Sudbury Eversource Power Line Path, DJI Inspire 1 Pro Drone Footage

The Eversource electric company plans to cut down a several mile long swath of woods that follows the old abandoned railroad tracks that cut through Sudbury and Hudson MA. These wooded tracks cut through many residential neighborhoods, local businesses, and Memorial forest which is one of the last large unabated woodland areas left in Massachusetts. These tracks cut through or are adjacent to numerous protected woodland and wetland habitats, currently providing scenic nature trails for hikers to enjoy. In this video I fly around, adjacent to, and above the old wooded abandoned tracks that Eversouce is planning to clear cut for the installment of very tall and ugly power lines.

+Michael Holzwarth Thanks buddy, you can access the hiking trails and the abandoned tracks from several access points, but I went in through the Hop Brook Marsh conservation land. there is parking and trail access on Dutton Road in Sudbury. Here is a description of the forest with a map: www.sudburyvalleytrustees.org/sites/default/files/MemorialForestBrochure.pdf

Great Videos! How do you get things so smooth without it getting choppy? What are your settings? DO you do anything post?

+Bert Perry Thank you! So to make the video "smooth" I do a couple of things: first I make sure to turn relatively slowly. Turning fast (depending on your frame rate) will make the video look choppy because the frames per second cannot keep up with how fast you turn. Also, I typically film in 1080p 60fps. The 60 fps is great, because higher frame rates make turns look less choppy and more smooth, especially faster turns. I don't really do anything in the post editing to enhance the video, if anything the video is decreased slightly in resolution on KZread Are you using an Inspire 1 pro? the FOV of your lens might be adding to the problem too, for example if you are using the pro version (with the Zenmuse X5 camera), then your FOV will be smaller than if you were using the standard X3 camera. Having a narrower FOV will make turns even more challenging, as it increases the frame rate necessary to avoid choppiness for any given turning speed.

Ahh, makes sense. I am using a Phantom 3 Pro. I think it's a 2.8 lens. I am a SCUBA diver and dive Rockport and Gloucester. Looking forward to shooting some dive sites there on the coast. Did you ever go to Folly Cove? That would be a great place for you to shoot.
