Suhr Reactive Load - Celestion G12-65 Speaker Impulses

Музыка

A quick & dirty demo working out some Celestion Impulse Responses from the G12-65 Closed Back group.
The amp used is a Marshall JMP-1 w/Voodoo Amps Platinum Modification into a stock Marshall 9200 Dual Monobloc Power Amplifier directly into my Suhr Reactive Load and into my Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt interface.

Hi Steve, was it very loud when you recorded? If not, did it still feel good? I'm living in an apartment - can make some noise but not much (and thinking about getting the RL). Cheers

My Suhr Reactive Load boxes are running into my audio interface and into my Mac. In my DAW I'm running it through speaker impulse responses. The volume is wherever I have the volume on my studio monitors set to, or I can go without the monitors and listen through headphones. I live in a residential neighborhood, mostly older folks, houses very close together. I can play and record two cranked up 100-watt tube amp heads together at 2 in the morning and no one can hear it. One of my go-to old school crunch tones consists of a Bugera 1960 Infinium (which is basically a clone of a late 60s 100 watt Marshall Plexi-style head with cascading gain mod) and a 1986 Laney AOR100. If you've got any experience with either of these you know they're ridiculously loud amps. This is a little video I shot on my iPhone. The audio is from the studio monitors. You can hear my pick on the strings, which is a good indication that the overall volume isn't very loud. kzread.info/dash/bejne/f2iAtsGyhZipaaQ.html BTW - a few weeks after this video I put in new power tubes, had all the filter caps replaced (they were the originals from 1986 so it was waaaaaay past time) and had the amp biased. It sounds 100% better now than on the video. For another example, watch this video - it's a cranked up Bugera 1960 Infinium. It has a Master Volume but that isn't engaged. It's full on Marshall (well, Bugera technically) Plexi roar. I have my studio monitors turned off and am listening through headphones. Totally silent. In fact I believe I recorded this at around 3 in the morning. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qZ6OrZekfK_Hdbw.html BTW - the effects you hear are added in my DAW. The feel is amazing - it's pretty much identical to how it would feel to have a 100 watt Plexi mic'd up in an isolation booth and to play, listening on the studio monitors. Blows amp modeling software out of the water. Speaker/cab impulse responses have gotten so good that you can get hyper-realistic recording sounds using IRs. Pete Thorn says he often records with a mic'd tone and a direct tone and often chooses an IR over the micd tone because it just sounds better. I concur!

Great demo! Can you go over your settings on the Suhr RL and your interface into your DAW? Do you use XLR out or 1/4” TS? Where is the level knob set to on your RL? Do you have raise level into your DAW via a line input gain level? Thanks!!

It’s been a long time since I’ve used them but I believe they are the Celestion IRs.
