SUFFERING | EPIC: The Musical Animatic (Thunder Saga)

I’m so excited and loving the thunder saga. This one I was pushing myself to try out some new things with animation if you can even call it that. I’m working on all the animatics so next is Different Beast! Super excited and I hope you all enjoy!

    OHHHH MY GOOOOOD!!!!! The way he grabs for both her and the sword at the same time, leaning in for the kiss??? He lets her think she's won, that she's caught her prey, but she doesn't know she's not the predator in this situation!!! AHHHH!!!!! THIS IS SO GOOD!!!!!!

    My favorite parts where Odysseus pushing his hair back when he said he was shy 👉👈 and they way the Siren got closer so she could do stuff like grabbing his face or putting her arms around his neck. That's how i imagined it when hearing the song and im glad someone did it, as most people keep her away from Odysseus.

    There is something so much different about the way you draw everything in this animatic compared to others, its so much more... menacing. Something about it is actually way more insidious, the others are cutesy or you see the Siren getting visibly frustrated, But the way that there isn't even the play illusion in Odysseus like others show, you see the barely disguised venom. And I really like how yours ends, other have him like with a bow, or at a range, I always imagined the Siren jumped into his arms and he just shanks the creature, so maybe I'm biased since your ending adheres most to what was in my minds eye, but I really REALLY like yours!

    As someone who generally assumes the siren is lying about the lair of Scylla being the only way, I very much appreciate you showing her genuinely engaging with question, like it's a riddle she's invested in solving, and she's very pleased when she finds a solution. It makes it seem more credible that's she's telling the truth rather than simply throwing in one more lie in the midst of a charade to get Odysseus killed, and eaten. Quite liked how Odysseus maintains focus on the siren so he can read her lips even if he can't hear her, and the sword lying in wait and him reaching fir it at the end was an excellent touch.

    They animated it exactly how I imagined the scene. Might be my knowledge from the source material knowing there were really only 2 routes Scylla or Charybdis and Scylla was actually the one that would lose Ody less men.

    @@yuukinoyuki9064 Canonically, that's what's listed as the only way, but it seems weird that Odysseus of Epic would think the siren is being truthful about that.

    @@eowynsisterdaughter I mean, it's down to how you interpret the song. I interpreted it as the Siren was willing to tell Odysseus anything to get him in the water, but a lie would have been more risky. A reknowned sailor would notice if she told him to sail in the wrong direction or something. I also never interpreted it as Odysseus taking her at her word. He already knew who Scylla was and the cost of sailing through her lair. So to me this was a case of Odysseus couldn't think of a way home, but as soon as the Siren said Scylla's lair he realized - with his own nautical knowledge - that it was a viable path. He'd just never thought of it precisely because of the cost. Also, the Siren's beg for mercy in the next song. If I was Odysseus I'd have thought they'd have bargained with their knowledge if there was a safer route to take.

  • @eowynsisterdaughter

    @eowynsisterdaughter

    23 күн бұрын

    @@yuukinoyuki9064 It's more her saying, 'it's the only way', sure it's a way, which means it could theoretically be a lie while still being kind of true; didn't seem like a huge risk, and the siren is answering as "Penelope" not a siren. Odysseus deciding to go that way also, to me, reflects how he's in the middle of his ruthless villain arc. He could've taken longer to consider a different way or a different method, while snacking on siren tails, but he's currently relying more on expedient ruthlessness than cunning, and see's Scylla's lair as the fastest option. I do agree that he could've been gauging the validity of the route by seeing if any sirens offered a different way when he started slicing them up. Though they'd also be likely to lie at that point to save their own skins, even if only temporarily.

  • @yuukinoyuki9064

    @yuukinoyuki9064

    23 күн бұрын

    @@eowynsisterdaughter That's fair. The other way would have been to try and appease Poseidon or to try and beg Athena for guidance again. So I do think going with Scylla does show Odyesseus embracing Ruthelessness by risking his men instead of trying another avenue. I just don't interpet it as him foolishly believing the Sirens. To me it's not that he chose to sail through Scylla's lair, it's that he didn't try to outsmart Scylla, that show just how little Odysseus cares anymore. He could have kept the Sirens on board and used them to feed Scylla's heads. Or made fake men to hold the torches. Or tried to lure Scylla out. Or even just try and talk to her. But Odysseus was just over it.

    I think the very deliberate lack of emotion in Ody's face makes this animatic carry a lot more subtle emotion than others. There's a very clear but subtle disdain that Odysseus has for this Siren since he doesn't even entertain her comments with visible reactions and I really love it

    Okay I’ve seen a few Animatics for This song and I want to make one myself. But I want to talk about Odysseus Facial expressions. They are EXACTLY how I would expect him to look during this song. You gotta realize that at that moment he is in a “No Longer fucking around” phase. I don’t picture him smiling much during this song…I picture his face looking more serious. Contemplative. He’s talking to a Siren and he KNOWS IT. He’s trying to get information from this Siren and is going to KILL her after he has done so. He might pretend a Little Bit to make the siren believe he is falling for her trap..But really? This man is playing chess. He is the one setting a trap.

