Sugru saves the day | Washer-Dryer Gasket Fix | How to-DIY @PragueCR

A Sugru how-to. My first Sugru project was a huge success! After a baby shark bit a chunk out of the bellow gasket in the front-load washer/dryer, Sugru was able to repair the leak! Amazing! Sugru bonded to the 100% silicone gasket saving me time and money.
How-to/DIY video from @PragueCR - let me know what you think! Did this help you on your project? Had you ever heard of Sugru before? Should I copy one of the awesome Sugru hacks (maybe make a cord organizer using LEGO?) or make up my own?

I bought a hydroseat flange fixer for toilet install at lowes. It has a blue rubber gasket. Simply cut a smal piece of rubber off with scissors to cover the insidr opening where seal is missing and attach with electrical tape. Voila! No more leaks. I do keep a small piece of psper towel between the drum and washer door. Its been dry for months. Keep the flage on hand im case that piece needs to be replaced in the future but my repair has lasted 8 months. I dont overload the washer. This fix takes less than 5 min and most of that time was finding my scissors.

Still working? I bought a used LG washer and I was thinking that inside hoses are leaking, but later figured out it is a hole on the gasket which drips a lot of water in the floor from the bottom of the washer. Thank you for the video.

I worked in the repair business, a single strand of hair will cause a leak. If anything you should have kept all the glue on the inside and not on both sides, but glue will leak through unless patched.

This was my first ever project with Sugru - had I stopped messing with it around 4:15, I would have been done... just after that I say "oops" as I accidentally pull the pieces apart & then have to do the repair one more time (after which I say "I'm going to stop messing with it" - so that I don't pull it apart again!). Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for posting this. I have an almost identical tear in mine tonight, culprit was the metal end of a tape measure, and will give this product a go. I have a bosch front loader and don't think I have finger strength to replace the seal and trying to avoid the £80 plus call out fee plus parts.... See the part is 10-20gbp.

Probably gravity... as the drum spins the clothes can’t go up past around 10 o’clock, so they fall down to the 6 o’clock position - and once in a while I guess they pull the gasket away from the door.

@@praguecr4006 Makes sense....and that is always where the tears occur. I am going to try again and see if leaks a second time. I have two packets left, and if still leaks may put on inside/back. But perhaps another problem? I did ask about this on a pay site called "Just Answers" I subscribe to and response by two techs was as follows: "Hi my name is Nathan and I am sorry to hear you are having an water leak on your washer, if the door seal is torn then the only solution is to replace the door seal. I am only telling you what I have found after many years of experience, glue might work for awhile but it is not the correct repair. If you want to take a chance of a damage floor because of a door seal then use the glue. You will not have to replace the door only the seal." and the other said: "The seals are specially made fro such appliances with proper fitting to prevent leaking. A glue will most certainly not prevent leaking and it doe not matter how strong it is. I have seen the product you mentioned and the problem will not be fixed by this product. You will have to buy a new pair of seals that will totally fix the problem. Other than that, you will only make a temporary solution with such glues and the problem will occur again." Hold long since your repair? Curious why you had leaks the first two times but not after that? Thanks. Cute child : )

I second what the responders say. Sugru did not work for me. I could not replicate the exact thickness for the repair to seal and create the right suction. And i was pretty accurate. Sugru just didnt work to thinness required to replicate which is essential. It did stop some of the leak and was slower and I was ok with this. Stiff joints and lack of strength in hands stopped me replacing seal myself. I loved the product but not for washing machine seals.

Well, I used the product. Not as artfully as you, but the washer still dripped from the bottom of the glass. The seal had a couple tears similar to yours. Curious that you stated you still had leaks the first two loads. Any idea why? Maybe I did not put on right; however, I used several packets. I will have to examine later tonight (too hot to go in the garage right now!) Thanks!

First time I did it didn’t hold though I’d be sure this was because I bought a split pack of sugru from eBay and it didn’t have the best before date on it/ didn’t cure properly. Second time I done it was 6 months ago using the proper bought from Amazon stuff and it’s held up perfectly. Let it cure for at least 2 days before using the machine. Longer if the machine is in a cold place and you’re applying it thick. Edit: the machine has been used at least 20 times a month for past 6 months on hot/ medium/ cold washes at high spin too.
