    Thanks JC but these are quite advanced formulas, so you may want to consider learning this as part of our Certificate in Colour Cosmetic formulation, as you also need to formulate to suit the eye area (sensitivity) and microbial control/checks (safety) as well as colour safety selection for eye area use, so it doesn't suit a 10 minute video format. This is better taught in greater detail, please contact us: info@personalcarescience.com.au hope this helps in the meantime, happy formulating!

    The Institute of Personal Care Science I like to use coffee because I read somewhere that it has great antioxidants. But I found that the coffee crystalises after a while. Would you say that coffee is not a great ingredient for this type of scrub or perhaps you could do one with coffee? Thank you for this video

    Thanks! this is very informative! I know this is an older video but I was wondering. :) I always heard you couldn't mix water and sugar as the water could cause the sugar to evaporate over time. What's your thoughts on this? Is it because there isn't much water present in the product?

  • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401

    @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Tara, salt and sugar are both water soluble - so if you add them to either water or a water based product (where water is the continuous phase) then they will dissolve in the water. In this video, one of the products I create is a w/o emulsion that only contains 5% water - so the water is not only in too low an input for the amount of salt/sugar you want to add to dissolve (there is 15% salt or sugar to be added), the water is also the dispersed phase. The other 2 products don't have any water present. Please contact us for the full formulation and method of each product: info@personalcarescience.com.au Happy formulating!

    In the water/oil balm why don't you use a preservative since there is water in the balm?

  • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401

    There is such a low water content the formula is self preserving and therefore doesn't need a preservative. Please email us for full details, info@personalcarescience.com.au - it won't grow micro-organisms as there is not sufficient water to enable growth. Happy formulating!

    Hi Belinda. I'm curious as to why the sugar isn't included when you are adding up the ingredients to get to 100% in formula 1 and 3. I've always been taught that everything needs to add up to 100.

    Because the amount of salt or sugar you use will depend on the size of the container. You don't mix the salt or sugar with the product, you fill the container with it (Its too hard to fill otherwise). Please email us for full formulation, method and supplier details: info@personalcarescience.com.au we provide this free. Happy formulating!

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Jabby, you don't need to sterilise or sanitize with these formulas as they won't grow micro-organisms - just make sure they are very visually clean (no dust or particles) and you'll be fine. For water based products you should make sure you supplier provides perfectly clean packaging and check using microbial swabs, you can learn how to do this properly with our micro unit, please email info@personalcarescience.com.au for details of this unit if you want to learn this properly, hope this helps in the meantime, happy formulating!

    There is less than 5% water in that formula and very high input of salt/sugar - which means there is insufficient 'available water' for micro-organisms to grow. Its a way of formulating to create a self-preserving formula - in other words, a formula without sufficient free water to enable growth. Happy formulating!

    The Institute of Personal Care Science Thank you for your reply...and so quickly! I did note that the water content was low, but thought any water needed a preservative. The salt makes sense to me now. Didn't know sugar would prevent microbe etc growth. Interesting. I'm moving back to Australia next year & love making my own products, & considering doing a course like yours, so may be in contact in the future. Can make body creams (basics) but would love to make my own skin care. My skin is very temperamental with irritation & breakouts being a problem. I'm thinking a course like yours may help with finding a solution for myself? Thanks again.