    1) this is absolutely fantastic, well done. 2) genuine question, why did you opt to have the "camera" shaking in some spots? I found it a bit disorienting, especially when coupled with the quick cuts. Not knocking the animatic in the slightest; this is still a huge accomplishment. I'm just curious about the creative decision.

    I think the shaking is supposed to mimic the waves. Odysseus is on a ship, after all.

    Hi Britt. I'm wondering how do you feel about the sire's pleading to Ody to spare them and after that Ody saying to cut there tails off and let them drown, do you feel bad for the siren's or pity. Do you agree with how cruel Ody acted.?? also very nice drawings.!!!

    You know when I first listened to it I sat there just mouth agape like….?! What?!! Ody??? On one hand I get it he just really is leaning into that monster energy but is it the sirens fault that their diet is humans? So I do feel a bit bad if it were me I’d probably let them go and threaten them or something to scare them. Also thank you!! ❤️

    @@brittpowwpixel No problem I thank you for replying. I asked the same question to other people and 99% was yeah they deserve it, they are monster's. That made me really sad because it's saw's that people don't know what is A REAL monster and that they don't have a lot of compassion for the other person.(Edit) The message too is very bad because the story want's to teach us to be ruthless to survive , which is A VERY VERY bad think to teach.

    I mean… on one hand, its good to show mercy when you can. On the other, the modern world has kind of perpetuated a very black and white view of morality. It’s either this belief that you should be kind to everyone and show endless compassion or this everyone for themselves. To be honest, I think Epic has done a good job of showing that it isn’t that simple. In my personal experience, I have a disability and people will show their true colors quickly. I abide by the rule of ‘start nice, but take no BS’. I will always start out the nice one who tries to help, but if someone else hurts me or someone I care about? Those gloves can and will come off. Never strike first, always strike last. After being sexually assaulted, facing a lifetime of discrimination, frequently seeing the ugliest sides of humanity, and constantly having to deal with some pretty awful people, I have found that you have to defend yourself if necessary. If you shy away from confrontation when it matters, you’ll find yourself completely screwed over and possibly seriously hurt. If you are too quick to confront, then you’ll just end up hurting both yourself and other people for no reason. You have to set a standard for yourself and others. Have enough self respect to both stand up for yourself and maintain your own moral values. The Siren would have killed him and his men. She and her friends were ready to attack him. Upon being attacked, Odysseus captured them. There’s no police to hand the Sirens to. No way to conveniently lock them up or keep them away for sure. So Odysseus did whatever was necessary to keep them from following him even if it meant they died, because they would kill him if he didn’t. As Odysseus said, the Siren wouldn’t show him mercy if the Siren and him had swapped places. If you are certain that someone won’t return your kindness and have good reason to suspect they will hurt you for it, then that person does not deserve your kindness. And if we’re going off “well. Humans are part of a Siren’s diet, so it’s not their fault.” Children were part of the diet of a mountain lion in my area once. That didn’t stop the city from having it hunted down and killed after it kept going after kids. It’s harsh. It’s cruel. It saves lives. I guess it really comes down to this: What are your morals for? Protecting your friends/family? Protecting yourself? Defending your actions? Making a statement? Would you rather save thirteen friends or twenty strangers? It would be altruistic to save the strangers, but no one is going to judge you if you only save your friends. If a stranger attacks you, but you manage to get the gun, would you shoot? It’s not morally sound to kill someone, but no one is going to judge you if you kill in self defense. And is all that the hill you want to die on? What good is mercy if you show it to a burglar and he then kills three people immediately? What use is kindness when your own words are used to hurt you? If you could save one boy, but that boy would grow up to build the device that destroyed humanity… Would you?

    @@rachelicey604 I'm soo sorry for what happened to you. We don't know what the siren's would have done if ody decided to spare them they cried and begged for him to spare them, Ody didn't ask them to spare him, he didn't ask them to help, he tricked them and after killed them. If you end a life you don't know what that life could have been the future. I know the world is cruel and there are bad people but in today's world we are to quick to call something evil or a monster or to just kill it. If you go to the saying eye for eye then people just go go blind also what do you do if the REALL monster has more eyes that you (Figurative). People don't know what really monsters are and not "Monsters" just evil people have you met a person that want's to be truly be evil truly be the worst version of themselves, NO you haven't I know believe me, I do know those kind of people and they are not dead just evil and I can tell you if those people exist then the siren's are as harmless as scared dog ( they can only bite again figurative) ) Those people torture and and they laugh and they try to be even worse. So if instead of ody killing the siren's he could told them his story I'm 70% they would even help him because siren's aren't the lepord you mentioned they are some kind of human so they can changed for the better they can just eat fish when they learn that there food they ate for soo long gave them mercy when it could just kill them, They would have remembered the kindness and the mercy of the person(food) that could easily kill them but he(it) didn't and they would be thankful. Now they might be even more dangerous they might be even more evil. There is a saying: Evil attracts evil but kindness and mercy attract love, mercy AND evil. Again I'm sorry that happened to you and if you want we can talk about it (IF YOU WANT). Just remember be better not the same (as the monster's or the bad people).
