Succession: an evening with the writers

Ойын-сауық

The creator and show-runner of Succession, Jesse Armstrong is joined by writers Tony Roche, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble and Georgia Pritchett, in a conversation chaired by Adam Buxton.
Celebrating the publication of the complete scripts, this conversation takes us behind the scenes on writing the Roys, from alternative dialogue and character directions, to some of the most pivotal moments in the twisting story of shifting familial, political and financial alliances.

Very entertaining! Thanks to the writers for sharing. And thanks for the reminder that Matthew Macfadyen deserves another Emmy (as do the writers, and everyone else associated with this astonishingly good show.) PS to the host: the comments on the Succession subreddit are much better all round than the ones on IMDB. :)

Brilliant writing! We need collaborators like this. Fearless, funny, heartbreaking storytelling that is lacking today. Thank you for respecting the audience's intelligence and not constantly telling/explaining to us why things were occurring but SHOWING us. xx

Anyone else really impressed with the person doing the subtitles? Several times, especially during the clips from the show, I was like "What tf did he say?", and somehow the captions person knew it.

I had a think about this exact thing, and what I think he is referring to, is in the score of a lot of the episodes (so not the theme) there are moments where the music is written in 4/4 but with rhythm motifs of 3s over 4. Kinda very common in rock music but in classical music, this does give a disjointed and tense stravinsky-esq quality.

Seriously? The show is a masterpiece in writing, acting and comedy. They picked the absolute best actor for each character. Do you say the same about the show Atlanta? Did you say that about Moonlight? I could go on. Seriously....pick your battles, this is not it.

one of the most pointless shows ever written where every seen is just terribly dialogued and dragged on scenes of just eff this eff that. For some actors Im sure it wasnt hard for them to act such as the main actress who played the same narrative every goddamn episode. Ending was pointless. Best part of watching this show was that I didnt wait week after week for it, took me under one day to watch 4 seasons since most of the plot you can just fast forward as it was mostly pointless 90% of the episodes

The ending was so bad, the entire 4th season was basically a soap opera. Unfocused plot with no character progression or clear goals, they had no arcs and the plot was totally random. The writers totally failed this show, the first 2 seasons displayed great character work and a clear throughline and motivation for the plot and characters to follow. But what was the point of any of it? Really a big fat waste. The ending was Game of Thrones level of disappointment.

Hey I remember your comment on a Succession reaction video, small world. Just curious about why you have conveniently left out your main point from that comment, where you said that the show suddenly gets too "political" and "agenda laden", and that the writers are "riddled with Trump derangement syndrome", right at the episode where Mencken was introduced. I'm wondering if those supposed "political agendas" have in any way clouded your opinion on the show a wee bit?
