that time. ✔️Charitable soup kitchens “Haseki Imarets” in Edirne, Mecca, Medina, Konya, Baghdad. ✔️At one point Hurrem even sold her own gold, pearls and jewels to pay for Janissaries’ (Ottoman soldier’s) boots and a hike in their pay.
