Sue D. - Family Recovery Speaker - "Let it Begin with Me"
Sue D. is an amazing Al Anon speaker! Some of you might have heard her before, she does an awesome workshop with Keith D. we have posted under our "Full Workshops" tab at our homepage. This tape is her telling her story. VERY powerful and moving share! :)
Al-Anon / Alateen, known as Al-Anon Family Groups, is an international "fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems."They "help families of alcoholics by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"After a while I began to wonder why I was not as happy as I ought to be, since the one thing I had been yearning for all my married life [Bill's sobriety] had come to pass. Then one Sunday, Bill asked me if I was ready to go to the meeting with him. To my own astonishment as well as his, I burst forth with "Damn your old meetings!" and threw a shoe as hard as I could.
This surprising display of temper over nothing pulled me up short and made me start to analyze my own attitudes. ... My life's purpose of sobering up Bill, which had made me feel desperately needed, had vanished. ... I decided to strive for my own spiritual growth. I used the same principles as he did to learn how to change my attitudes. ... We began to learn that ... the partner of the alcoholic also needed to live by a spiritual program." - "Lois's Story" in How Al-Anon Works

Thank you Sue. D., Powerful! Thank you for carrying the message. ❤️
There are few things as helpful as the real talk (and the healing balm of laughter) one hears in this program. Thank you for your transparency.
My past is my greatest asset! Working on that one in regards to Al-Anon. I'm having to learn a whole new way of living (only 3 meeting thus far) in Al-Non just like I did in AA. Not a quick fix - by any means. It is very clear I AM A NEWCOMER in Al-Anon.

Me too. It is so hard
Wow Beverly's tougher than she sounds. It's hard to believe that some of us Ala-nons can be so crazy when we're untreated

Beverly is doing very well. No craziness, she love the sanity she has.
Thanks, great story.
❤
I love this story
I never thought of it that way but one Beverly is talking about her beginning with Keith, an AA speaker, and she said he seemed more interested in the six pack he had, than she was, then her whole life was set up to compete with alcohol I never thought of it that way.
Gracias pude entender muchas cosas de mis patrones de conducta y en verdad que comienzo por mi es lo más difícil, enfocarme en alguien más es lo más fácil .
Thank you 🌞
Hard to hear the laughter in this story because of the violence. One hell of a story teller tho. So happy for the transformation in all 3 family members especially Simone. Worried sick about her through the entire story.
Hey Sue do you read you messages are you still alive I need together you
