14:19 it’s amazing you’ve noticed how prominent water & water imagery is for Kendall. The showrunners have discussed their intentional use of water in connection to Kendall’s mental state. I love symbolism that’s done well, and this is a creative detail that added beautiful rewatch value to Succession for me.

Oh?? That's really kool! I'm pleased to hear that it was intentional, just continues to show how much effort and thought is put into this series in its entirety. Didn't realize that it's directly tied to his mental state, but that also makes a lot of sense!

I love the catch-22 Ken is in with his dad. Submit to his dad's interest and prove his weakness or try to kill the dad and prove his disloyalty.

I'm glad you called out Logan's game with putting himself up because this is the playbook from episode 1 of this season. On Tom and Shiv's relationship, I think all of the siblings have unhealthy relationships because they grew up not having a great example with Logan treating people like they're disposable. Roman has his thing with Gerri, Kendall is in this codependent relationship + doesn't see his kids at all, Connor literally bought Willa. I honestly think if Willa and Connor weren't portrayed so comedically it's a bit uncomfortable. I guess the cheating is the most familiar to audiences so they feel strongly about it. I personally feel like Logan always intended to put up Kendall once the shareholders said it should be him. He left that part out with the inner circle and made it seem like it was his idea.

It makes sense, especially considering all the remaining resentment Logan still has for Kendall. At this point, Ken's outlived his usefulness and ultimately would fulfill it by being Logan's patsy. My boi nearly became a full Greek Tragedy lol

This show does such a good job of dropping in small little moments to build out the characters, even when they're not the focus. The looks between Roman and Kendall at the table after the announcement, Connor's reaction to Gerri's slip up over the first born son etc let you know where those characters are in a split second without interrupting the flow of the scene at all. In terms of shows to watch next, Mr Robot is a brilliant show to react to.

@@MovieMan101 You would get so much to discuss out of any of those shows, imho. Mad Men and The Terror are both beautifully written and detailed. The White Lotus is probably most like Succession, in that it's about awful rich people. Looking forward to whatever you choose next! :)

My suggestions would be: - Dark (Germen show, best in all dept, 3 seasons, probably the best written show) - Mr Robot (4 seasons, best in all dept, Rami Malek, Christian Slater kill it in this but the whole cast has phenomenal performance, and the writing is layered that you'll love it more on rewatches) Did you notice that Shiv and Logan had already decided that Ken would be the sacrifice? It's heavily implied by the framing choices as s2e9 ends and in this episode she just comes out and says it. Hence she is so relaxed. Logan would have suggested Tom ("senior people tough choices") so during the dinner she sorta said that Tom works (which understandably makes Tom angry) but obviously she wants Ken to be gone because she'd have easier time. So, personally have never believed that she would be okay with Tom being the sacrifice. If you were wondering what Greg had in his hands when Ken announced Logan's deeds, he was holding those Cruise documents! Remember he took some from the bonfire before they could be burnt! Ken knew about it from s1e10 (called Greg "Machiavellian"), he's given Greg a place to live in. Time for the Revolution in Season 3. It is truly wild. I can't wait to share a couple of things to show how sneaky Ken's been.

Adding Dark and Mr Robot for sure! Yeah, now that you mention it they both did seem quite relaxed at all the gatherings. And it makes even more sense considering that when Ken drops the bomb at the very end, Shiv appears to be the most concerned/distressed as she looks back to Logan. Looking forward to the rollercoaster!

I'd really love to see you react to Black Sails which is perhaps a bit odd bc it's a completely different genre (historical drama) but the writing is definitely right up there with succession in terms of quality and the characters are complex in a way that reminds me of Logan and co. I feel like you'd have a lot of fun dissecting them. There's definitely an audience for it here on KZread and it's "only" 4 seasons so it's not a ridiiiiculously huge undertaking

After reading all the suggestions for series that could succeed Succession, I think that: - You reacting to THE WHITE LOTUS would indeed be so fun 😄👍; - DARK is a beautiful gem, but this show is anything but fun. You'll really torture your mind trying to understand why, how, who, when... Magnificent, metaphysical, tortuous... Go for it if you like this kind of content. I would add: - the FARGO series. Did you see this? - BLUE EYE SAMURAI, the only animated series that impressed me as much as Arcane. Yes, I'm late, by a month and 4 episodes but I'm still moving forward!

  • @kvm6

He isn't truly seeking options. In previous episode he'd decided about sacrifice and in this episode Shiv clearly says choose who we discussed (Ken). He then manipulates everyone by saying, he'll be the one that goes to jail and everyone objects because they respect him too much. If he really was looking for options, he could have just pushed Connor under the bus. Connor attended Mo's funeral and was suspiciously vague in his eulogy. The evidence could just be twisted to show he was behind it.

He lives out alone on a farm and is continuously paying a women to be with her. It can surely be painted badly just like Logan did in s1e7 (therapy episode) where he published lies about Ken being drugged out of mind (another time he lies and gets caught by the way).
