SUFFERING WITH GIANT RAINBOW HIGH | Custom Doll Repaint by Poppen Atelier

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I want to try to customize this new big Rainbow High doll (24 inches / 60 cm), hoping that the makeover would go better than the previous Rainbow High repaint. But it looks like everything went out of control again.

The bubbles aren't that bad, They add to the effect in my opinion. Her eyes feel more dreamy because of them. But if you'd like to avoid them in the future just run a lighter flame over the resin before curing. Just a quick sweep usually brings bubbles to the surface and pops them. Sometimes you need a little extra assistance from a toothpick, but usually the lighter does it.

I’m not going to lie, the bubbles in the resin look like little sparkles or glints of light in her amazing eyes - I think it actually adds to the illusion of a lifelike appearance, but I know that every artist is the harshest judge of their own work! I’m glad that it wasn’t something that kept you from pushing forward with the doll, or we would have lost an outstanding piece of art 🥰

She is absolutely adorable!! I definitely wouldn't call the eyes a disaster, they look beautiful, but I know how you feel. Getting bubbles in your resin when you've tried so hard to get rid of them is super frustrating. A couple things that have helped me: try curing in even thinner layers and try to cure slower. If your lamp has a 90 sec slow cure button, try using that or just hold the lamp higher up to start and bring gradually closer. It seems to me those kinds of bubbles pop up when the resin heats up too much or too fast. It's at least worth a try!🤷‍♀️

As a manicurist, I agree that quick cures on thicker layers can result in bubbles. I don't know if you could use a lighter to pop them between layers on a doll face, but suuuuuuper thin coats and a longer curing time may well help

Wow, oh my heart!! You did such a phenomenal job on this doll, as always!!! I did not see any bubbles in her eyes, even when I zoomed in. None of us are perfect, we all have our flaws, even ones only we can see. When I was a young girl learning how to quilt, my grandmother told me, we never correct a bad stitch. If I miscount, I always should leave it in because no one is perfect. Only One was perfect and by leaving that flaw in my quilt, it will remind me of the One who is. ❤

I think it would be cool to sculpt slightly closed eyelids on one of these dolls so there’s more lid space to work with for the eyeshadow

That is such a relatable artist thing to do. I don't know how many times I've messed up something, had a bit of a meltdown over it, and then gone "It's fine, only I'll ever notice this."

just remember that every artist sees the imperfections in their work whereas every viewer just sees a beautiful masterpiece. Take everything as a learning curve and never give up. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses but imperfection is beautiful. I love her and truly thinks shes beautiful, and even though you've pointed out her flaws i can barely see them. Once again proving that you as an artist will always see imperfections more than anyone else.

I hope you don’t give up on Rainbow High dolls because I personally love your customizations of them. The eyes of both have been really gorgeous and I love the proportions of the dolls better than Monster High.

For the eye bubbles, you could take a teeny drill bit and very carefully drill into the bubbles and fill the cavities left behind. Or you could carefully drill out the resin and fill it up. That being said, she looks amazing!

If you bring the uv lamp up to the eyes slowly, you may avoid some of the issues. Sometimes having the lamp too close the whole time cures the resin too quickly and causes problems.

Hey! Those eyes came out absolutely STUNNING regardless. I'm sorry it made you cry, I would have cried too. One thing I see a lot of resin crafters do to avoid bubbles is to a) pour from a height so bubbles dissipate on pouring and b) use a lighter over the uncured resin to bring bubbles to the surface and pop them! (Please help get this comment noticed so that we can help out our resident amazing doll artist!!) Sending love and hugs, Happy New Year!❤

The dress is so gorgeous! It reminds me of the brand Selkie that do these pastel dream puff dresses. And I am so glad you kept her hair! When you opened her my first thought was "it would be a crime to cut off that beautiful hair". Btw I cannot for the life of me remember you have done a doll like this before, so now I got to go digging to find it! I can only remember the Rapunzel one (I would still love to see a "proper" Rapunzel made by you btw! Maybe Dark Rapunzel from the TV show, that is very cool when she goes all evil :D ) Edit: Nevermind I got confused because I thought it was the huge one you had done before too, I remember now. And I commented then too that the dress reminded me of Selkie lol

Hi Maryna! I’ve been following you for awhile now and I’m such a big fan of your work! I would love to see you make Mirabel from the new Disney movie, Encanto. Or any other character from the movie! I was so happy when the movie got released, as Disney did an amazing job researching the culture of Colombia where I’m from. For example, the clothes each character wears in the movie represent the traditional dress of a different region in Colombia. Mirabel’s dress is inspired by the people of Santander in the north central part of the country, so her dress looks a lot like the girl in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i5ecwdZwebW8lto.html. Thanks as always for sharing your incredible work!

Poor Maryna! Don't worry, you're going to nail those eyes next time! They look so deep and rich, I think you should still be really proud of the job you've done. If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning anything! I'm so happy we can come along for the journey.🖤
