"Live at Perivale" was originally shown on Channel 4 television in the UK titled "Suede Music." Filming took place on Stage 1 at Asylum Studios in Perivale, West London* on Friday 16 April 1999, just a few days after the release of the single "Electricity." Other bands who ventured to Perivale were Pulp, who filmed the green-screen dance scenes of their Party Hard music video there in August 1998, and Atomic Kitten, who also used the studio's green screen capabilities for their "If You Come To Me" music video in early October 2003. Suede's gig was an invite only event** and part of their heavy promo schedule for their forthcoming fourth studio album, Head Music. * Asylum Studios was located at 1 Wadsworth Close, Perivale, London, UB6 7JB. It's an area full of industrial units and an ever decreasing amount of Art Deco and modernist factory buildings. The striking Art Deco Hoover Building is a mere fifteen minute walk away from where Asylum was, and is safe from demolition by its Grade II listed status. Elvis Costello wrote a song about it called "Hoover Building." ** The gig blogger, Scruffy Storms, wrote a detailed article on this show. Search online for her blog to view images of the plastic invite to the show and some of the merch available at the time.

Such a cool band. I'm currently reading Brett Anderson 's autobiography, which gives a very accurate portrayal of the 70s/80s, how tough life was if you were poor/working class. A book that should be essential reading for all the moaning young adults of today.

I have just finished it. And look forward to reading it all again. It is a humourous, moving and heartwarming account of how his upbringing, freindships and collaborators informed his aspirations and drove his creativity. It is very well written and you feel an immediate empthy towards Brett with his honest and lucid narration. Success stories always need a stroke of luck or two - and here we can be happy he met Mat so early and found his way to London.

This concert shows a different and brilliant side to Suede. Head Music is very underrated because it has some spectacular highlights including Electricity, Down, Savoir Faire, Can't Get Enough, Everything Will Flow and He's Gone. Head Music could have been even better though if they put songs like Crackhead, Leaving, Heroin and Jubilee on it but still, I think people criticised Head Music and treated the album with no respect but Head Music is not a bad album, it is just different!!!

When it came out, I thought most of Head Music was pretty awful, seeing how I was very much spoiled on the spectacular albums before it. It's only years later that I felt Head Music was way ahead of its time. The album also was made for live performance. I still think their first three records (and their B-sides) are just untouchable, but I have a more healthier opinion of Head Music.

I agree. Same intial feelings, plus the one Suede music started to sound manneristic. It also contains some weak tracks. And lyrics are generally awful and lazy. But Head Music sounds rich and modern, neurotic and strangely charming, and I ended up listening to it maybe more times than the previous (and far better) ones.

I still think it's a very average record, to put it mildly, at least compared to their previous work, but 'Everything will flow' alone is already worth the price of admission.

It's the album where I started really liking the band. It's a banger. Just cos britpop fell off a cliff doesn't stop electricity being one of their best singles. And he's gone is fucking amazing.

The Autumns - The angel pool.
